Bioware does it again! I love the brute savagery in the fights, seems so much...I dunno...real. Anywho, watch the trailers. Nerdgasm. Count down the days till it's released.

If you need me, I'll be busy wiping the layers of dust off my dice.

That is frigging awesome..

Gonna be a MMO? (Dont play mmos)

EDIT looked around game play looks bad. Graphix are meh. I thought that was the point of PCs to have good graphics.

No better way to show off an MMO's gameplay features than with a pre-rendered CGI movie.

I mean... nothing in that video will be in the game. Yay.

Graphics example. This is old news anyway.

More importantly - did anyone see he Kinect tech demo for The Force Unleashed 2 at the Microsoft show at E3? fething wow. The only half decent bit of the show, apart from the huge announcement about the slim.

It wasn't Force Unleashed, it was just Star Wars: Kinect or some-such. Looked wonderfully staged.

Ohh right I thought it was the sequel. What a shame. It was marvellously on rails though, and certainly prettied up afterwards if not actually recorded at all.

I think it's fair to say: who cares about walking around that bloody car?

It makes me sad pretty much every mmo is exclusive to the PC. I think only Square Enix seems to be making an effort to design for more than one platform.

Also, its not as if the argument that a console controller wouldn't work for them stands up to anything anymore. USB mouse and keyboard, anyone?

The reason isn't controllers.

The reason is more updates and development. MMOs are something where things can change quite a bit as time drags on. Those kinds of radical updates would take up a lot of hard drive space, download speeds, etc.

And can you imagine playing an MMO with the kinds of kiddies that play on consoles these days? People stand-bying boss fights, yadda yadda yadda.

I'd imagine most people on Xbox would have upgraded from 20gb hard drives by now, and the PS3 hard drives are not too skimpy on storage space. Also, broadband is pretty common now, so I doubt there would be alot of problems with lag or that sort of thing.

As to the potential kiddy problem - I understand that, but there was quite afew kiddies on WoW when I played that... and if they weren't literate you could always choose to ignore / not party with them.

While you can choose to ignore/not party with them--there'd need to be a system in place for actually picking, storing, and allowing you to continually return to a specific server.

There is a little truth to that but the greater problem is the licensing fees issue. Sony and MS want to much money from the developers. The way I understand it is that MS and Sony are basically basing there fees based on WoW's sub numbers and the developers are (while secretly hoping) not, because most MMO's don't. FFXI got away with it becuase the launch of the 360 MS wanted an MMO and fees were lower. There have been several MMO's to be developed for them but all died when the pricing couldn't be agreed on. Star Trek Online, Age of Conan, and Champions Online to name few.

Yeah, that is a bummer.

Still, it puzzles me how MMOs still have huge amounts of customers just on PCs. Am I the only one who can't be arsed to upgrade just for an MMO?

The successful MMOs(World of Warcraft being the biggest) don't require you to upgrade that much though.

Warcraft can be run on a 3-6 year old machine with a decent connection and graphics card.

Warhammer and Age of Conan couldn't.

My PC is mostly for productive things rather then games.. I would never play an fps on it.

I think my initial disappointment has ebbed. Watching sA's vid made me wanna play despite myself..

The only thing is MMO's are social right.. you can't just play it by your lonesome because they make it hard so you party up.. but, I don't do team work.

That Alderann trailer makes up for Episode 1 and 2.

That was one of the best things i've ever seen.

I don't know... maybe I'm getting too old for this gak but for some reason the trailer seemed more ridiculous than awesome. I'm also confused by some stuff... I thought this was set around the time of Knights of the Old Republic yet the narration mentions the Empire.

Yeah. The Sith have gone through multiple iterations, from being a massive order of Dark Side wielding militants, to the "Rule of Two" era Sith(A Master and Apprentice, never more never less), back to the Empire and then vanquished for awhile until Palpatine brought them back as the Rule of Two again.

Palpatine had a sith master before him. The guy he mentioned to anakin. So wouldnt the mean he wouldnt have revived it?

OOh.
My only beef was that the trroppers looked like clones.
And clone tropper armor was based on mandalorian. It doesnt make since.

It makes perfect sense, since the Exar Kun comics which were published in the late 80s, early 90s had the Republic's "Elite" Troopers wearing armor similar to the Clone Troopers'.

I hope you understand that this is a pre-rendered cutscene.

It's going to play nearly identically to World of Warcraft. If you consider that to be visceral and exciting, then you're pretty easily entertained. Admittedly, it seems to be animated a bit better, but I forsee a lot of animation glitches with the coreography. If you ever played The Matrix Online, you'll know what I mean. It looks no more interactive than Champions Online, and at least you can play that with a controller.

Class-based MMOs suck. Nearly every MMO since World of Warcraft has tried to emulate this game structure, and they've pretty much all failed miserably. You're going to be the same cookie-cutter, generic FOTM character as everyone else, and you'll be stuck raiding the endgame for better equipment, because developers think that cloning a game is going to make them any sort of money. This game will never live up to the brilliance that was pre-CU Star Wars Galaxies. But then again, no game really will, so that's kind of an unfair comparison.

Pain is an illusion of the senses, Despair an illusion of the mind.

Don't you mean since Dark Age of Camelot since WoW took most of it's structure and interface from it? Next your going to tell us that 40k ripped off Starcraft?
