Just wondering if anyone on Dakka likes to play Mario Kart, be it the original, double dash, wii, or DS versions.
Personally I like MK wii the best, followed by the original, double dash (gc) then the ds game.
Feel free to post anything you'd like to discuss about mario kart.
I hated it. My friend always put fake item cubes everywhere. I showed him when we started playing Soulcalibur III.
People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.
I just don't get why people like the SNES version so much. I'm into gaming for the graphics, but when it comes to racing games I prefer a 3-dimensional track.
MKwii was okay, but most of the tracks very too dull for me. And I just can't play it with the wheel. Just like in Smash Bros I need a GC controller
My favorite is double dash. In the Wii version if you aren't on a motorcycle your not going to win the race, something about that irks me. That in a cart racing game being on a motorcycle is the best option.
Once upon a time, I told myself it's better to be smart than lucky. Every day, the world proves me wrong a little more.

I'm guessing you didn't play the SNES version when it was originally released. It wasn't like there was a lot of 3D Racing (or any 3D games) at the time.

The first one I played was the SNES version at my cousin's house (in which I had an uncanny talent at getting lightning bolts out of item boxes), though the first one I owned was 64. I think I prefer 64 to double dash (the only other one I have aside from one on the GBA).
Ah mario kart. The N64 was the first console my single mother could afford to get me and mario kart came with it, so besides playing the old nintendo and sega consoles before round at friends houses, Mario Kart was my first ever game. Great memories.
CRAP CRAP CRAP!!! I can't believe my typo I just noticed. ARGH! What I meant was:

It's got to be the Mario Kart SNES version for me. Mainly for the awesome battlemode. It just worked far better than the N64 one.
Running through the almost mazelike arenas, trying to find weapon pick ups that hadn't been taken yet. Setting up bouncing Green Shell 'corridors of death', evading that Red Shell with a good slide around the corner. Great stuff, especially in 4 player mode.
Of course the terrain wasn't 3d (there was only fake 3d terrain in racers back then IIRC, like with the Top Gear games that simulated height differences) and the graphics weren't great. Something that wasn't necessarily helped by the roto-scoping technology that the SNES used for the game (and in other classics like F-Zero and Pilotwings). But p[layability was king!
