So I got the new marine codex today! Yay! Yeah intertube shopping is nice but when you want something nothing beats a shop.
Anyway so we have a couple of new marines units I see. Honor Guard, Vanguard and Sternguard (ug, bad pun) which replace vets, thunderfire cannons which replace the old thudd gun and mole mortar, the Flaming Moe Class Land Raider and the Huey Land Speeder.
I know some people are annoyed by the fluff alterations. marines have been spelled out in far greater detail than any other faction in 40k, down to the last battle brother in cases like the Ultramarines.
Most of these are just GW making existing units more distinct or cooler. Vanguard/Sternguard/Honor Guard sounds a lot better than vets and turns 1 kit into 3. We've not seen GW's distinctive artillery since 2nd edition but at least they've been there before.
A new land raider variant is also acceptable, we've had new Rhino and LR variants appear before.
The LS Storm is the only one that really does not fit will. I doubt anyone ever said 'there is not such thing as a land speeder transport' but it does seem odd no one ever mentioned it.
But anyway, what other marine units might exist that just have not been seen 'on camera'. Are there any marine units mentioned before that have not shown up in 40k lately?

Another Rhino Variant perhaps, or even the long rumoured 'midway' twixt Predator and Land Raider.
Thinking back, I can't seem to recall the Marines not having something today that they used to, barring of course the old light Artillery types, and even then, most of them are there in some form or other (Thunderfire is a Thudgunn/Mole Mortar, and slightly tenuously, the Tarantula is available from Forgeworld)
So, yeah. I really cannot think of anything beyond variants.

Well there is one image of Marine MPs from Rogue Trader. That could be a fun unit. Give them enhanced senses and some anti infiltrator rules.
A lone-wolf Space Marine commando would be nice. Basically the vet version of a scout. Give him his demo charge, melta bombs, fleet and an invulnerable dodge save to make the other guy sweat.
Scouts should get a jeep. they won't since they just got a chopper but they should.
An all gun Land raider (ordinance and side weapons) is long overdue.
A while back I did a utility rhino, I always like it.

A Chaos Marine version of the scout might be good, Chosen are Veteran equivalents, not scouts. Maybe a cultist unit or a venerable dreadnought, Warp knows ours have been active long enough.

They should bring back the Heavy Webber, and have Space Marine "Live Capture" units to take all manner of things as slaves... err, specimens for use in playtime... err, scientific study.
I'd also like to see really, really short and stubby marines with slightly archaic wargear and really big beards.

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k. Rule #1 - BBAP

I think it'd be cool to see the ability to make a mixed squad a-la the Heresy books.
For example...An Ultramarines Captain and Honorguard with a single Thousand Son (or equivalent) Sorceror, three World Eater (or equivalent) assault marines, and Wolf Guard Battle Leader with Blood Claws.....
Thats a squad!

I would like to see the Battle Sisters' Repressor get a model and rules, especially now that Marines can make an Immloator out of a Razorback. Since battle sister squads can be large (10-20), a transport with an oversized troop compartment and additional fire points would be useful.

Stalwart Space Marine

The only thing that leaps to mind for me would be a special weapon squad. Fast attack choice. 5-10 models, MUST choose rhino, razorback, or drop pod, up to 4 of them may choose Meltagun, Flamer, Plasmagun, Storm Bolter, or Combi-bolter.

I was thinking they could use a new HQ, I was thinking an electro-preist but maybe what they need is a new non-servoharness Techmarine. Like we did not just get some cool techmarine stuff instead . But some kind of Super-Servitor Techmarine would be cool. Like Fabius for Servitors.

I think I'd rather GW spent more time on non- MEQ / Xenos stuff than finding ways to give MEQs even more stuff...

its all fun and games untill someone puts a demolisher cannon on a landraider. the new machine spirit rules make the validity of this unit even worse, plus you can't give a landraider a dozerblade anymore, let alone the vindicator one that lets you ignore difficult terrain. this was put out by gw so I built one. I ask if I can use it but it really is great fun
but I'd love to see some kind of guard allie rules, especially with the rumored black ha.. I man valkrye. but I'm already hearing problems of marine players taking sister allies with 'vulcan' and debating the melta/flamer rules. twin linked ap1 flamers.
I miss having 2 meltaguns/plasmaguns in a squad. I"ll pay more for it but I don't want a 'free' heavy weapon in a drop pod.
