Subject: Using an eldar avatar as a counts as daemon prince? Fluff to back this up.

i need a 3rd prince in my army, and it needs to be different, so i was thinking of lightly converting an avatar and painting it slaaneshy.
a little fluff:
Fuelled by the instinct to kill and destroy, the Avatar blazed into life, and seized heartslayer in its unbreakable grip. With a laugh, the greater daemon sheared off the bloodied fist about his throat, and blinded the avatar with swift strikes to its burning eyes. its heat crackled over the keeper of secrets immortal flesh and washed through his spirit, invigorating his desire to possses this thing. Awakened but untamed, the avatar was a soulless thing, and heart slayer saw opportunity in its hollowness. The greater daemon invested himself into the shell of the avatar, and perverted it from within. Bursting forth with borrowed form, the keeper of secrets blazed with the sacred fire.
should be enough.

i want to try and keep it as much of an origional model as possible, since the KOS simply uses it as a shell rather than transforms it into its body.

I think it'd work fine. It's not like you have anything else in the army or codex it could easily be confused with.

Did you see the deceiver to Avatar conversion someone did for the golden demon? that would be a heck of a base to start from.
In fact, here it is: http://demonwinner.free.fr/usa/2008Los_Angeles/golden_demon_winner.php?categorie=4#3rd

its a good idea but I'm not keen on it at all. fluff I understand where your coming from but the avatar is a deamon from a different set of gods. he can't be possessed no more can a greater deamon be truly killed. if you really want to convert it this way, I'd make the joints disconnected and make him look really dead. if you don't convert the hell out of it it's just going to look like the avatar got lost on the way to the fight. why would the deamon want to re animate the avatar? Flayed ones get away with putting the skin of their enemy's on themselves but thats got a solid foundation. I don't see a deamon possessing a body in this way, it would sap his own power and limit his strength's. They are the strongest manifest of the chaos gods, why would they do this? if you want a different deamon there's a lot better options to choos from. www.40kradio.com did a segment on one of their deamon princess. it would take away from the rest of your army having an eldar unit running around as chaos. its like me using brodside's as terminators, or immortals as space marines.

They are the strongest manifest of the chaos gods, why would they do this?
for the same reason other model would wear termy armour, for more protection.
and for a ref. to the fluff its page 26 of the daemons dex, so apparently it is possible for a greater daemon to possess an avatar.

next time I see one of theri codex's i'll look at that, but I still don't think that a model with a 3+/5+ monstrouse needst to possess an avatar.
I guess my biggest gripe isn't the model itself but unless you have a crushing eldar theme to your army it'll stick out like a sore thumb.

wash, dont forget this is a prince that will be possessing the avatar rather than the KOS, so for a rpince its a nice upgrade, he will have iron hide to represent it, so a 3+ save with a 5+ inv save on top of that.
frazz mate, its on order now
i brought it while making this thread, allways fun with a new project.
and dead-pointy-headed-space-elves will run big in my theme.
going to try for an all slaanesh daemon army, not so good in games since they are frail, but its worth a go.

well how about a large daemonette claw replacing the bloody hand. Im not big on conversion work myself but I like to think of ideas every now and then. If theres space for it maybe a seductive tentacle coming out from somewhere (3rd arm maybe). And how about using a nid implant attack to extend the avatars tongue...slanneshi(ish)

lukus, its not the work that bothers me, just painting up the daemon prince of nurgle ive just sculpted out of GS.
just wanted to go with more of an essence of possession rather than physical possession.

IMO, it's better not to take the Avatar model, but if you're planning on significant conversion, go for it!

I doubt you would do this, but I have the vision of an avatar holding a hand mirror and looking at its reflection. Instead of an avatar you see the reflection of the face of a demonette.

since it'll just be the iron parts of his armour I'd consider hacking up the avatar intopeices like the torso, chest arms and legs, and having them connected with green stuff choasy power.

It sounds like a pretty good idea. I like the back story. wash-away's idea above. You could even have a go at sculpting the wound that initially weakened it, like a gash in the neck, or a stab wound over the chest.

I agree, the disem"bodied" Avatar is the way to go for this project.
I really like the idea too, 'cause I've always though of the Avatar as basically a Greater Daemon of Khaine, lol
