I used to have a SM army at school and Uni.

Now i'm slowly getting back into stuff. So much has changed.

wtf is a Tau? and wtf is a Necron? Where did they come from/
and what happened to the Squats?
Do you still get Genestealers and hybrids?

i have tons of random questions like these i guess if i read enough they'll be answered but i'm impatient.

Welcome back! Is 40k the only wargame you're really into, or have you dabbled with other GW (or non-GW) games?

Forever alone

Necrons are undead robots! Hurr!
Tau are communists in space.
Squats got killed off somehow.
Genestealers are now a Tyranid-exclusive unit. No more cults sorry.
Welcome back.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

Necrons. Formerly the Necrontyr, and servants of the C'Tan, the Stargods. Brought the Galaxy to it's knees, with the C'Tan devouring pretty much all life, finding it tastier than Stars. Having done this, they realised their mistake and went into hibernation, and recently awoke.

Tau are a bright new race, masters of technology, ever expanding, and believe all races can act together For The Greater Good. They have no psykers, no Gods, and most importantly, barely show up in the Warp.

Squats were seen for the spank they were, and despite attempts to renvisage them, plug got pulled. In the fluff, it mentions Ghazkghull stomping all over Golgotha, their former home world, so one assumes the Leagues are no more, having be wiped out by Orks. The Nids confusion comes from a throwaway comment made by either Jervis or Andy C.

Genestealer cults a thing of the past. Sadly.

Thanks guys.

I only really played 40K i got into it through space hulk and space crusade and heroquest.
I started building a skeleton army for whfb but never finished it.
I was always more into the converting and modelling than playing.
i'll keep reading and no doubt i'll have more daft questions.

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

It's rare that I would suggest this, but this might be a good time to look at the GW website. Much as it pains me to admit it, for someone who's been so far out of the loop for such a long time (I mean, Necrons first showed up in 2nd Ed, and that was 4 editions ago!!!), it would be a good place to quickly get up to speed.

Or just go to the 40K Wiki.
