Subject: Do *YOU* have the coolest dice in your gaming group?
As far as the coolest dice in our gaming group - in my youth, there was one d20 of legend that my friends and I actually came to blows over - since no one ever had the guts to bring it to a game and use it for fear of it being stolen, it would typically be stolen from the current owner's room. Thus it would be passed among us, until someone managed to hide it - and it was never found again.

Sorry, but I don't have those dice. I have the coolest dice
in my group because they say Dakka Dakka on sixes.

Kelly (who plays in my former Saturday Night D20 group) probably has the best dice, if only because he has a file cabinet full of 'em, sorted by number of sides and color (and whether he's talking to them today or not). And by file cabinet, I mean a real file cabinet, not one of those expandable rolling file holders. I mean a piece of furniture.
It's kind of a problem (says the man who's run out of closet space for all his miniatures).

I'm fond of my Roman Numeral d6's, personally... but I LOVE that app.
Too bad I'll never own an iPhone!
On second thought... nah. Not that bad.

Iwant that sooooooooooo bad! But I would then not have any money left over for miniatures, and I don't want to play the same army for the rest of my life. Damn you I-Phone!

Not that cool to be honest. I like being able to pick up and feel the dice. I play 40k because it is a tangible game that requires some imagination and interaction with thing and people in the real world. This is just moving it closer to virtual games, that which I'm trying to find an alternative to in the first place.

Dice don't randomize properly, either, unless you're talking
about them fancy Vegas dice.
The difference between kustom orky dice and computer
programmed dice is probably not that far. (Unless they're
kustom balanced as well!)

what? Apple geeks (sorry, believe the term in use these days is 'fan-boi') NEED a program on their phones to drink their beer for them as well? How sissyboy is that?
just kidding, really. Everyone knows iphone users don't drink beer. They can't figure out how to get the bottles open.

Saw the iphone dice in person last night at our D&D game. The guy with the phone wouldn't use them 'cause he didn't trust the randomization either. Frankly, I think there's something primal to the feel of the dice in your hand vs. some wonky program (even if it's presented in a visually stunning way).
Meh, considering the way he rolled last night I would have gone with the phone.

I'm currently (i.e. it is about 1% complete) working on a java app that rolls dice for me,
the good thing about it will be:
you tell it the number of sides,
you tell it how many dice to roll,
what the dice has to be over/under to pass a non-specific test (e.g. d6 over 4 to hit roll, 2d6 under 10 to pass morale)
it tells you how many dice have passed/failed
will take a while to get done though, due to lazyness on my part
though it won't be as fun as rolling physical dice
And that is why you hear people yelling FOR THE EMPEROR rather than FOR LOGICAL AND QUANTIFIABLE BASED DECISIONS FOR THE BETTERMENT OF THE MAJORITY!
