Hi everybody, I'm going to buy the Diablo II battlechest but I want to know if it's compatible with Vista. I mean Diablo is a pretty old game so will it run on Vista?

I would recommend waiting until you have Win7, from what I've heard, it fixes most of Vista's issues.

I tried installing it a couple weeks ago, uninstalled it for other reasons. Diablo 2 isn't Vista compatible, but if you install the Expansion it is.

Is it not possible to run it in compatibility mode for XP or earlier?

I have Win7 however so I may mess with it a bit when I get home. I still have Diablo II and the expansion sitting around somewhere....

Vista seems to overprocess the game. It comes up with the colours all 'mashed'. Only other time I've seen that was when I bought MW2 and started playing it - I had the graphics settings too low and my overclock on my card too high. Caused the game's resolution and colour to go all screwy. Lowered the card settings and upped the game's and it ran smooth as all hell

Upgrade to XP and you'll be fine.

Well, in all seriousness, D2 works just fine on Vista, so long as you install the expansion as well. I installed it and played it just fine (Though not for long - IMO it's a pretty boring series).

Fixed.

Nothing wrong with XP though.

It's an old joke from my regular gaming group (Though I'm sure we're not the first to think of it). XP was much better than Vista, despite coming before it, so moving from XP to Vista was a downgrade, and moving from Vista to XP was an upgrade.

I think he meant the part where you referred to the Diablo series as boring. It's simply unthinkable that anyone would say that.

Actually, I have to agree.

Blizzard's games all just feel way too linear. You play one once from start to finish and you've played it a million times over. Hopefully Diablo III will touch base with this and offer a little more freerange story development, but we'll have to see. All I know is, I won't be buying it on impulse like I do with most games.

It's not even the fact that it's totally linear - my main issue is that the game eventually descends into either button mashing, running around hitting enemies over and over again, or my personal favorite, running around doing nothing but dodging attacks (Thank you, Necromancer and Druid). From what I've seen, classes eventually descend into a build that requires the use of one or two powers in total, which in part is because of the fact that the game lacks an hotkey bar to drop powers onto. This is the primary reason that I'm looking forward to D3 - the fact that it has a hotbar that allows storing several powers and being able to use them as necessary.

I know I'll probably take flak for this, but in my own opinion, both of the Diablo games (As well as the expansion) are mind-numbingly dull.

Well I'll shield you from some of it by saying I completely agree. One playthrough is enough. After that, return the games and exchange them for something better.

It's fun for a while, but my index finger still aches as I think back to all that clicking.

Even then, you beat it once with the mod and it still just feels like Diablo II. There's just nothing that can be done to help those games.

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

I kind of feel like some Diablo II action now, I hate you.

I am not installing anything on my computer until I have the dream machine that can do installations in two minutes.

Forever alone

One thing I love about my crappy 8-year-old WinXP PC is that it can still run Diablo II, while my friend's Vista PC can't.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

It runs on Vista, but it slows down alot when you pop out the map.

There's a patch to fix it, if I'm not mistaken.
