Just heard (for the 3 people on this board who might care) GW will be at the China Model Exhibition at the Beijing Exhibition Center Oct 3-6.

Pretty cool. I'm actually psyched for this.
Now of course since the government here asked for Worlds of Warcraft to be censored since it is "an immoral horrifying game" I wonder how GW stuff will go over.

Good question....
Though if they can crack China, they should be on to a winner.
Do you know if there are any Chinese Wargames Manufacturers?

No I think the government there does a pretty good job of that by themselves.

I was wondering how censored they would have to be myself. The WoW thing was pretty big news, but even WotC had to change some of the Chinese art in Tenth.
I guess a good way to get a call from the thought police would be to start a Vampire or Legion of the Damned army.

I have one. You need better jokes .
Chinese censorship is pretty random at times. It kind of depends on what the state believes the popularity of what is being censored would be. It also gives special treatment to online media like MMO's which are believed to be little more than clamps on productivity. Also China is quick to deal with anything thats "online". China has an enormous WoW playing population, but their wargaming population is relatively miniscule and invisible by comparison, so it likely would pass under the censors pretty well for a while.

However, China does have quite a strong cultural heritage, if what the Telly tells us is correct.
And they certainly have Daemons etc in their folklore. Add in not being a Christian Country (ergo no Chinese Jack Chick) and I think GW might be okay.
The look of some models (boobs out ones) might be a problem.

They have demons, but they freak the hell out for skulls and skeletons.
Yet more skulls and yelling correlation...

There's also an element of economic and cultural nationalism in the broo-ha-ha over WoW. China is trying to encourage the growth of home-grown games, animation, films and other IP.
And it really is totally random. They made Disney cut all of Chow Yang Fat's scenes out of Pirates of the Caribbean because...
(are you ready for this)
THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS CHINESE PIRATES!
And Jet Li had to change the Chinese gangsters in one film to Taiwanese gangsters to get it by censors.
None of this will really matter to GW, China has no large table-top wargaming community (yet) and they are a tiny tiny presence with about 3 stores selling their stuff in a nation of 1.3 billion people.
In contrast if you don't read Chinese but are looking for an internet cafe just look for the WoW posters in the window.
However, China is a land of arbitrary power so yeah, one local official seeing some bare-boobed daemons could shut it down.
Anyway, point being, looking forward to the show, will have a lot of photos.

Certainly hope this works for them.
Of course, and being arguably slightly racist, though it may not be my intention, if they do crack China, they are liable to end up with a swarm of counterfeiters.
