So, a while ago, I discovered how great inquisitors can be when allied with the imperial guard, specifically when you use them in tandem with the leadership-dropping, psycher squad of roving death. However, I never really found that I liked any of the inquisitor models, and I tend to convert all my models as well. I've spent a lot of time on The Conclave, and I'm quite familiar with the =][= rpg, so I tend to imagine inquisitors as much more subdued people running around deep undercover through the dark streets of hive cities, and I tried to replicate that a little. I also was very much inspired by Victoria Lamb's squad entry into the Australian golden demon a while ago, the design of which I've pretty much entirely stolen. But enough with that. These are my two inquisitors that I converted up from death cult assasins. The greatcoats were made from sheets of greenstuff, and I can't for the life of me remember where I found the tutorial on how to do that. The heads come from microart studios, and they annoyingly arrived two months after I ordered them due to a shipping error, but still, they were very high quality and I'm glad that I got them. It did mean that they had been sitting around headless for a couple of months. GW has too few female heads.

This is inquisitor Anya Shepard. Out of all of them, she is the one that I am happiest with. I imagine her less as a 40k tabletop inquisitor, and more as a Inquisitormunda, or 28mm Inquisitor character. When they arrived, I was so happy to get the heads finally, that I glued them on, did some last things with greenstuff, primed them and went off to the store to paint just this model, all on the same day. The body and the left leg are the only bits that remain from the death cult assassin. The arms and the right leg were both sculpted over a paperclip armature, and the shotgun comes from a tutorial that I saw on this site a bit ago.

And this is the other 'low key' inquisitor (although, this one is certainly more suited to slaying demons on the battlefield) that I made. She was the first one to be converted up, and so, she didn't come out quite as well, since I wasn't quite so confident with sculpting, but overall I'm still pretty pleased. I kinda messed up the collar of the coat, as it comes much too far down the front of the coat, but, what can I say, I live in Australia and we don't have much use for coats. The staff is made from brass rod, a catachan combat knife, and an eyeball from a chaos spawn. Once again, the arms are paperclips, but the legs are the original ones, just reposed. I had to do a lot of bending and cutting to get these models right. Their backs were originally bent back over themselves like a goddam u-turn, and the legs were a bit annoyingly placed. Metal is a bitch to work with. The armor was astronomican grey with a bucketload of purple was pored over it.

And finally, this was just another inquisitor that I converted up out of the old Cortez model. While not every inquisitor needs to be a hulking monstrosity in mystical armor, some are. I imagine him leading an assault on a demon world. Contrary to what everyone thinks, the gun is not supposed to be a combi-flamer, but more along the lines of the timeshift hell-fire gun (without the flamethrower bit). I think the sword is from a grey knight model, but I have no idea. The head is from something to do with space wolves. I've also discovered that blue and purple make great washes for shading purple (it comes about a bit more subtly that the photo makes out. In fact, the photo kinda butchers the effect. Damn cameras being imperfect in the face of the brilliance of the human eye).'

And finally, they get to pose as a team ('cause gak just got real)

Overall, these guys were great fun to work on. It's really fun creating characters, as opposed to mechanical mostrosities. Comments would be appreciated.

Also, I've finally managed to bump up photo bucket's image quality, so that makes me happy.

Everywhere I'm not supposed to be.

In the last picture, does the female inquisitor on the right have an aquilla on her bum?

If you need me, I'll be busy wiping the layers of dust off my dice.

I am trying to find the right word to say just how impressed I am with the first two. The trench coats are very nicely done. The poses are well thought out and using death cult assassins would never have crossed my mind. Only slight criticism is that the bolt pistol is a little big....but that is GWs fault (I wish they made a decent sized human bolt pistol).

Nice shotgun....might just have to try that one out myself.

As for the Cortez conversion, solid change to the model...I think the hell fire gun is cool. I feel it is definitely within the purview of an older inquisitor to have a full suit of power armour.

Thanks for sharing

Thanks guys. I really wish that I could remember where I got the trenchcoat tutorial from, because it is a great and easy way to make them, but I really can't, and google isn't turning up anything. Basically, you make a thin sheet of greenstuff, then cut out 4 shapes like this, and they go around the model:

And here's the shotgun thread.

Really really loving your 'subtle' inquisitors - I'm really glad I found this thread! Your GS work is really solid, and the proportions are dead on. Big fan, and I'll be keeping an eye out for more of your stuff!

Thanks once again guys.

Oh, and Scarper, I see that you also use microart heads. They're bloody good, aren't they? I really recommend them to everyone, even if shipping prices are a bit steep. Also, nice models in your gallery.

Thanks, lalabox! I'm really glad you like em, my GS skills are nothing on yours.

Word of mouth seems to be the way to sell for microart - I've recommended them to at least 30-odd people, and everyone else who uses them seems to as well!

And by the way, I'd totally kill for that trenchcoat tutorial if you happen to find it again

You know, it really shouldn't be this difficult to find something on the internet. And yet, after checking several pages into google on about 20 different permutations of 'imperial guard, greatcoat, greenstuff, tutorial, inquisitor', I still can't find it. I'm beginning to think that they took it down or something.

Well, I remember a trenchcoat tutorial for an ork that I easily enough tweaked for a daemonette of mine, which turned out pretty well. Pretty cool converts, though the daemonhunter's halberd is rather awkward, with such a wide blade. I'd personally go wider or longer, but she's still good.
