Games Day 2008
Daemon Moon Madness
Combat Patrol Tournament

“Get a grip soldier! Our orders are to take that hellspawn of a rock and claim it in the name of the Emperor. And, by Terra, were gonna do it!”

When: There are two tournaments, 9:00 - 1:00 and 1:30 – 5:30. You can sign up for either tournament. If room is available, you might be able to sign up for both. There will be different scenarios in each tournament.

What to bring: Bring one codex legal force with the following restrictions: (Note the usual force organization rules have been altered greatly to allow for a whole new Combat Patrol experience.)

-You may have no more than 500 points.

-No 2+ armor saves.

-You may include selections with more than two wounds at the normal point cost, however, change the number of wounds in their profile to two. (Scarab swarms created by a tomb spider would also have two wounds.)

-You may include ordnance.

-You may have no more than two models with an armor value

-You can have 0-1 HQ

-You must take one compulsory troop choice.

-You are free from taking mandatory selections and selection restrictions from your codex. For example, the Space Wolves do not have to take an HQ and you may take a conscript platoon without first taking an infantry platoon.

-You may not take a duplicate choice from the elites, fast attack, or heavy support sections.

How much Free with a Games Day admission ticket

Phoebus, haven't you heard? 40K is not for tournaments! 40K is for casual, fun games only!

Sorry, I couldn't resist. I hope you have a great event.

He's got a mind like a steel trap. By which I mean it can only hold one idea at a time;
it latches on to the first idea to come along, good or bad; and it takes strenuous effort with a crowbar to make it let go.

Its the best of both world's, actually. It is a FUN tournament. If you take it too seriously, then, and only then would you be disappointed.

And... Thanks!

This sounds like a call to produce the most borken cheese lists that can be made under those restrictions. Dakka-ites, on your marks!

Allow me to start:

Imperial Guard vehicular gunline:

Demolisher with 3 HBs, EA and smoke
LRBT with 3HBs, EA and smoke
10 conscripts with a flamer
CHQ with JO, and 1 fire support squad with 3 HBs (or ACs if points allow)

Possibly add a standard to the CHQ if points allow (don't have my codex on me).

That's 27 HB shots downrange each turn, with ordnance as an option against power armour and/or vehicles.

I'm sure that won't be hard to outdo though...anyone?

Last year nobody brought the old broken lists (speeder spam / warwalkers).

This year you can't even make those lists. I'm sure I have opened it up for you 'creative' types, but you have to beat the scenarios as well as your opponents. So, bring it and see what happens Besides, I think one landraider puts and end to that

Also, the min size for conscripts is 20. You are still restricted by min and max squad sizes.

SoCal, USA!

Strangeloper, your list isn't bad, but I'd do this:

JO w/ ML
AT team w/ 3 MLs
5 Grenadiers
Russ w/ HB
Demolisher w/ HB

Of course, the big question is whether it'd be played under 40k5 rules, so that only Troops are scoring...

This doesn't make sense. You just ignore the armor on all but two of your models? Do you designate before the tournament which two models are actually wearing their armor, and which ones forgot their armor in the barracks?

If this is true, then there’s a huge incentive to use horde armies or light infantry. Space Marines and other heavily armored troops will be paying high points costs for armor that they conveniently forgot before deployment. But Orks, Kroot, and other troops won’t be penalized because their point’s cost reflects the fact that they have virtually no armor.

On a side note, what about the Dark Eldar Archon? I think he has a 5+ armor save. But his 2+ invulnerable save is not an armor save. That could be nasty.

By models with an armor value, they mean vehicles.

For Baltimore, mid-June, it will be 4th edition. When I pass this off to someone else for Chicago, he'll have to decide. Although, I believe they have made the decision to make the Chicago RT 4th edition, but its all 5th after that.

However... all of the missions are objective based even if they do have victory points built in. In some scenarios a rhino could claim an objective, in others a Leman Russ can not.

Just so you know, this could be interpreted as the Dark Eldar 2+ Invulnerable save is legal...
