Batwoman has been a lesbian since the Infinite Crisis storyline concluded. The link you provided is broken, but is Batgirl (ie. Barbara Gordon, AKA Oracle) a lesbian now too?
DC are trying to broaden their market beyond white males (hence the new blue beetle is latino for example), but I'd like it if they came up with some new characters instead of retconning old ones.

They also made Detective Montoya a lesbian. But you have a good point- not knowing any lesbians, I have no idea what the general feeling is on their ridiculous portrayal in the media.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.
