So I am looking to paint and play a new army. I have narrowed my choices to Vanilla Space Marines, Tau Empire or Tyranids. This isn't my first time playing 40K. I have played before, mostly Imperial Guard and Dark Angles. I am starting a new army from the ground up.

Here are my thoughts for each army, I will just keep it broad and simple:

I like that the space marines are very versatile, good armor saves, lots of choices.

I like that the Tau are more of a finesse army, I like the crisis suits and railguns.

I like the idea of the power creep codex coming with the Tyranids. Not sure how versatile the codex will be, but in hand to hand they should probably make everyone wet their pants....

Thoughts???

Gathering the Informations.

Depends on what you really want to actually DO.

If you want to do a massive horde--oh, you cannot go wrong with Tyranids. If nothing else--it would also be a heck of a difference from painting DA/IG.

Wherever I want to be

I'd say it depends on the ways you like to defeat your enemies and the way you would like to play an army. tyranids rip things to shreds, Space Marines combine big guns and close combat in their troops, and Tau have huge mech suits and lots of missles. but it's your choice.

Well, since you already field a DA army,
I'd go either for Tau or Nids.
Moreover, you already have an IG army
so that I'd go for a non-shooty army.
Consequently, I'd consider Nids.

SM=Too much like your other armies to be as fun as they can be.
Tau=Toughest army to play as in the game. Possibility for great rewards, and bigger failures.
Nids=I hate bugs, and thus equip my boyz with Raid. But seriously I am biased because I really freaking hate nids, so for a horde army that makes people cry in CC more then any other army I take da Boyz! Trust me, a squad of 29 boyz+1 nob is ridiculous in CC. I love throwing out 120 attacks on the charge against other armies. But like I said, I am biased so don't count my nids evaluation...

How is it they live in such harmony - the billions of stars - when most men can barely go a minute without declaring war in their minds about someone they know.

i think since you've already got IG, you'll get bored doing another hoard army.I mean, I know I would. Vanilla SM could be fun, if you structure it the opposite of what you did with your DA army. (i.e. if DA's are a melee army, than do a shooty vanilla SM force.) However, just like doing another hoard army might get boring, so too might another power armor army.

It seems like Tau are the best bet if you want a more radical departure from what you've already collected, IMO.
