Oh hi, I didn't see you come in.

I've not had a great deal of time of late to be very active in my 40k what with uni, work, protest and poking duchesses with a stick. But with the relaunch of the Dark Eldar and my birthday pretty much coinciding with one another a lot of people took it upon themselves to buy me different kits which I've accumulated since. I've only just really gotten around to painting some of them which is what this blog is going to focus on.

Fear not, mortals! For I am still working on my Traitor Guard and Night Lord miniatures! My Dark Eldar are to be my main gaming army while the other two will be for apocalypse games and general modelling and painting.

For those who know my painting style they will be fully aware that I am used to painting in quite a grunge style; dark colours, lots of weathering, dirty and generally badass! For this army, I'm Monty Pythoning it up! I've always wanted to do something with bone armour so I expanded that and devised my colour scheme for my Dark Eldar. This, to me, is hostile territory. I'm not used to painting with so many bright colours so any tips will be welcome.

WiP Archon - Didn't like the glowing poo he had in his hand so I swapped it with a craftworld helmet. I wanted him to look as if he was contemplating the differences between the two branches of the species with some degree of disgust.

WiP Harlequin - Slightly modified metal mini. Simply sword and pistol swap.

WiP Warriors - The beginnings of a squad comprised of what I could salvage from my old Third Edition boxset.

WiP Kabalite Warriors - More to try and show the basic bone armour colouring

WiP Fallen Warriors - Squad of Eldar Guardians a friend left at my place years ago being recycled

WiP Jetbikes

WiP Raider - I've had this since 1998 when I picked it up day of release on a trip to Warhammer World. Lots of missing bits but will rectify.

Buddy got me this yesterday from our local model shop. BNIB bitches!!!

This is it built. Going to have warriors hanging off the side much like the new Raider

WiP Wyches - Since picture was taken the flesh has been painted

I've also got some Hellions I'm building up. Converting the leader to look like my girlfriend as her name is Helen. Makes sense. But she's changed her hair since I last made a mini of her, never easy is it!

Planned units:

Incubi - Using Dire Avenger helmets as I'm not keen on the standard ones
Talos - Kitbash of Wraithlord, Warwalker and Raider bits
2nd jetbike squadron - Comprised of old Dark Eldar jetbike and two Eldar jetbikes
Kabalite Trueborn - Kabalite and Dark Elf car crash
Ravager
Scourges - Eldar Swooping hawks I've ordered on the cheap from eBay with maxmini wings

Enjoy! C&C very much welcomed, especially if it rubs my ego the right way

Armies:
(CSM/HH) - Iron Warriors; Death Guard; World Eaters; Night Lords
IG - Vestfalian Expeditionary
Force (Solar Auxilia - HH)
SM - Blades of Inaros (Homebrew)
DE - Kabal of Ouroboros

Oh, infilTRAITOR coming back!!!

The scheme looks very promising, I have no doubt you'll quickly get used to bright colours, with the high degree of awesomeness we are used to see in your minis!!

Yay! Been seeing these on Facebook, but of course you cant vote how awesome they are on facebook

I particularly like the bone (almost sandstone) look that these peices have going on. A big difference to the standard GW 'dark' colour schemes.

I've been playing Dark Eldar since before the hype came out about them, so I guess that makes me a long-term player

Very Nice conversions. It seems i am not the only one who likes the way bone looks on the DE models (check my P & M.) Btw I would kill for those incubi heads if you don't plan on using 'em (and the horned archon one for that matter). I don't have much DE bits yet but i have hundreds of other metal GW miniatures (because i am guessing you wouldn't want my (badly) painted plastic) for a trade of somekind, PM if interested for a list.... The only DE bits i currently have to spare are most of the raider accessories (i would even be willing to part with the guys that hang on).

I was due to grab some Incubi yesterday but my local GW had sold out. Do they not know who I am?!?!! I don't know if I'll keep the heads or not until I see them in my hands but if I dislike them I'll wing you over a PM.

Payday is coming soon so I can do some more ordering, hopefully get my custom Talos built.

For now my only update is this fella, he's the most complete mini I have in the army so far but still not done. I only took the picture to test out my new camera which, as it turns out, is the tits.

Getting used to the new colours now and I'm pretty pleased with the skin.

I love the blue-tinted skin tones. Across a whole army, it should give them a wonderfully eerie glow.

No visual updates yet as I've spent the last few days organising my bits pit and spending monies!

I picked up, yesterday, some Kroot, some Grave Guard and and another box of Kabalite warriors. My intention was to use 10x Kroot as a squad of Kabalite Warriors as I've always wanted some Kroot. The grave guard and kabalites were intended to be used to make a squad of Trueborn Elites but my test mini didn't work as planned as the Guard seem to do a Michael Jackson lean while walking. So I'm ordering some High Elf Torsos and Dark Elf Corsair arms to make my Trueborn and use the Grave Guard to make a Beastmaster.

Now, I'm not a patient person and I simply cannot wait until April time to use the rest of the codex that currently doesn't have any miniatures. So, I'm taking inspiration from a story from the DE Codex which involves the T'au. I have found in my bits pit 3x Battlesuits, 12x Firewarriors and a Skyray. The Skyray is BNIB while the rest need some love or building. I will try and turn the Battlesuits into Wracks (using equivalent weaponry) and just making the Skyray into a Devilfish to use as a Raider (again, using equivalent weapons).

I'm not sure on the story behind the T'au being a part of a Dark Eldar force but they've fought alongside before. I've always been keen on doing a ronin theme for an =]I[=munda project so I might do something similar with these blue upstarts.

Anyone want to offer their thoughts?

Well Kroot work in any army, so's they're good ta go, but Tau?

Are they going to be evil Tau, or genetically fiddled with Tau or whathaveyou, as I doubt they would willingly work with Dark eldar.

Ah but you see they have worked willingly with Dark Eldar. There is a fantastic story about it in the DE Codex which I loved.

I'm toying with the idea of having my T'au as a shamed unit who failed the greater good and are now hired guns. But I am after suggestions.

Oooh, that is darn interesting!

Hmm, I swear I've seen a juicy 'disgraced Tau' conversion somewhere on the internet. I'll have a look.

Well, I have always considered the Tau as "fickle", so it wouldn't bother me to see them allying with the DEs. Either way, since they are all psychically blank, I guess they don't care much about Slaanesh & those kid-scaring imperial tales...

Could you share the story in the DE codex? It seems interesting....

If you can find it I'll be very interested! I'm just using it as an excuse to finally use T'au stuff I bought on a whim a few years ago plus I feel the DE aren't very flexible with the current limited release.

Gah, hadn't installed scanner software when I reinstalled Windows so just downloaded the .pdf of the codex and screengrabbed the story.

I've hosted it externally just in case of copyright nazis:

And for giggles, an awesome bit of artwork.

Thanks!!!

Yeah, that artwork is madness...

The story is interesting indeed... and a good reason to be able to include some Kroots & Tau in your army!

One thing I don't get though, is all the "seven"-related figures... 77 Tau from each caste, 7 Ethereals, 7077 Tau, 77 Ethereals...

Usually DEs are more affiliated with Slaanesh (which should bring up 6s, not 7s), so what's the point? Has anyone a clue?

The dark eldar are obsessed with excesses of pain and hate but they are not chaos. They hate and fear Slannesh just as much as craftworld eldar, because when they die their soul get sucked into the warp and the grasp of slannesh.

Indeed, sorry, I should have written "connected" or "linked with", instead of "affiliated"... But even so, you're right, it wouldn't justify the 6s anyways uh...

Bone colored Reaver bikes? DARN RIGHT!! To be honest, I just do not understood why every Reaver bike you see is painted black. Blood doesn't show up on black. As we all know, Dark Eldar are all psychopathic killers, and Reavers are the "crazies" of the bunch. If I were to put myself into that mindset, I'd want every single arterial spurt, every evisceration, every gouge, gash, nick and paper cut to be written on my bike like a war trophy. I'm actually painting my Reavers the same way, although probably not as well.

My only suggestion would be to put some blood splatter on those bad boys.
