So, with some interesting timing on my part, I have begun my next project: the entire 5th company of the Blood Angels. Not sure how nicely the new codex is going to play with me, but we'll see. Might get some new plastics out of the ordeal. It is important to note that though James Swallow's Blood Angels books have essentially killed off the 5th, my force is set roughly 1500 years prior to the events in his novels.

At the moment I have little to no painting supplies, so the first portion of this log will consist of my progress in the modeling department. I started with some rough notes about what I wanted my first Tac. squad to consist of, and I'll likely continue posting my initial notes before the models themselves.

These are mostly done; there's some cleaning up to do, but basically ready for paint.

I liked the idea of prototypes, so I've added an arc to the mk.6 helmet, trying to convey the idea of a middle ground between mk.6 and mk.7 parts.

Malachi here is still in progress.

A bit of gs work here to add some iconography, nothing big.

Heh, I play 5th Company too (although I haven't read the books- oops). I didn't want to choose a Company that a lot of people would pick (obviously there's some 1st Company in the army so I can use Terminators and so on, but 5th seemed like a more random choice).

Nice modeling, the GS bits make the models look a lot more individual.

I like where you're going. Its a pity that fluff writing cowboy has ruined things for the fifth company.

I hope you're happy with the codex! BA deserve something good.

Okay, I'll bite, what's the deal with everyone praising the 5th? I've read the books, for one, I wouldn't remember if the story involved one company over another. Is the book the only reason everybody seems 5th happy?

I picked the 5th for the same reason as Neith; I just hadn't seen a 5th company force before. I'm still working my way through the Blood Angels Omnibus, but I didn't want to change my fluff to accommodate what is, in my opinion, very poorly written fluff written by someone else. The books involve more or less the whole chapter, but they specifically mention that the 5th company were massacred, their captain killed, etc.

Glued the firing arm to the bolter, then attached to body. Then, before the rest was dry, I attached the other arm to the bolter and chest. As the liquid cement is drying, gently tweak things and move them around until it looks like you want it to. Also, be very selective about which bolter arms you use. For me, some are completely useless. Just be patient, try different things, and find what works for you.

Hmm, I don't think that'll affect my fluff too much then. If the Ultramarines can rebuild most of their 1st Company, I'm sure the Blood Angels could do the same for the 5th. I was going to check out the Blood Angels Omnibus, but I've heard a lot of bad press about it. As a Blood Angels player, are they worth reading at all?

Are they worth reading? For lack of any better BA fiction, yes. Are they well-written? Hell no. That being said, as a BA player, I still feel like it's my duty to have read them.

I don't understand all the dumping on the BA books. What were you expecting from derivative works of toy soldiers? If you want some BA fluff, check them out, they're fun.

Very nice models, especially the first.

I don't know what everyone has against the BA omnibus. I really enjoyed reading them.
