...but what the hell is Dan Snyder thinking paying $115m for a DT, even if it is Haynesworth. That's ridiculous and it's gonna kill the cap in 2010/2011

Dude, I hear you. Dan Snyder has GOT to go.

I'm *STILL* pissed off about that Deion Sanders signing from several years ago.

I'd repressed the Deion thing. Yeah, but him & Bruce Smith were terrible on the Skins.

Snyder can stay, but he needs to hire a proper damn GM

Haynesworth will implode since he's been paid. It's an awful signing. The Skins were basically competing with themselves to sign him. Unless they change their MO, the Skins will continue to be just good enough to occassionally make the playoffs and lose in the first round.

I didn't really read all the particulars of the deal, but I believe 2010 is likely going to be capless. Maybe the contract takes advantage of that, I dunno.

The other thing is that teams usually grossly overpay in free agency for established talent in their prime. It's just how the system works. Although I'd question whether the team is that close to the promised land that Haynesworth would put them over the top.

I'm just wondering how my Steelers are going to put an o-line together between their free agents and the guys they've cut.

Looks like 2010 will be uncapped. That doesn't mean you should throw your money away. Haynesworth had basically 2 good years and is a mental case.

The Steelers O-line was just good enough for them to win the SuperBowl. Starks is back, and while he's not what I'd call a franchise LT, he's good enough. Colon should be back at RT, or they might move him inside. He might be a better fit at guard. It's not a given they'll lose LG Kemonateu. They might, but I don't think it's a given. RG Simmons will be back next year, but he's had a history of injuries. Tony Hills has a year in their system, and I wouldn't be shocked if he wins a starting job in the next few years. Hartwig was decent at center, and Stapleton did a good job at RG after Simmons went down. Both Hartwing and Stapleton are prone to getting run over by bigger d-linemen. If Pitt gets another Guard (maybe in the draft), they might even move Simmons to Center. Although, Simmons, at least his first few years, struggled getting a good anchor against some of the stronger d-tackles. Marvel Smith was a solid LT for a long time, but he can't stay healthy.

I think the Steelers will address their o-line like they address all their holes over the years. Draft several guys at the position, bring in a couple vets with modest salaries, let them fight it out.

LG and C are probably the 'easiest' o-line positions to play. Not that I could do it, but it's easier to play there than LT or RT. Most pass protection schemes shift to the left, so the LG has help from the C and LT, the C has help from the guards. The LT has help from the LG. The RT is usually left on an island, and sometimes that means he is more important than even the LT, despite LTs getting all the attention lately.

Except they released Simmons today. They're down to one G under contract on the roster, I believe.

I agree that moving Colon inside makes sense, but then they'd still need a RT, which they don't have. I've heard whispers that Tony Hills is a bust. Granted, he was just a rookie. But I have a feeling he needs to show some significant improvement in camp to make the team.

EDIT: They signed Kemoeatu.

Post-Gazette says that they did release Simmons. Also says that they resigned Little Kemo.

I didn't like Simmons' new contract in 2007, but I think that I like his release even less.

Pittsburgh is putting themselves in position to just draft 'best available', although I wouldn't rule out a move up to get a player. Could be a bunch of OTs going in the first round. CB is another area of some need. I also won't be disappointed if they draft a big DL.

It depends on if your entire receiving corps goes down with Bubonic Plague again or not,, sonofruss. at least the NFC worst is a crappy division ripe for the plucking.

The Lions should be demoted to the CFL.

In all seriousness, the NFL should step in and 'assist' ownership with the Lions. It's clear that the Fords have no clue and need help. Just as MLB needs to help ownership of the Pittsburgh Pirates. There's no excuse for chronically bad teams.

And now the skins cut Taylor, for wanting to dance rather than work-out. It's actually a sensible decision to cut him, but that's two draft picks and $8.5m of cap hit that we ain't getting back.

Damn it, Danny!

A second round pick for five sacks (iirc) is a bad trade. Shows that Parcells is the master and Snyder is the special ed student.

Snyder would probably be a hero as owner of the Pirates. In baseball, if you need a third baseman, you just pay to get one and then plug him in. Snyder still hasn't learned that football's about more than throwing together a bunch of high-priced spare parts.

Good lord, they traded to get Taylor and then didn't even use him in a way that best used his talents. That's one broken front office.

Well, the Taylor thing wasn't aided by injuries. I also believe that if Daniels hadn't gone down prior to the start of the season, the Skins wouldn't have even bothered signing Taylor.

Ha ha! The Dallas Cowboys just cut Owens and Saftey Roy Williams. The NFC East just got easier for the 'skins!
