I haven't seen pics yet, but saw the news posted on TTGN.

If you don't know, Bastions are the Protectorate of Menoth's large infantry. Yum!

And so it begins. I wonder why they chose that particular kit. Could just be that they didn't want to do a Warjack on the first go.

We did get a fair bit of warning, though. I remember this first came up over six months ago.

To be honest, along with "Page Fioove! HURR!" (And a more deserving hurr I cannot think of) the strict adherance to metal only is one of the companies worst policies.
I'd be delighted to have plastic kits for some of my miniatures.

Four years or so ago when they came out I knew it was a bad idea to push the "full metal" thing. Plastic is just too much fun, cheap (by comparison half the time) and you can make stuff bigger than a Behemoth.

Got any pics?

I think this is phenomenal news, and I posted on the PP forum as such. WM has awesome designs, art, and a great game system, but I got bored with the inflexible modeling as time went on. I think they should redo most if not all of the infantry and troop-type units in plastic to both bring some of the Prime stuff in-line with the newer design quality, and to provide more modeling flexibility to the game, the lack of which is why I got bored with WM/H. If they released the basic Khador infantry units (stormtroopers, IronFangs, ManOWars, and better-looking Winter Guard), I'd probably rebuy most of the models I own and get back into WM heavily. Stuff like the characters and unique figures, and unique jacks should stay metal, as PP does wonders with the medium, but I think the game needs more modeling customization as a whole, and good plastic kits are an affordable and effective method to achieve that.

I love most everything about PP, but I never bought into the 'plastic-hate' at all, and have fun painting PP models AND customizing plastic GW models... if PP combines the two, more power to them. It'll be a shame to see the naysayers jump shark over the introduction of plastics, but really, as long as the plastic kits are good (and really, IP technology has excelled SOOOO much in the last decade that there's no reason for them not to be) then the whole 'metal is better' argument does not hold a lot of water except in the cases of special one-off figures like characters. Line jacks and infantry units will all be better served by customizable and flexible plastic kits that provide both ease of assembly and opportunities for creativity for everyone, and there's no reason not to like it.

I tend to be optimistic about it. We'll know more when the first pictures will show up, but my first instinct is that they'll be more easily convertable than equivalent metals, and probably easier to put together, too.

The supply does not get to make the demands.

QQ more. Seriously, it's endearing.

On Topic, I'm a bit hesitant about the plastics, especially if they don't redo models that need to be redone(Winterguard) or models that form the real core of most armies(Trenchers, long gunners, zealots, IFP, McThralls) in plastic. My poor Cryx are begging for some McThralls, but I don't want to get 2 full units to only have them offered in plastic within the year.

They've been talking it up for a long time now. I hope the kit doesn't look like butt.

I got into WM when it first came out and one of the strongest reasons given for palying was the fact that all the models were pewter. The plastic hate hung thick in the air and always has; when I stopped playing people were still downing GW for selling plastic, defending PP's comparable prices with "At least all their stuff is metal,".

And now they're starting to produce plastic models. Hmmm...

I think this is a good step for PP. I think they could do everything but warcasters in plastic and it would be cool, but I would be surprised to see any plastic warjacks. Maybe lights, but I don't think they would make plastic heavies.

Sort of makes me regret selling my Protectorate force. Oh well. Maybe they'll do some nice plastics for Hordes and I'll get that Circle army off the ground.

The part I liked was when he said that they could use a plastic kit as a reason to resculpt.

I'm thinking Winterguard in the next few years.

Plastics eh? That's about a book earlier than I expected but good news non the less. I expected the Prime units to be first.

I called the WG as the forefront of the 'resculpt me' pack as soon as I saw the notice. Matt also acknowledged in another post that like-chassised warjacks will likely see multi-option plastic boxed sets.

I expected multi jack kits, it makes a lot of sense.

Interestingly these guys (Bastions) will be the same size, roughly, as Space Marine Terminators. I wonder how they'll compare sculpt and price wise and also against Khador Man-O-Wars their nearest Warmachine models.

I'll be really happy if I can get plastic Trolls. Especially units. I really don't like spending that much on the metal ones.

This would be win. Especially if they're relatively easy to magnetize with arms(then they could just do upgrade packs for each book). But they should keep all the named Jacks as metals.

It seems that medium based infantry, cavalry, warjacks and Warbeasts are at the top of their list so Trolls must be high on that list. Kriel Warriors are the worst value (£ vs. points) unit in the game.

I'm definately going to hold off buying the Boodgorgers and Steelhead cavalry till I find out more. £40 for a reasonably sized unit sucks, I'll be glad when that idea's dead and gone. GW cavalry is £12 for a box of five at the moment compared to £50+ for a similar sized WM cavalry unit.

I'm inclined to agree, but that still means Drago is $60, which I just don't see... I remember when the coolest thing about WM was how cheap the 'jacks were... it was like nothing to just grab an extra Juggy or whatnot along with whatever else I was buying from the FLGS that day.

Wow! I'm surprised they moved this quickly, frankly. I figured they'd do some recuts with plastic components before they did a whole unit (perhaps this is a trial balloon?)

Considering the price of tin, it's really no surprise that they were going to move toward plastic. We're watching historical (Wargames Factory, which uses recycled plastic, Warlord, Victrix, the Perrys, FOW [components]) go to plastic in a big way, and even with the price of oil (which is now going down due to lowered demand), the amount of petroleum used is so minuscule (less if they used recycled materials), and the savings on shipping (lighter packaging) sizable enough, and the technology has improved enough (e.g. tamiya kits) that it only makes sense.

I DO like the heft of a metal model, but as long as they can maintain the quality with plastic, I'm happy.

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil

Tamiya nothing... go look at some of Dragon's (DML) Gen2 WWII 1/35 scale figure kits and slide-molded armor kit parts and tell me cast-metal can do better.

not possible.

They should do combo sets. Say Pretorian Swordsmen and Pretorian Venerators in the same box. Or not. Too many magnets.

This is great! I've always wanted to play WM, but the metals on top of my existing 40K armies would be too expensive. If PP start releasing plastics, I'll blow my top!

I see he still has that same snotty "I'm never wrong" attitude he had before, when I quit personally buying PP products.

They have some nice minis, but I just don't condone the attitude.
