It's no secret that the warriors of the firecaste don't know the first thing about clost combat, but every once in a great while, and against all odds the dice land in favor of the Tau. What great moments in Tau close combat have you witnessed?

While not quite a purely HtH moment, this one was rather memorable.

A team of two broadsides with 2 attached shield drones gets charged by a white scars commander on bike with artificer armour and a power weapon.

First round of combat, the commander manages to inflict two wounds, down goes a shield drone. The broadsides stick around.

Second round, the commander whiffs his attacks, the broadsides swing back and manage to inflict a wound. (1 of three). The commander fails his leadership check and falls back... right over the wreckage of a hammerhead tank, he makes his dangerous terrain check and rolls a 1, he re-rolls it and gets another one. (2 of three). Next turn, the broadsides line up and nail him in the back with their railguns, 2 hits, 1 wound. (3 of three).

End result: One dead commander.

Best moment I think I've ever had in HtH with my Tau was when a squad of my Firewarriors was charged by Kharn and five of his Berzerkers. He rolled all 1's and killed every single one of his own Berzerkers, and the Firewarriors attacked him, wounded him, and he failed 7 saves. The entire store stopped to watch the event unfold. After Kharn and company died, we commended the guy, and he got a free squad of Berzerkers for it. Good laughs were had by all.

Not yet ready for one, but since they will probly battle a large score of orks, odds on, there may just be one (how funny it will be to show that Tau can do something in combat....even against orks)

"So when do we get our tank?"
We've already got it, it has been with us the whole time"
"No we don't, its just 10 of us, and a Washing Machine"
"That is the tank...."
"There's no way im riding in that, it sucks a-"

I watched my buddy fight necrons with his tau. Funnily enough, one squad of 12 firewarriors managed to hold off against 4 wraiths for two turns... not just hold off, but absolutely trounce, as it turned out. He lost 2 firewarriors the first turn, and managed to kill 3 wraiths. The wraiths all got back up and in the second round of combat, my buddy killed all four without suffering a casualty. We were all dumbfounded, and gave mathhammer a rest for the night.

Cheers

I had some stealthsuits jumped by a lictor in my game. With casualties, they managed to beat it down.

We pictured the survivors shaking while sitting down and trying to light up a cigarette.

A friend of mine took down my deathwing terminator squad (3 strong at the time) with a squad of tau. Took 3 turns though, but they did it.

Kharn = The Man

I can't remember my chaos lads flopping against Tau in combat, amazingly. My deathscreamer lord and lesser demonettes are actually quite adept at doing very bad things to the little fish faces.

You should post some of your FW's exploits Cham, you've got some good ones IIRC

Best two examples happened in the same game.

First part of the game saw two Drones detach from a Devilfish and charge a Seer Council. The Seer Council wiffed their attacks, and then lost one of their Warlocks.

They failed their Ld check, and then ran off the table, dropping the Webway Gate at the table's edge.

Later on during the same game, after taking two wounds from Stealth Suit fire, the Avatar charged a squad of 8 Fire Warriors. Again, the Eldar player wiffed the attacks, and the mighty Avatar of Khaine, the earthly embodiment of the Bloody Handed God Kaela Mensha Kaine, was taken down by some Pulse Rifle butts.

Suffice to say it, the USF lost that game.

Similar theme as what's been said. Full squad of Dark Eldar Witches charge a Tau Commander with two Shield Drones. All the Witches botch their attacks, and with a single wound from one of the Shield Drones, the Witches lose combat, break, and get run down by the jet pack equipped Commander. I still mock him for it to this day.

I once had a Shas'el charge a squad of Sisters of Battle, he killed one, and ran them down. Same turn a pair of Crisis suits beat down a cannoness. I also once saw a pair of Sheild Drones Take down a Hive Tyrant, and not just get the final would on him they took all 4.

As requested by Salvage, here is some of my favorite CC Tau experiences. (Original tau codex) Lictor jumps out of terrain and assults a stealth team of six guys. One suit dies. The return attacks from the suits, kill the Lictor. (Current Tau Codex) Broadsides are charged by a Callidus Assasin. Assasin fails to hit with half the attacks. Fails to wound with the other half of attacks. The assassin then proceeds to fail 3 saves from return attacks. 3rd great moment involves a full squad of seraphim charging a full squad of fire warriors. The combat lasted 3 turns until the game of over at turn six, ending with 3 firewarriors tied up with 3 Seraphim in cc.

The Lictor thing is really not that amazing as they tend to die from bad breath from a gaurdsmen. Thier save is just horrible and usually just die to numbers any ways. Great stories so far tho'.

i've seen a necron destroyer lord die in HTH with one gun drone after no less than 4 rounds of combat.

in a different game i also saw 12 fire warriors be charged by two lictors and kill both...one after the other, with no casualties

One of my first games against the Tau (old Codex). I had an Oblit get charged by 8 Gun Drones.

I thought 'This'll be easy!'. I then found out the Drones were I4. My Oblit was stuck there for the rest of the game fighting off these damned Drones. At one point he sent 6 Human Auxilia to help out.

I made up for it in the next game. Killed 20 Kroot with some Berzerkers before the Kroot even got to swing! HA!

I think the crowning CC achievement of my tau was when a squad of 12 fire warriors took out an Ork warboss and maybe 5 boys, against the old Ork codex. I'm not sure how it happened but I know I have a picture of the two remaining FW and the prone warboss to prove it.

I was also proud when I desperately sent my Shas'o on a suicide mission to keep Kharn away from my farsight squad. He fought Kharn straight up for a couple of rounds until I finally was able to charge two more suits at Kharn and take him down with no casualties.

My best moment with Tau in melee was this last weekend -
Having my Zoanthrope (!?) charge a unit of Tau, actually kill one to drop the unit below half on the last player turn - losing the held objective and thus the game.

My greatest moment was when a simple drone managed to hold off for 3 assualt rounds against a Eldar Avatar, whilst my kroot came in to give assistance. Each round he failed to wound the drone and it just stood there hovering in front of him taunting.

While i was working at my FLGS i was helping a new guy use his space marines against a farily new tau player. long story short 10 assault marines charged 12 fire warriors killed one then lost 5 marines, failed his LD, and were caught as they turned to run. I felt bad cause i told the kid to charge and he should win the fight but the dice gods were not with us then.

This is silly! Buttons are not how one escapes dungeons! I would smash the button and rain beatings liberally down on the wizard for playing such a trick!

I had one of those moments with a tau army once. I had a jump chappy and a five jump marines chew through a kroot squad a crisis suit and two firewarrior squads. The last fire warrior squad was down to one single guy and he managed to kill the chappy.

Scenario 1:
10 stormtroopers charge 2 broadsides with a pair of shield drones. Drones will 2 guardsmen. Storm troopers attack, but the 2+ save results in no wounds. Broadsides cause 4 wounds, guardsmen flee into FCW squad and are wiped out

Scenario 2:
3 berserkers with powerfist AC charge gun drone squad. 4 drones and 3 berserkers die turn 1. Turn 2 my last drone gets a wound on the AC who fails his save meaning I wiped out the entire army while having a single drone and a pair of crisis suits left.

Scenario 2 is classic, but scenario 1 is uh, kind of expected. I don't think anyone would have bet on PW/PF-less IG beating Broadsides in CC in the first place.

Ya man, running into FCW may be rare but otherwise doing what that guy did is as stupid as running a bunch of kroot into CC with terminators.
