Yup these are just like the old "toy box" range GW did about 7 years ago. Wonder if they still are intending to get this into the mass market retailers?

My guess, is that they are used for marketing not game play(but can be).

P.S. Thats what companies are supposed to do. You know, make money.

Gaa! I guess you'll see these in Target and Wal-Mart in the models aisle. That's kinda cool until they realize that they'll need the offical GW glue, paints, brushes, white glue and flocking. Then I'm sure they're hoping they'll suck in a kiddo or two to take Mom or Pop to the nearest Hobby Center to get acosted by a redshirt and get one of those nifty paint lessons. Then said kiddo is going to learn that there is a game also after being hammered into a demo. But, you need more models, rules and a codex to boot. Trust me, there's been a lot of thought on how these kits are going to get new players into the game. Those of you who've worked for geedub know what I'm talking about. Don't underestimate the power of the Dark Side to make a buck or two!

guessing these are £5 sets? possibly even £6 form some of the recent pricing. I remember when I started most sets were similar to this, my first boxw as £5 and for that I got 10 skinks! At that age I only chose them becuase there were extra in the box than the others (who usually had 8). Kids want quanity over quality, however it still is a clever ploy.

They look pretty stiff, and I hate that you only get 3 MEQs per box. They dont cost that much more to make do they?

That said, I may get the IG just so I can have a go of painting them.

True, but thats what the rules are for. Oh well, Spase Marinez are GW's best selling product, and this cuts down on production costs.

However for all the complaints, they truly arent that bad. The Eldar and IG look almost like the regular ones, and the Plastic snap together Commander and Dread really show how good they are getting at making the snap builds now.

hmm i am tempted by the guardsmen to replace the models i convert into command platoon gimps....

The Imperium of Man is able to traverse the Warp with difficulty when their Emperor concentrates from his golden life support machine and lights the way. Unfortunately, because the Emperor has the attention span of the average 5-year-old Pokemon fanboy, this means that many an unfortunate Imperial ship has had the WTF WHERE'D THE LIGHTS GO experience, which in the Warp is invariably fatal.

I will probably pick up one or 2 of the Chaos and Cadian boxes, just for pose variation or modeling raw materials. At $8 per box US, the marines are NOT that good of a price per model (2.66 each) .. whereas the Cadians are probably fair.. (1.60 each)

The Cadian Shock troops are 20 for $35, which works out to 1.75 per model.. (but factor in special weapons and command figs)

You know, I got the same feeling when they released the new Ork Codex. And when they released the Soulgrinder model. In fact, I feel like everything they've released lately is somehow a ploy to make money. Come to think of it, I feel the same way about the two beers I bought last night and the shirt I bought the day before.

Very peculiar.

Pointless.

You wont have enough kiddie game bits to make a kiddie game, so dont bother. for each of those snap fit kit wastes of space a metal kit could have been brought out in plastic.

What would make these really cool is if they came with the ability to blow apart! The bases could have little tube coming off the back where you hook up a small hand held pump that makes the figures explode!

The Cadians are more expensive (model for model) than the standard plastic Cadians.

Just to be sure, Cadians are still £18.00 for 20 right?

In the UK the snapfits are more expensive (£1 vs £0,90 each), while in the US they are cheaper. Wonder what I will pay for them in Euro's?

Wow. Maybe they could have made them look like they were, say, shooting their guns. Instead of just holding them across their chests.

How hard would it have been to model those heads (even half of them) at a 45 degree angle, in the direction their guns are pointing?

I would have really welcomed some quicker-to-assemble guardians (man, do I hate glueing those back-fins on). But these poses are unworkable unless the heads can be tilted. If third-world manufacturers of green plastic armymen can get their poses right, why can't one of the world's largest producers of fine gaming miniatures do so?

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

In plastic, without making the heads a seperate piece... practically impossible without losing or fudging a lot of detail.

Heads generally need to be either directly forward or fully side-on... and fully side-on often still requires some wierd detail stretching.

But these poses are unworkable unless the heads can be tilted.

'Unworkable' ???

If you take a close look at some of those cheap green army men some time, you'll find that they tend to have a lot of stretched, lopsided or missing detail to work around the limitations of plastic casting.

If it really bothers you, lopping off a head and regluing it at a different angle is the work of mere moments.

Not interested because these mean you don't get the bitz and accessory upgrade sprues.

Who wants 3 CSM, when buying 7 more costs the same *and* gives you a HB, the Special Weapons, along with the cool Champion bitz?

I could see buying a 5-man SM sprue if it were $15, because you'd get a Combat Squad at a fair discount from the $35 Tactical Squad price, to offset the lack of a $5+ upgrade sprue.

Pass.

Good call JohnHDD.

I am aware they are a company.

I am aware they are in the 'Business' of making money.

I am also aware of the way they put real thought to the fact if you want a squad of any type in the game that can have 'all of the options' so to speak, you need to buy 2 Boxes of said squad.

2 assault cannons anybody............?

But if you buy the $35 box you can turn around and sell those "extra" bits that you're not using building 20 lasgun cadians on ebay and I'll bet you can make your .15 per fig back.
Although these will be easier to build than those blasted Cadians, I have touble getting their arms to line up.

GW's clever that way.

But what's really clever is how they're going to pinch Termies back to a single AssCan or Cyclone per squad.

And that is what turns the mundane (hitting customers for extra cash for a nearly essential upgrade) into the sublime (making that upgrade no longer useable).

That goes beyond "clever" into the land of "really annoying", actually.

A better compromise would have been to at least allow 2 heavies in a ten man squad.

BUT, Roboute forbade such nonsense, apparently.

Roboute Guilliman knew that putting the power of two Heavy 4 Rending assault cannons under the command of a single Space Marine sergeant would make a second Horus Heresy a virtual certainty. No man should have that much power.

If I played any of these armies, I would consider getting these minis, if only for variety's sake. I bought some Macragge marines off a friend recently, just to spice things up a bit.
