Shadowphrakt wrote:I was at Conflict Scotland today, and was talking to Jervis Johnson and Jes Goodwin. They had with them the new prototype Eldar jetbike (which is awesome!) and a folder of Jes' sketches and another folder.

In this folder was the pages from a new expansion for 40k, "PLanetry Empires".
Basically, its mighty Empires, but for 40k. With models for Hives, cities, battlefields, new tiles to fit in with 40k etc.

Also confirmed that Dark Eldar are slated for sometime soon. Early 2009 probable, but they will have to do loads to the range.

Planetry Empires sounds interesting, and I have pics of the new prototype jetbike from different angles.

Did I mention Planetry Empires?

Also confirmed that no plastic Thunderhawk, or great coat guard are slated. At all.

heid wrote:I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I spoketo Jes about the new Eldar jetbike - there are currently no plans to schedule his prototype for production, and he said that even if they did give it the green light tomorrow, it would be 1-2 years before it was in the shops due to lead times etc.

CMDante wrote:I was also at this event and spoke with Jes at length about space marines, projects and issues of scale. He said that while space marines are undoubtably GW's best selling range they are coming to the point where there isn't alot new that can be done with them except making all armour mk's into plastics. He also told me that pre-heresy mini's will be highly unlikely. A plastic drop pod was also mentioned, apparently due some time soon since the sculpt has been ready for a long time.

While discussing sculpting and scale creep he told me that bigger marines will never be made, claiming that marines are tall enough already if you remove they're hunched postures and straighten them up a little. He also mentioned that he is frequently upset with some of GW's sculpters lack of scale measurment when creating some mini's, stating that many are often scrapped because they are made way to big. I believe he used the line "I wish some of them would learn to use a ******* ruler once in a while!". The new eldar jetbike is also apparently only a possible proto-type with a release, especially any time soon being unlikely (especially since it apparently takes 2 years from sculpt to plastic casting in development).

Cheers,

Dante

mightygnoblar wrote:another confirmation from jervis is that we can expect a whole load of new FAQs to be out in july and that they should now always be on the update as Alessio Catavore has been given a perminant job working on them

Of course we have to have new FAQs in July to go with 5th edition. As for keeping them updated...

Lantern wrote:My brother was chatting to Jes and asked him abotu the jetbike there. Jes explained that when they do a new book, they are only allowed to do a certain amount or sprues in any release. At the time of the Eldar codex, he was given the choice, either to release the new jetbikes, or to release the new wraithlord. Obviously, he went with the wraithlord, but on further questioning, he said that even id GW told him TODAY to get the jetbike ready for launch, it would be about 2 years before that actually would happen (ie from start to finish, the jetbike would not be released for 2 years...and basically, its not officially started - even if we do have pics of it)

That's all for now. Enjoy and let the discussions begin

Mmm... planetary Empires. That's just what I want. Almost caved and bought Might Empires last week, but decided to wait. Glad I did.

All bad news then. No trenchcoat guard, Dork Elfs in Space coming back although no one likes them, no new jetbike, no trenchcoat guard, a new game that will die in 6 months and no trenchcoat guard.

At least they seem to vaguely understand the Spase Marinez well is running dry.

I think there are plenty of folks who like the Dark Eldar rules, but very few actually like the models for the army.

Planetary Empires sounds like campaign rules which is something I'd be happy to see.

Bummer about the Eldar jetbike. Maybe I should start looking for another Windrider box set that came out with Apocalypse.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

Interesting part about the Jetbike...I'm also glad they did the Wraithlord. Superb kit and the bikes are plastic and convertable to make them look new.

The Dark elves will make a Wood Elf comeback, I tell you! With sexy new models revisted content it's gonna be a cool alternative to the eldar.

But what's up with warp spiders?

Pity that it's the DE rules are what's most likely to change if they ever get redone.

Planetary Empires would be great!

It's amazing how GW releases the plastic Wraithlord, which I have NO use for, instead of the plastic Jetbike, of which I would buy plenty!

Planetary Empires sounds nice. I've been trying to clodge together a campaign system for my 40K group. If this comes out soon enough it will save me the bother.

Although the jetbike rumor was repeated several times (and Jes is one of the few GW folks from whom I would believe every word), I wonder whether they simply feel the need to sell off their current bike stock while getting the new one set up for plastic production. Of well- the Windrider Host does indeed look like a decent buy now.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!
