Since it seems that the run rule will be used for certain in 5th edition i'm going to be dropping some rhinos in lue of more stuff. for 2 of them I'm planning on taking a Greater Daemon, just because. I don't like the models out now, so I'm looking for some better ones. lemme know what you guys think bout these models as alternatives

a model of lucifer himself (i have one already in mind and it kick arse)

my favorites are the first two, and i like the first one best because it fits with the lizardmen daemons my friend is making for an apocalypse game we're gonna play in the not too distant future. what do you guys think?

No dude don't do it! You won't be able to play in GW tournies!

Seriously though, this is my new favourite mini. Also, it's suitable for all four powers, with the right scheme (+ GS for Nurgle).

i've been playing word bearers for 10 years now (and now have all minis from the previous codex and on), so it's undivided/word bearers. however as I said my friend is using some lizardmen for lesser daemons, and i wanted to have something that was neutral and fit with his daemons for our apocalypse game. also i play lizardmen and just ove the model to fit with them more.

also Jazz is for Losers i couldn't see the pic you posted for some reason, what model are you talking bout?

That's something I like about the new Codex: Chaos Space Marines - the absence of Greater and Lesser Daemons gives lots more leeway to creative modeling. Much more "multiple realizability".

That Beloved of Sobek would look great backed up by some Sebeki. Maybe some Chaos Space Marines crossed with 4th edition Lizardmen to play up the Possessed angle? Possessed are good as a summoning point for Daemons.

yea for my list for the apocalypse game i'm adding one unit of each of the cult marines in the sacred number, some possesed, a greater daemon, and some daemons just to fill in pts with models i already have (using lizradmen and such). i rather not use daemons but to get the points it loks like i'll have to.

so anyway the consensus so far is that the beloved of sobek would be the best? because that was by far my favorite of all of em'

Yes Sir!! The model was great itself.. It would go along with the Lizard Men theme for the army. If you really wanted to add some jazz to him.. since he is a giant beast, add some chains to him to make him look bound to chaos...

I have both of these reaper figs and recommend them both

http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/pit%20fiend

The Court of Abyss has some great generic nasties and the pit fiend is pure win, one of my favorite figures ever.

Don't forget to check out http://www.heresyminiatures.com/
Their Netherlord set the standard for huge nasty demons.

yea i've already looked at heresy and the two minis you mentioned were on my list of possibilities from reaper minis, but i'm leaning towards something more animal (crocodile, bull, etc.) and without wings as the greater daemons cannot fly anymore. thanks for al the input guys i just wanted to see what others would say before i went and bought the darn thing and then got someone play against me say that they don't see how it could be a 'counts as' daemon prince

At a tournament my club ran last month, we had one player field a 'Jean-eric, my greater daemon', cobbled together from a krootox, some tyranid parts, some CoD parts and some GS, modelled on a 40mm base. It was quite cool, peeking out from behind the rubble bits.

His logic, there weren't any 'proper' greater daemons for CSM in 40k, just 'generic' ones, so he made his own "generic" GD model.

For big spiky LoD minis, the reaper Netherlord is mighty fine. GW run ONE whole event here per year (if lucky - they aren't this year), and all of ours are "indy" tournaments. GW may supply prize sponsorship, but they don't enforce any limits on modelling - if they did, the organisers would go to one of the other two games distributors for their stuff.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

The last two might be good for a tzeentch DP but otherwise... not impressed at all.

What about.....

Now that looks more like a deamon prince...

I am thinking Rackham's Fomor Fiends would make nice daemons. I have a few I am using for ogres in my super counts as chaos mortals army, and I am quite happy with the look. For a generic greater daemon of Khorne I think one would be hard pressed to do better for the price.
http://www.thewarstore.com/product36553.html

The hound of whatever would make a really scary Khorne or Nurgle daemon too I think.
http://www.thewarstore.com/product36551.html

Of course they don't have much of an animal look, but I think they would make great daemons for a good price.

If you want a lucifer type can't got wrong with this guy:

http://www.thewarstore.com/product9251.html

I've got him, he's about 54mm tall.

Reaper also has a model that's a clear homage/tribute/rip-off of D&D Demogorgon. Old school geeks will get the reference.

And take a look at Westwind's Lucifer Wars line, some fantastic stuff in there.

I am partial to the Ultraforge minis. They're just awesome.

But I like the Gator Lord. Is the mini really the right size for a Greater Daemon though? I thought he was only 30mm tall?

Another direction you could go is mod up some 54 mm miniatures, like Inquisitor figs or Scibor's 54mm range.

Just waiting on that Ultraforge Giant-Bird-with-a-Staff figure.

the gator is too big for the 40mm base he comes with. he basically is as big as an ogre tyrant (arms out and all. so he's pretty big. the greater daemons go on 50mm round bases right? because then he might fit ok.

the lucifer model from westwind (link in last post from me) would be the other real option i am leaning towards just because it's a sweet model, and although he's not big or anything he could easily be sitting on a base covered in fire

That netherlord looks like something the Word Bearers would summon.. gives off something a warp demon with a bad attitude....

You could give him a 8-pointed star on his chest and he could be a greater for undivided..

Sometimes you just have to let em' go...

definitely would work like that. i think though i'm gonna go with the lucifer model and the gator model as an alternative just because i like the look of those two much better.

what size base do greater daemons have to go on? 40mm or 60mm?
