Beware of flying pigs. As of this morning I heard 1-3 inches in parts of Liberty county. This is like snow in Cancun...

Yeah, southerners + vehicles + snow = disaster.
Of course, being in WI, the first snowfall of the year brings out the same.
I love driving 33 miles to work at convoy speeds.

It was freaky in Downtown Houston last nite around 8:00 pm as I went to work. Our spanish interpreter's black car was nearly white it had so much snow on it. The air was thick with flurries as I was walking across a parking when I was going to the local pizz place to grab a few slices on the way in. Anything that was not concrete had snow actually sticking on it. Some things had about half an inch on them. My co worker who comes in later at 9:30 said he saw a wreck on his way into downtown from Jacinto City. We also saw the usual assortment of the homeless staying out there wrapped up in blankets. You would think they would go to the shelter that is near there but they didnt.
This really isnt the first time it has snowed here though. It does about every 5-7 years. I can remember four instances of snow in my 31 years on this mudball. Funny story though about the last time it snowed herein 2003 or 2004. A buddy of mine joined up in the army and got stationed in germany. He met and married a spanish girl over there, and they had a kid. He decided that winter that he had had enough of the cold and wanted a few days back in somewhere that isn't ballfreezingly cole with no snow so he packed the wife and kid up and they came over for a visit to his family. The night they got here was the night it snowed. He brought it with him. I have half a mind of calling up and finding out if he is in town.

Yeah, for whatever reason the first snowfall always means a lot of stupidly cautious drivers. It's some kind of selective amnesia from the previous winter. Never experienced driving in a freak snowfall in the South, although my uncle in Georgia says people have no idea what to do when it happens.
I bet you have pretty good snow removal in WI, though. Seems like I don't get half as much snow in the Philly area as I did when I lived in Pittsburgh, but the snowfalls we do get are more paralyzing. I mean, I've seen 4-lane, important roads here go unplowed for *hours* during a moderate snowfall. It's stuff they would have cleaned up in Pittsburgh without blinking, or at least back when I lived there.

Overall, it isn't bad. U.S. 41 usually has the right lane cleared somewhat. I'm on the way to work at 4:30 am, too, so you have to factor that in. by pm, everying's usually perfect.
I've counted up to 12 cars in the ditch over 30 miles. It's mainly people that think they can scream along at 70 mph like they do every day.
My street must be the last to get ploughed, though. To get onto the street that was ploughed, I had to crash through the berm.
I used to live up in Superior, across from Duluth. On Oct 30, 1991 (The due date of my first son), we got nearly 40 inches at once. Nothing moved.

Snow is not the worst, sleet/freezing rain is. People think to themselves "It's not snow, so I can handle it" Then you see them careening down the highway, their car spinning like a top. Once it took me three hours to go eight miles on I-35 from Lenexa to KC.

From what I've heard, that's an entire order of magnitude worse, without any bad weather. That's why I'm glad to remain here in the wasteland between the coasts.
