Slant Six Games has thus far made its bread off of Sony's SOCOM: Navy SEALs franchise. However, last year word emerged that the studio may be branching out when Kotaku ran a rumor indicating that the studio was staffing up for Resident Evil: Raccoon City, a "team-based" spin-off for the franchise.

Now, it looks as if those rumors were well founded. Gaming website Stick Skills claims to have secured an advance copy of the May 2011 issue of the Official Xbox Magazine, within which are the first details on Slant Six's Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City. Stick Skills ran down the details from the story on its website and forwarded a photo of the periodical to Joystiq.

According to the website, Operation Raccoon City will be available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this winter. It will reportedly be set in 1998, around the time of Umbrella's original T-virus outbreak. The squad-based shooter sees gamers assuming the role of one of four members in an Umbrella Security Services troupe.

A player's objective will reportedly be to cover up all evidence of the outbreak, indiscriminately killing zombies and survivors alike. However, not all humans will be easy prey, as the "three-corner conflict" reportedly sees gamers facing off against US Spec Ops.

I hate resident evil. Freaking fixed camera angle was fething terrible. I played for about an hour and returned the game, and got dead space instead. Dead space is freaking awesome, and a much better game. So is left 4 Dead 2, but that really isn't even a horror game so I guess it's a bit different.

Good news I suppose, but I swore off Capcom Games ever since they started to use smaller companies as Scapegoats.

I've never feared Death or Dying. I've only feared never Trying.

The fixed camera is one of the points of suspense for the game, so they can hide stuff around corners. It makes the game a hell of a lot more scary than Dead Space.

And I agree with Slarg. I'm not buying Capcom games anymore.
Especially with the gak they're pulling with MvC3.

I haven't played MvC3, but I have liked every Resident Evil game to date, with a few exceptions. I didn't like the rail shooters.

The fixed camera angle takes some getting used to, but so does black coffee with no sweetener.

MvC3 is a good game. But they released two characters (which were available at launch, and are probably on the disc, too) at $5 each. Then a 'shadowmode' for free (which is going against the 'AI of super-players'). The second Shadowmode, which only has 2-3 AI battles is released for a buck. Alternate costumes for 6 characters? $5, too.

I also like stuff like Umbrella Chronicles for the Wii, and I'm not one to enjoy Rail shooters, either. It was just fun to see the early games from a different point of view.

I didn't get a chance to play that one. The rail shooter that I did play was Dead Aim...I think? I didn't like the outbreak games either, but I think they were before their time. If they came out now they would be way better.

I agree with Outbreak. It's a shame they got cancelled, because with a solid online capability that we have today, it could be 100% better than what it was.

True. It was way before its time. I remember playing it and wondering what the heck is this? I didn't like it, but that was because I wasn't used to those kind of games. Left 4 Dead came out at the right time, unlike outbreak.

The same could be said of games like Halo 1 & 2. Most of my friends didn't hit the online scene until Halo 3. I remember playing Halo 1 at college across the network. System linking 4 consoles with Ethernet cables and having the consoles in 4 different dorms was pretty sweet.

Nice, and good to see something back in Racoon City, If I'm honest I haven't liked the franchise since they left it.

I actually like the sound of this.

Racoon City, Zombies, and I can have a squad with me? Nice! I honestly haven't cared for RE for a long time but if this game may bring me back into it.

Just have to wait and see.

Meh, it's just a 360/PS3 game. I won't ever play it.

What if the squad you used was entirely composed of females?

Seriously though, I thought that they were going to go back to the survival horror and away from the action-shootemup style.

Someone would still have to buy me a 360 or PS3. I don't have them and I'm not gonna get them any time soon, not enough money for it.

I think you can get a 360 emulator on your PC if you really wanted to.

But I'd still have to deal with XBL and I don't want to pay monthly.

That's not really relevant for single player games.

Unless they're moving RE to multiplayer?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Wait, why am I even asking that, of course they'll drop everything that made the RE franchise successful if they can imitate Left 4 Dead.

Why not? They made it into a rail shooter for cryin' out loud.

Yeah, was pissed about that, was even more pissed when they used a failed rail shooter as an excuse to not put RE 5 on the Wii.

I want my point and shoot dammit!

I like zombie rail shooters, too bad they were for the wii and not the PS3. I mean PS3 already has the guncom!

I mean, it could be a decent game still, right?

Sure, but not for its storyline, that's for sure

Its storyline is all too fethed up I think. There are too many resident evils out there for it not to be.

1,2,3,4,5 and not to mention Outbreak and the few other spin offs.

I didn't notice any real problems with 4. (haven't played anything more recent).

It probably helped that they got away from the Raccoon City and T virus stuff for a bit though.

Kind of like how they bring out a diet coke and then bring back Coke 'Classic'?

I think he means they made the games crappy so that when they brought out another raccoon city one it is a triumphant return rather than just more of the same.

Ding, ding, ding!

Its a joke in Futurama, but also a whole conspiracy thing. Coca-Cola stopped producing the original Coca-Cola and released a new formula that people bought but didn't like as much as the first formula. Then after awhile Coca-Cola rereleases the original formula and people cheered for it.

MvC3? Like that's the worst Capcom has done. What about poor Dante and the new Devil May Cry game?

There's nothing wrong with the new Dante.
Everyone goes "EMODANTE LOL!"

Just because he has black hair? Because everyone with black hair and a cig is now an emo?
