I'm a little stunned by the stupidity of it, that sort of thing is looked down on in primary school. How did anyone involved think that would be funny, or seen as anything other than pathetic.

Anyway the protests came from the Chinese-American Organitation not from the PRC people or the Japanese embassy or any other related asian goverment.

While possible while a tad offensive to some we feel so because we are programmed by political correctness to be offended at a hair trigger responce. Frankly this shows the Spanish are more laid back and less dogmatic than the rest of us, perhaps we are the ones who need to learn.
Is there any indication that an oriental would suffer more abuse in Spain than in other western countries where the outward trappings of perceived racism are discouraged.

On Boris Johnson.
He does gaff, but then again he is a smart man who went with what he could do. Boris cut his political teeth doing shows like Have I Got News For You. Why? because since 1997 Tories do not get equal access to the press. The then leader Willian Hague was called the 'quiet man of politics' - he wasnt, but his critique of the government got no airtime on the BBC.
Boris knew that in the early Blair years especially to get a public face as a Tory you needed to be willing to do satire. The BBC did not stop Tories getting satirical airtime as it does not look very electable.

Since Boris took over as mayor he has done a lot of good, ending much of the thinly veiled corruption of the Livingstone years. He is now a credible Tory, so the state media is set against him, highlighting his gaffs but underplaying his achievements.
