Story Line ~
The sun was setting and the soldiers of this backwater were preparing for the changing of the guard. Normally, this is a quite post along the foothills of the mountains where the Empire’s finest soldiers go to relax and if to long rusty. This is what the Night Goblin Big Boss was hoping for. Enlisting the help of a Stone Troll with the reward of squishy man flesh he thought his fellow Night Goblins would wade in behind the troll scoop up the live stock and cause some well deserved mayhem.
Exiting from their cave lair in the west using the setting sun to blind the Empire Gunners on the watch tower the Raiding party sneaked as best they could with a grumpy troll in tow to the south. The hills and trees lining the path to the south to the sleepy outpost protected the raiding party till the moody Stone Troll already inpatient roared with anger, snatching up the nearest helpless Goblin as a snack (the last unpainted Night Goblin). Between the roar and the high pitch, short lived death squeak echoed out Madeye sighed knowing his sneaky plan was undone by the a stupid troll which is now sporting a self satisfied grin over his snack.
As the off going Hand Gunners were walking along the wall, the swordsmen were heading back to the armory the roar reverberated off the walls getting everyone’s attention. Normally the guards would ignore the noise since the beast of the frontier is large and noisy but normally stay away from the post but the squeak that followed was a noise all men of the area know, Night Goblins!

Stone Troll

Empire Deployment ~
Captain Heidenreich, reacting quickly to the Goblin war cry, rallied his soldiers deploying three swordsmen to cover the path from the woods entering the outpost from the east. The fresh guards turned around on the watchtowers to face toward the war cry from the south. The off going Hand Gunners startled at first, but hearing their Captain’s reassuring commands deployed behind the fence giving them some cover from the threat to the south. Seven remaining swordsmen formed a hasty battle line with the last swordsman still buttoning up his breeches from a long needed relief running as fast as he could to the battle line. Just clearing the gate of the main garrison building the swordsman was running quickly as the Night Goblins burst forth from the wood line.

Night Goblin Deployment ~
Madeye knowing the gig was up put out his war cry followed by his raiding party gave them the needed momentum to charge out of the woods and on to the posts parade green startling the live stock milling freely about. Night Goblins burst forth in a weak battle line behind Madeye and the Stone Troll.

Turn 1
Night Goblins ~
Bursting from the woods squeaking at the top of their lungs and the Stone Troll lumbering forward knocking trees out of the way gave the Goblins the upper hand. Moving first before the Garrison could react the greenskins run quickly forward. The clucking of a pair of chickens made Madeye hungry and took a quick potshot at them with the barely contained magic of Gaze of Gork. The magic flailed out striking them but the chickens clucked in bewilderment at the sudden smell of singed feathers but plodded on across the parade field after a worm.

Empire ~
The sight of a lumbering Stone Troll the live stock fled in terror. A pair of chickens ran toward the safety of the woods. Normally the dim witted sheep made a smart move a hightailed it off to the woods on the heels of the chickens. But a cow followed one of the stupid sheep toward the Goblins.
Captain Heidenreich and his swordsmen surge forward to deny the goblins purchase in the parade field. Three of battle line break off forming a group protecting their fellow’s flanks. The trio head to the west along the fence line to protect the watchtower from the assault of the Goblins. Heidenreich stopped his charge forward long enough to draw his prized pistol and snap off a quick shot. A quick flash, puff of smoke sent a lead ball spinning threw air toward Madeye. Madeye's pet squig jumping up thinking the miniball was a juicy bug ate the round whole finishing its snack with a burp.
Taking their Captain’s queue, the Hand Gunners take aim at the charging Night Goblins. The tired sentries behind the fence fired but their aim was off and kicked up dirt and rock in front of the Goblins. However, the plunging fires of the fresh gunners find purchase send the back of an unlucky Goblin. The lead balls thudding into flesh sending mists of blood and brains over his friends. First blood is given by the Empire!

Turn 2
Night Goblins ~
All of the Night Goblins sprint forward as fast as their little legs let them move. Four broke off to the west toward the tower. The blood still swirling around the air from the slain Goblin made the Stone Troll ecstatic. His dimwitted brain laid eyes on the Captain Heidenreich since he was the shiniest. A gleeful growl the Troll plodded forward to Captain Heidenreich. The slow troll aided by his force of momentum swung wildly. But such a slow-witted creature did not fool the Captain with its untrained assault. He deftly ducked and weaved all the incoming attacks and parried his weapon into the side of the Troll. The weapon found purchase, steel scraping across bone and bursting organs. Pull his sword from the wound and was stunned as the wound closed up before his eyes.
Madeye charged right along side the Troll slamming into a swordsman defending Heidenreich’s left. During his charge Madeye uttered another missile from Gork but a poor dandelion was fried for his effort. His attempt at magic threw off his skill with a weapon but his pet squig was still hungry. The swordsman only has a second of bewilderment at the sight of a squig using its owner’s head as a springboard to jump at him. With a gulp the swordsman fell headless to the ground spraying blood everywhere.

Empire ~
The bloody death of their comrade does not faze the garrison so the swords move forward. Two of Heidenreich’s hastily cobbled together bodyguard charge the troll in support of their Captain. All across the parade field the swords charged whom they could. Two of the garrison reached Ironarm and clash with the Night Goblin Boss. The sword that was running from the outhouse ran into the western tower to protect the gunners on the roof top. As the clang of metal against metal, shots reported from the watchtowers and the fence. The blood spraying from their friend drew their attention. As the rounds streaked toward Madeye, his attention drawn to the gore caused by his pet he never noticed the gulping sound made by the squig as it at all the incoming lead like flies.
Knowing that speed is the Stone Troll’s weakness Heidenreich and his supporting troops attacked with such swiftness that the Troll’s ability to heal could not cope falling flat onto its face stunned.
Ironarm and his attackers turned into a swirling melee of steel and cursing. Even though the trained swordsmen tear into the armor made up of dirty rags belonging to Ironarm no one could find flesh. But the new holes in his new rags stolen of the body of a rival he shanked last night sent him into a rage killing both of his opponents. All along the ragged battle line the Swordsmen knew that failure was not an option here in the wilderness. The inspiration of their comrades felling the troll their trained and honed swords decapitated two greenskins and knocked out one for the cost of one of their own brethren stunned.

Turn 3
Night Goblin ~
The battle is in full swing and the Goblins are itching for a fight. All of the goblins run toward the swords, buildings and chickens. On the east side of the outpost, a lone Night Goblin ran at the empty barracks giggling gleefully with a burning torch. With a grunt and heave the torch flies through the air, bounces off the window frame back at the Goblin.

To the west side of the outpost, three Goblins all running with torches succeed in setting the tower alight.

Dancing with joy the soldiers in the tower start to look for a way out. The dust up between the engaged combatants was a swinging mass of traded blows with the Ironarm quickly and cowardly dispatching a downed swords with a quick knife stroke and a Goblin stabbing wildly with his spear, eyes closed only to his shock that the sword went limp. Pulling back the sword fell to the parade field grass, color draining from his skin as the blood gushed from the gapping chest wound.
Blood, gasps and screams over echoing metal on metal clangs a hungry Night Goblin jumped over a fence to attack a pair of chickens on the field, however all his attempts to choke those chickens failed as they out witted him at every turn.

Empire ~
Smoke pouring out of the windows of the western watchtower chased out the Hand Gunners. Flames licking at their heals as they ran quick into the parade field.

The swordsman that had just entered the tower was cut off from the same exit by flames shooting up threw the floor boards. Not wanting to die a slow death by fire he looked over the edge of the tower at the ground below.

Even though the same Goblins that lit the tower a flame were below the death would be quicker than burning to death. So climbing to the top of the parapet he closed his eyes and stepped off.

For the half of a second of free fall he thought that his life was forfeit but with a soft thud he got up amazed to be alive. Looking to down to see that he had landed in midst the Night Goblins and one had broke his suicide plunge and knocking him silly.

As the tower burned the Hand Gunners in the north tower aimed at a cowardly Goblin hiding behind a wall even though his short stature did not make this difficult. Even though the sturdy wall was there the rounds found the mark sending the Goblin back to his infernal deity. Taking cue from their comrades on the tower the gunners behind the wall took aim at another Goblin. With a thunderous volley the pernicious lead found its mark but the hardy little Goblin fell on his face stunned from the fluid shock of the hits.
The melees on the parade field continued as shields parried spears and swords found their mark. Quick, merciful, trained thrusts and the swords cut down three of the Goblin horde as they lay on the ground. The gurgle of blood drowned out their death screams. But for revenge a Night Goblin assaulted with all its might and was stunned when a Swordsmen head he was fight rolled to his feet. On the other side of the battle line, another duel between a Sword and Goblin continued. Even though years of training the Swordsman had an issue of attacking such a small target but the Night Goblin took advantage of his lack of height to choose his target. The swordsman was watching out for a spear thrust not a head butt to the crotch. Such a strike laid out the swordsman to the ground stunned to the world around him.
Captain Heidenreich and his bodyguard not wanting the Stone Troll to contribute his considerable strength to the battle hacked at the downed troll but were frustrated them as each wound quickly healed but stunned.
Ironarm with visions of the greenskin gods dancing through his head guiding his weapon. The Goblin God steered his spear into flesh downing one opponent but ignoring his flank. A hack and a spray blood Ironarm grasped the steel in his chest. As life essence drained down the sword the Swordsman put his boot on Ironarm’s shoulder tugging the stuck blade out. Ironarm fell face first onto the green slain.

Turn 4
Night Goblin ~
This time the a little less of a grunt the Night Goblin set the barracks alight. Seeing smoke and flames makes the little pryo giggle at the carnage he created. The blood slicked grass the combat continued, the weakened Troll had a dim light go off in his mind, RUN AWAY! But with his wounds still not healed he attempted to crawl away from the fight. Blows from the Goblins into the breastplates and shields were to much for the tiring Swords men to take knocking down to the ground with their shields up in defense. Finally, the chickens were bested by the Night Goblin who fell on them and the smell of old robe killed them through asphyxiation.

Empire ~
The Troll crawling off from the battle Heidenreich ordered his Bodyguard to finish the job as he eyed another for his sword. The tip of his sword locates the nearest Night Goblin and his boots dig in kicking up blood, dirt and grass and he slammed into a new melee. Smiling at his ill gotten gains the Night Goblin stood up with a chicken in each hand and let out his mightiest war cry (squeak). Looking up, smoke and sound slam into him from all sides. Chicken feathers and Goblin blood spray across the battlefield.
In a fury of kicks, shield strikes surrounded in the front and flanks the swordsman attempted to fend off all the incoming attacks. A Goblin got a hold of his shield and ripped it away. As the shield flew away dagger and spear tips found purchase and the swordsman was sent to Morr. Bleeding from so many wounds the troll was not crawling away quick enough. The bodyguards fell on to the troll stabbing and hacking till the heart of the troll had no blood left to pump. Captain Heidenreich charging in charging into a new combatant, the Goblin stabbed as he charged in. Heidenreich’s shield effortlessly slapped the spear thrust to the side and with a wide sweeping back handed sword swing and gush of gore shot into the air as the Goblin’s head flew into the air.

Turn 5
Night Goblin ~
The shots from the hand gunners did not fell the stunned Night Goblin for long. Jumping barricade, another lit torch streaking through the air landing on the burning barracks. The torch landing on a pile of uniforms setting the interior a blaze. The swordsman still amazed that he survived such a fall did not hear the three other Goblins drawing daggers or the squeaks of their war cry as they descended upon him stabbing and clawing the life from him. The hand gunners running from the burning tower, beams and bricks tumbling inside as the tower collapses from the fire are charged by two Goblins. The Goblins stabbing away with their spears at the unarmored gunners. One took a spear in the gut, dropping his weapon to the ground. His comrade enraged by the death of his friend took all his rage out with a vicious rifle butt to skull smashing a Night Goblin to death.
The battle that could not be avoided. Madeye has watched his best laid plan crumble in front of his eyes by these annoying humans. He spotted their leader finish of another of his war band and decided to finish this once and for all. Screaming as he charged along with two Goblins for support at Captain Heidenreich full on at a run spear probing for a weakness but alas failing in all attempts. The Captain parrying all attack with deft skill and swift, sure movements Madeye’s spear was knocked away and a deep sword thrust pierced Madeye’s black heart. Without even looking, Heidenreich withdrew his sword and turned to the other opponents.

Empire ~
Combat still was hot and heavy on the parade field the remaining hand gunners opened up on single lone exposed Night Goblin. His robes stood no match to that much lead as it smashed bone and tearing flesh and was thrown back dead. However, the melee has tired both sides to the point of not one attack finding soft flesh.

Turn 6
Night Goblin ~
As the Night Goblins noticed that Madeye and Ironarm were no more their fighting sprit left them. The swordsmen too advantage of this stunning two with shield blows to the face.

Empire
The stunned Night Goblins were finished off quickly and the remaining Goblins decided that it was too much to bear and disengaged from the melee.

Results ~
The remaining raiding party screaming ran back into the woods away from the determined resistance of the garrison. Hand gunners sending volley after volley at the enemy to send them on their way. Smoke rising over the two destroyed buildings in the outpost signaled only one thing, that this is no longer going to be a dull backwater post anymore. Captain Heidenreich walked over to the body of the ravaged Stone Troll and sank his blood sword into its back and smiled, “Troll stakes anyone?”

The Empire won but by only 8 victory points. It was a very close fought match with only 10 guys left standing on each side.

Great report, love the table set up. The most important question: Where did you get the sheep and chickens from?

To answer Platuan4th's question, I do not know. They were my friend's models but I will ask him tomorrow and will have your answer posted on here by tomorrow night.

Malfred, I don't mind changing it to the article system. If you could walk me through it since I am still new to this site that would be great. Thanks.

My gaming group and I are trying out Warhammer Skirmish as part of a larger campaign. So far the battles are quick, easy and very fun. Way better than Kill Team. I will post more battle reports as we play more missions. We are even going to try out the Naval Battles in the General's Compendium. This campaign will be a blast.

Hey Platuan,

I bought those miniatures from mega miniatures, linkage; http://www.thewarstore.com/megaminiaturesdungeondecor.html

I'm not quite sure what you would need koala bears, platypus and dingo models for...but the fact he sculpted them almost demands a purchase eh?

The big trees were homemade (floral foam/putty/wire), the small trees were Woodland scenics on homemade bases, the board was the usual and the house/village terrain are GW sets. It was a fun scenario/game to watch and photograph! They had a blast playing it...
