hi all dakkaites.

do you know those times then you want 'ard boyz, but theres not enough shoulder pads 'n jaws in the boyz box to make them? or the metal upgrade is costly (i dont know the other name for high priced)? well heres the easiest (and cheapest) solution.

HOME MADE ARMOUR!

i made this guide to help you make cheap armour for your orks! its wery simple. all you need is:

plastic card
cutter
scissors (if it can cut throught the plasticcard) or hobby knife
some boyz
and of course, glue!

first, you cut a piece of plastic thats big enough to use as shoulder pad on an ork.

then bend the piece so its curved.

glue it on the ork who should wear it.

and there you go! now he has an extra shoulder pad!

now its the jaw (its only a little tricky, but easy and simple).

firstly, you should cut a strip of plastic. it should be twice as long as the shoulder pad.

then, you check if its too long or short. you should bend it first so its curved before checking. if its too long, then cut it shorter. if its too short, or you accidently cutted it too short, then cut a new, longer piece or glue a piece to make it longer.

there you go. it should be this long.

now flatten the jaw piece again. now its time to cut out the "teef". simply cut them with a hobby knife or plastic cutter. its your decition what shape they have. i just made triangles on the jaw.

now bend it in shape again and glue it on. i recomment you to use second glue cuz the jaw might not had been curved enough so its a good idear to hold it in some seconds.

and 'ere yer go. now the boy has a jaw!

they can of course also be used as normal boyz. just mix the unit with a normal one without plates .

It is very a useful tutorial for an army with lots of Ard boyz in but the paint work on the models isn't that good and you should practise painting more to make your conversions look professional

I dont think they were fully painted considering the plasticard was still white...

Back on topic: I really like that... I never really thought of doing that for some reason! And they dont have to be perfect shoulder sizes either cause dey is orks! Nice tip mate!

I have an suggestion.

If you use 2 pieces of different sized plasticard for each shoulder and overlap them i think it will give it some deep and make it look better.

Like it! Great for rank and file boyz! No muss and very little fuss.

@Saltoric - It is a simple and easy conversion tutorial, NOT a painting tutorial.

I believe this is intended as a cheap, fast and simple way to convert lots of boyz. Kudos for big mek crazygit! Anyone can add on to this and make the models more detailed but you have provided a very nice starting point.

I do this all the time, except with a cheaper and easier to find resource: Cardboard. Cereal packet cardboard does the job just as well at a much lower cost.

To be honest the boyz frame comes with a fair few shoulder pads and iron jaws, but yeah I can see where your coming from.

Nice tip, straight and to the point. Maybe I ought to do my Guard shoulderpads in plasticard instead of GS.

In the Webway.

Another good tutorial, but generally i find once you've got enough boyz kits, and dont make 'ard boyz, you can just use the left over pieces. But its a good tutorial and very useful much better than the metal substitutions.
