Work on the Dakka Lost and the Damned army list ground to a halt last month, but an unresolved issue has been preying upon my mind. Finally, today, the solution presented itself. A poll!

The issue is this: Are Gibbering Hordes basically Nurglings, or are they a mess of various creatures (spawn, mutants, minor daemons, etc.)? Vague theories were tossed back and forth, but these are no substitute for data from a statistically meaningless sample of Dakka members!

I've never used them - my Troops were always filled with Mutants and Traitors.

I don't think they're just Nurglings though.

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

I personally would not use Nurglings, I would use a variety of mutant thingers.

But I do not think I would include them, unless I felt modellng them would be fun.

Yes, use nurgling rules but they can be modelled as desired. The original list noted them as using nurgling rules so there should be no issue.

The issue is this: If most people just use nurgling models, we will probably just fold Gibbering Hordes into Lesser Daemons. If most people use other models, we will probably retain Gibbering Hordes as a seperate unit type.

I've always imagined gibbering hordes as groups of small chaos tainted creatures; distinct from demons in that they are not pure manifestations of the warp. Things like rats, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, and maybe platypi; that last one being a personal favorite.

Getting my broom incase there is shenanigans.

I never used gibbering hordes, but if I did I would use a base of Warmaster Screamers and Horrors.

I would retain them as a separate nurgling type. Thats how they were done in the original list. They have a separate function, both in game play and in theme/fluff.

I'd also support the use of the old squig mobs (can't remember the exact name right now).

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1

Yes, back when Squigs were Tyranid constructs based on Ork DNA. They would make good Gibbering Hordes.

They would indeed. I tried to order one or two of them before the bitz service died-off, but they failed to arrive.

All right. With Gorgon, surely the great LatD fan on the internet, having weighed-in, I think we can bring this data collection to a close. There seems to be a clear majority who think that Gibbering Hordes are something other than mere Nurglings. Thank you, everyone, for you input. I will work with the other interested parties to finish-off the army list and have it ready for playtesting within the week.
