Personally, I don't use a base, per se, on my Warhound. My Eldar Titans have no bases whatsoever. They are far more sturdily constructed, being made of resin, rather than cardstock. On my Warhound, I cut two pieces of masonite to fit his feet. This was not so much for a base, but for rigidity for his foot, toes, etc.
I don't want bases on my titans because I want them to be able to put a foot down in the middle of a standard terrain piece, should the need arise. If he has a solid base across his feet, there's no way he's going into a terrain piece.

Actually, that is not correct, per
Apoc rulebook.
Super-Heavy Vehicles (
pg. 92), the Shooting Phase section says,
"Because super-heavy vehicles greatly vary in size, for the purposes of establishing line of site from a super-heavy vehicle, always use real line of sight, working this out from the barrel of the weapon they are firing. The rules for area terrain apply as normal.
In the same way,
always use real line of sight when enemy units are targeting super-heavy vehicles. Again, the rules for area terrain apply as normal."
Titans (in this case, Skavenfreak's Warhound) are not "walkers." They are
super-heavy walkers. They are classed as a type of super-heavy vehicle, thus they follow the super-heavy vehicle
los rules.
