After the initial excitment of the daemon codex's release, do you think we'll be seeing lots of daemon armys for years to come? (At RTT, GT's ect.) or will they become as common as the dark eldar?

The daemon codex/army book combo has the advantage of allowing game crossover without needing to buy a whole second army, which is what drew me into Fantasy in the first place (I had a daemonette-heavy Emperor's Children army in early 3rd ed days).
It'll be interesting to see how competitive the rules allow Daemons to be. Some of the models are very nice, and (I think) there are far more people who are interested in the whole "daemons from the warp" concept than "naughty, pointy space elves".

So will the list allow for crossover? Or are Demons/Chaos
Marines going the way of Imperial Guard/Space Marines?

Crossover will be allowed? I thought that was the whole reason for square vs. round bases.
If so, I think it'll be a shot in the arm for WFB, not that it needs it. It'll just generate more interest.

A lot is just going to depend how beardy they are. From some of the statlines I've seen, the codex has the potential to be quite powerful. But the army's really going to live or die with the summoning rules and mechanics, and that'll take some playtesting.
Regarding crossover, I'm gonna bet that a decently competitive WFB Daemon army will be fairly crappy in 40K, and vice versa.

Personally, I can see it becoming my Genestealer or chaos cult stand in rules, but I'll have to wait for the rules.
Demons themselves have no interest to me, no personality, nothing but Bloodtooth Killsalot and Slayrend the Archcannibal.
Even less interesting than elfs who are evil and live in SPAAAAAACE.

Yeah, you need square bases to play WHFB, to rank up your models. However, I see no reason to bother with round bases in 40K.

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They are 2 very different armies and have nothing to do with each other! Choas spase marienz and choas deamonz fight all the time! That's because choas spase marienz are like spase marienz (hurr!) with horns and spikes but are renegade, while choas deamonz are like choas spase marien lesser deamonz with horns and spikes but are not renegade because they were choas from the very beginning!!!!! It is very complicated but it is explained in the choas deamonz codex!!!!!!

Bingo. 40k requires that your models be based on bases no smaller than those they come with. 25mm square bases are larger than 25mm round bases, so it's all good.
Also, there's always the Gale Force 9 solution.

I have a Tide of Spawn for my Morghur list or Apoc games, they are on round bases but when I play fantasy I just stand the round based spawn on square bases.
|
All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).

well, I'll be giving Gale Force 9 money as I'll probably use Daemons to dabble in fantasy. I've wanted to play fantasy since I saw the Storm of Chaos all daemon list, even have a few things, but I will be a moron and spend way too much money on the spearhead.

Nah there won't be any legal crossover between the two outside of Apocalypse.

Personally I think the idea of a whole daemonic army in 40K is just stupid. I think the fact that they can't be mixed with Codex: Loyalists w/Spikes is even worse.

I am not holding out much hope for the Daemon army to be competitive. I don't see where the firepower will come from. Sure, if the army gets into h2h, it will be a monster but what if it faces a mobile army?

From what I have seen from the rumors and people who have read the books, Daemons will be a top tier army in the fall Tournament season. Both in Fantasy and 40k. Also Cross over is the entire point that GW is aiming for with the dual release of fantasy and 40k.

Much more interested in WHFB demons than W40K demons, but I'll likely splurge on a 'bloodletter' conversion and then take my pre-existing round-based khorne demons on the warpath again. And by warpath I mostly mean firing range for the enemy :S

However, its the first V5 codex-geared towards all that fast moving infantry gaining objectives skimmer no longer unkillable new rules. Having said that it could indeed come out to be less effective. Opening the way for Codex Legions which can use both...

You could just magnetize your bases and put a piece of sheet metal on your movement tray. Way cheaper than $10 a movement tray.
I would just use square bases for both games

That's what I'm doing. I play nothing but 40k and have most of my demons on square bases already since I tried a similar cross over before. The old demon list for fantasy sucked though.

From the looks of things it looks like gw wants everyone to make mixed daemon lists.initially I wanted to run a pure slannesh list, but it looks very one trick and kinda expensive to do.As we come closer to the codex release. I'm looking more in the direction of making a tzneech/slannesh blender to put more variety into the army.Plus I already own tzneech stuff so I'll save some $$$.

Which works great for me since I went with chaos marine lists for all four gods in 40k. Two squads of 40k demons make one regiment of fantasy. I just hope I'll be able to use all 30 of my nurgling bases this time since I could only use around five of them in the last demon list. I love those little buggers.

The new models are horrid.
The new rules aren't exactly up to par, but alot of people will get all excited over a new 40k army.
Even if it is one destined for the LATD heap in 5 years time.
