I was thinking, a good and fun way (for me anyway) to get better at modelling and painting, is to participate in contests. Even if they have 0 prizes, so. Are there any websites aroudn that do contests regularly and if no then why hasn't someone started some up here.

SM - 8060 pts
Chaos Deamons - 885 pts
Chaos Marines - 500pts |

I was actually thinking of suggesting a Dakkadakka run 'tale of four gamers' (an old white dwarf feature for those who don't recall) style competition, like you purely to motivate me and not for any added prize.

I think I actually ran a 'Tale of Dakka Gamers' on the most recent version of Old Dakka. I believe I did it with Tomb Kings. Lost to the warp now, of course.

Work in Progress runs them, as does Grey_Death here from time to time.
If you win here, you get a Dakka Painting Challenge Winner animation for you to put in your sig and I think a set of Dakka Dice(if available).

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k. Rule #1 - BBAP

How'd it go?
I think it would be kinda fun, although obviously the actual gaming aspects of the concept wouldn't be applicable. I was thinking more a points system, declare what units your doing each month, lose points for missing a deadline gain them for quality, quantity, effort etc.

IIRC, it was closer to a P&M Blog. The concept was like the original Tale of Four Gamers from WD 19X, it was a finance based system. You had $100 in the first month, then $50 a month thereafter to buy models & bitz (bitz box pieces, rulebooks and paints were exempt from the budget) and the idea was to have a tournament sized army (1850 points back then) fieldable and painted and win at least 1 battle after the six-month duration was done.
Not sure if it ever got finished before real life pulled me away from GW & dakkadakka for a few years.
