Okay, working on a Chaos list for an army I am thinking of buying and building. One problem. Since Lesser Daemons dont take a slot in the FOC but count "as" troops, can they claim Objectives?

They are pretty good for the points cost, and summoned close in front of units work to their advantage, but if they can claim objectives then they'll be worth finding a spot for in almost every list.

Let me know guys.. look forward to all of your insight

I would assume that they can claim objectives. I mean, why not?

Yup, Lesser Daemons are Troops; they just don't take up a Troops slot in the Force Organization Chart. This means you can have about as many Troops as you can afford.

If you're going to take them, you're going to need Icons. Since that is the case, you'll find that HQ units like Chaos Lords and Chaos Sorcerers mesh well with them.

But if you depend on them to do anything alone, you're going to get disillusioned quickly. They do well supporting stuff, pulling meat-shield duty, and preventing Chaos Marines from being swamped by a numerically superior enemy (such as Imperial Guard). They can assault from a Deep Strike, and that is very useful.

A daemon is only 2 pts cheaper than a marine. Just saying.

Yes, but they can assault after deep strike, have pretty much the same profile, just a 5+ invulnable save

Lesser Daemons are units I would want to field, but the whole Icon business is rather annoying. Plus there aren't any suitable models for the sort of CSM I want to field.

Lesser Daemons are good, though it’s been tough to find points for them under 4th with their relative lower killiness compared to CSMs. I’ve still been using a unit of 8 in my list, which also includes two rhino squads, a raptor squad, and a flying sorcerer all with icons, so it gives them a lot of flexibility in where they appear, to maximize their chances of being able to hit a good target when they appear. I think their relative value obviously increases in 5th, due to the need for Troops. The increased utility/reduced vulnerability of Rhinos helps them too, as Rhino-borne squads are good delivery platforms for them.

And they are about 10 pts cheaper than Cult Marines. Just saying.

I usually run two squads as speed bumps. Being fearless, they can tie up units while I concentrate my fire on other enemy units. So far they have not let me down.

they are the best objective stealer's as they are only 65pts for 5 and can claim an objective until all are dead since they have fearless
