Subject: The Sons of Malice: Anarchist's Fist Warband

Last Spring I started painting the Sons of Malice and what started as a Kill-Team became a Terminator Army. The warband is called the Anarchist's Fist and will be comprised of 3 characters and 11 Sons at the least. My hope is to continuously upgrade this army. So what I have can change, such as the addition of new Terminators to bulk up the list, shiney new vehicles, or just better minis with new poses and conversions. I hope to use this thread to stay focused on the Sons of Malice and the fluff regarding the Anarchist's Fist warband. Hope you enjoy what you see! ---. M40 – It is speculated that Sons of Malice 2nd Company had separated from the Chapter in its entirety well after the Betrayal. The reasoning for their departure is unknown and their agenda just as mysterious. Aboard the Screaming King, the Astartes Strike Cruiser of the 2nd Company, they made their way from the Eye of Terror to the Ultima Segmentum. Current State of the Army: *This Photo will be updated with the Progression of the army. Army List: HQ • The Abhorred (Logan Grimnar) • The Blind (Njal Stormcaller)/(Rune Priest) Terminator Armor • The War-Caller (Wolf Priest) -Terminator Armor • The Veteran of Midas Bella (Wolf Guard Battle Leader) -Terminator Armor - SB to Wolf Claw - PW to Wolf Claw -x2 Fenrisian Wolves Elites The Corpse Guard Squad 1 •(Wolf Guard) -Terminator Armor - SB for A.Cannon - PW to Power Fist •(Wolf Guard) -Terminator Armor - SB for Combi-Melta - PW to Power Fist • (Wolf Guard) -Terminator Armor - PW to Power Fist •(Wolf Guard) -Terminator Armor - PW for Chainfist •(Wolf Guard) -Terminator Armor - PW to Chainfist Squad 2 •(Wolf Guard) -Terminator Armor -Cyclone Launcher •(Wolf Guard) -Terminator Armor - SB for Combi-Melta - PW to Power Fist •(Wolf Guard) -Terminator Armor - PW to Power Fist •(Wolf Guard) -Terminator Armor - PW to Power Fist •(Wolf Guard) -Terminator Armor - PW to Chainfist Heavy Support • “Monarch’s Agony” Land Raider Crusader -Multi-melta -Extra armor • “Great Maw” Lander Raider Redeemer Estimated Total: (1590) Lord Hister A'dol the Abhorred Mk1: -He is sitting on my desk and waiting for a new pot of grey paint so I can try my hand at highlighting. This mini will be my "MKI" because he does not, in any way, come off as a Logan Grimnar. He basically is the Terminator Lord pictured on the box. So When I am done painting him he may just end up as an extra body while I try to make a better Hister. Nay'Pal the War-Caller Brother-Anarch Roh Mal The white paint does not go on as smoothly so I am going to have to work on that more. I also want to work on highlighting as I have never really done it. The black parts of the mini will need it the most. I also think I will keep the storm-bolter weapons black with metallics.

Hate to Double Post but I got some work done... 998. M40 – Imperial Navy vessels respond to a psychic distress beacon emanating from unpatrolled regions of Ultima Segmentum. All that is found were the wreckages of several vessels and two highly damaged cruisers. It has been identified that the ships belonged two different Rogue Trader dynasties accompanied by their escorts. All escort vessels were destroyed while the two largest vessels showed signs of boarding actions from hull breaches and possibly teleportation. Survivors had been found but had been driven insane. Evidence of brutal, close quarters fighting left much of the decks in ruins and riddled with corpses. Comparison of logistic catalogues and inventory indicate that certain artefacts were taken. On the bridge of one Rogue Trader cruiser, a monitoring station catalogued the ships records. Among the last vessels to come into sensors range of the ship was identified and registered as the Screaming King. May I present my Geor the Blind WIP: A few notes: -The head pictured here will not be used, it is the only part not glued to the body in this pic. I may used the tusked helm from the Termie lord box but with a horn swap to make it look different than the same helm I am using from my count-as Lone Wolf Guard Battle Leader. -I am still trying to think of a better headpiece for the staff. -I also hope to pose is alright. I was thinking of the Librarian from the Space Hulk set where he is just walking(but looking tough). -Still debating on how I will paint him. -And even though he is a Njal count-as...I gave him a storm-bolter. Not a part of the Terminator army but a part of the Anarchist's Fist is Brother-Anarch Fovvus. I got bored one day and flipped through either the little WH40k rule book or SM codex and really liked the pose of an Ultramarine Apothecary. So with my kindergarten-level drawing skills I made a sketch: Then today I made a mini of him. Not exactly the pose i wanted but one that I still like. Gathered lots of ideas from AlanofAngels and his Kharn count-as. I may be able to use him as a Wolf Guard but I see him more of a Kharn count-as. and a little fluff... Brother- Anarch Fovvus: The story of Brother Fovvus, like his fellow Sons of Malice, starts upon the desolate world of Scelus. Among his tribe and clan, his desire to shed first blood set him apart from his kin as he rushed headlong towards his enemies. Such desire and skills learned from his youth propelled the new initiate up through the ranks of the assault squads as an Astartes. During the Betrayal, Brother Fovvus had become death on wings as he launched himself across the battlefield with his squad. When a stray shot from a Sororita’s metal gun robbed him of the use of his jump pack he charged on foot with chainaxe in hand. Hacking and slashing through the traitorous sisters, his armor had become slick with gore. As the mortal inquisitor was sacrificed Fovvus, like his brothers, feasted upon the flesh of the fallen. He consumed the dead Sororitas with the appetite of a maddened beast. Brother-Anarch Fovvus' descent into madness began with these acts of butchery and flesh-consumption. Not pictured is my first "Fenrisian" Wolf that I had assembled...but that will be for another day.

Thanks bunnygurl! I just hope I can keep making better ones so this army does not look too boring.
So some fluff to kick off the new post!
034. M41 – Battle of the Scarred Rock occurred, where Imperial forces were directly involved in actions against the Sons of Malice 2nd Company.
The massive Space Hulk, now known as the Scarred Rock, had appeared in a region of space between Segmentum Obscurus and the Ultima Segmentum. Within an hour of its appearance the Screaming King of the Sons of Malice had already completed boarding actions.
Two Imperial Naval vessels, The Searing Star & the Blade of Light, are accompanied by a Strike Cruiser of the Novamarines to investigate the Space Hulks appearance hours later. First to arrive out of a warp opening is the Searing Star. Upon their arrival the Screaming King attacks. The opening barrage delivered by the Sons of Malice Strike Cruiser breaks the back of the Searing Star while its systems experienced malfunctions. Gun decks, living quarters, armories, and the command deck are lost immediately.
The Blade of Light exits the warp and is unable to either assist their sister ship or attack the enemy from a mass of teleported boarders. Before its alarm klaxon can sound they have suffered losses on various parts of the ship. Due to the devastating attack of the Sons of Malice, the Novamarines send warriors to assist aboard the Blade of Light while preparing their own boarding actions.
The two Astartes Strike Cruisers engage one on one. Gun decks exchange fire between the two vessels as boarding torpedoes are fired at one another. Aboard both vessels vicious, close quarters combat wreaks bloody havoc. Both the Sons of Malice and Novamarines boarding crews fight with immeasurable aggression and hostility to bring down their enemy’s vessel from the inside out.
Despite serious losses, the Sons of Malice are able to exterminate all enemy boarders while their forces aboard the Novamarine Strike Cruiser succeed in crippling its engines. Having split their forces to engage both the Sons of Malice within the Space Hulk, the Blade of Light, and then losing those engaged in ship boarding, the Loyalist Marines are strained.
Intense firefights at chokeholds on board the Blade of Light results in grievous losses of Loyalist manpower. Brother-Anarch Fovvus of the Sons of Malice gains renown among his kin for leading his squad into the heart of the ships reactors while reaping a bloody toll among the naval crewmen and Novamarines. Armed with melta weapons, the Sons of Malice destroy the vital systems to power the ship. Unable to maneuver, the Blade of Light is taken out of the fight entirely. Many Imperial Navy personnel witness the Sons of Malice simply vanishing like a black fog from sight.
Having penetrated deep into the Space Hulk, the Novamarines found only empty corridors littered with empty bolter cases, scorched from flamers, and filled with the corpses of uncountable genestealers. The Sons of Malice had made much progress through the Space Hulk and Techmarine Valus of the Novamarines is filled with disgust over the possible loss of any technological finds. While making way through another corpse filled corridor a Novamarine trips a hidden trigger, setting off a series of explosions throughout the Scarred Rock planted by the Sons of Malice. Their foes had prepared and their trap left many killed, wounded, and stranded aboard the Space Hulk.
The Sons of Malice aboard the enemy Strike cruiser fight off defenders comprised of mortals, servitors, and the Novamarines themselves. Simultaneously, the Sons of Malice make way for the engine deck while keeping enemies off their back. When reaching their destination, the mortal crew, servitors, and techmarine are executed and the systems then sabotaged. Possibly through sorcery and arcane machinations, the Sons of Malice aboard the Novamarine vessel had teleported from the engine decks to the armory. Vicious fighting continued as Novamarines howled their chapter’s battle cries while their foes fought on in silence. The armory was taken within minutes and as the Novamarines regrouped to take back the facility. All they had found when they had arrived were their arms, ammo, and slain brethren whisked away by the traitors as melta bombs counted down to their detonation.
The Screaming King entered the warp leaving behind a scene of destruction. Two cruisers of the Imperial Navy and a Strike Cruise of the Novamarine were left crippled and desperately calling for aide. From the enemy, the Sons of Malice had taken the bodies and armor of their slain foe as well as their arms and ammunition. Most precious of all were the artefacts taken from the bowels of the Scarred Rock. The Novamarines vow vengeance upon the traitorous forces.
Now presenting my PIP, Brother-Anarch Pat'onh:
And Fovvus with a bit of paint on him:
Right now with my white...I think I am going to go back to mixing drops of grey into my white paint. I did this for Hister and it does the job well. However, the White doesn't "pop" out as much compared to Roh Mal and Pat'onh due to the grey but at least it will be even.

Loganwing. They're one of two armies in the game that allow an entire Terminator army, Logan Grimnar allows you to take Wolf Guard as troops, Wolf Guard can be upgraded with terminator armor, thus all Terminators. I like your color scheme, and I also have a question, where is the screaming skull helmet from?

@bigmek35: As Targeted stated, there is a perk with Logan Grimnar for the Wolf Guard being used as regular troops and get upgraded. I had seen one individual use this for a "Gore-Wing" filled with Brother-Slaughterers and really liked what he had going on. So I just did the same. It is a great way to build up a large point army with only a handful of miniatures. With the smaller number of marines you can add a lot more individual character to them as well.
@Targeted: The screaming skull is from the Vampire Counts Skeleton box. I had seen someone take a regular VC skellie skull and file that down onto a SM helm for a chaplain. I pretty much did the same. The only silly thing about a screaming skull on a Sons of Malice is that they fight in total silence.

Double Post!
Thanks to a suggestion from a friend, I think I will have a good, white paint job in no time flat.
So to show some results:
Early PIP of Brother-Anarch Nostras:
You can see a bit of the streaks but another coat or two and that will be a thing of the past!
And more work on Fovvus!
Sadly, these pics do not show off the white very well at all(night time, not a great lamp, etc) and on my other computer it looked grey. So I had to take this pic below to show the how it actually looks.
*the left shin is lumpy looking because I removed a skull emblem there with a knife WAAAY back in the day. So it is the plastic, not the paint job.
One thing I am considering for Fovvus is not paint silver trim on the white portions of the armor. Like around the shoulder guard, the knee & ankle, and the trim on the fore-arm I would keep that black and white contrast. I would paint the trim silver on the black portion though.
I need to do some basing for my Iron Warriors(nothing fancy though)...but I hope to finish up Fovvus soon and get back to work on the terminators.
Thanks for stopping by!

Maybe it's too late to suggest now but maybe a little bit of filing on the shin could smooth it out.
I'm not good at envisioning paint schemes or anything of the like, but I think your black/white, black/silver idea would look pretty good. I'm looking forward to seeing Mr. Fovvus done. I'll be watching.

Fantastic idea for an army, can't guarantee it's competitiveness (being only 14 models!) makes me want to start SoM...

bunnygurl: Someone had suggested that I weather it on another forum...which is a good idea. I am a bit hesitant to take a file to it now. This is honestly a lesson in checking my minis thoroughly instead of putting everything together in a mad dash out of excitement. Now...i just need to learn how to do do a weathered effect.
Davidian: It is good to be in the company of a fellow Malal follower. I really liked your Fantasy army with the rogue inquisitor and if you start some SoM let me know! I am not too bothered with the competitiveness of the army since I do not really play much to begin with (sadly). If i do ever take them to battle I think I will follow more of a "How many did I maim and slaughter" goal instead of achieving victories. in Fluff I am sure a terminator army can really hold its own...but on the table that's a whole other story.
Greedily he ate at the flesh in hand. It was no longer fresh having died days ago and rotted under the sun and elements. He bit down on another hunk of meat he flensed from the corpse. His lips, having chewed them away centuries ago, now left a nightmarish visage as the rot and drool from his feasting trickled out through his teeth.
Like a savage beast he chewed and gnawed away while spitting out the bits of shrapnel and rocks that dug into pitiful creature. The taste meant nothing even though the meats decay was evident by its smell and effects. Then, as though a spike had been driven though his skull, he dropped the flesh and grabbed his head with filth covered hands. Memories were forced upon his own as he a life he never lived replayed in his mind. Worst was the pain he felt from the creature’s death.
Brother-Anarch Hizar laughed at the sensation until the agony wracked his sanity. His jaw opened and the dead man’s gnarled flesh fell from his open mouth while his eyes were wide and staring down at the corpse before him. This was not the first time he had tasted it. The memories of the battle, the emotions, and the death of the guardsmen became so vivid. He could feel, as the mortal had, the bolter round piercing the helmet with neck-snapping pain before the shell exploded. His demise was instantaneous but its sensations were torturous.
He continued to laugh as he reached for the dropped flesh and began to tear another bite out of it. Every bite the memories became more and more alive. With every taste the memories became real. Bloody tears poured from his straining eyes sockets and down to his lipless mouth as he gnarled and chewed on flesh. He had tasted this a thousand times and the pains reinvigorated him as his mind was driven to madness.
Amidst the killing fields Brother-Anarch Hizar continued to feast upon the dead with his brothers. Their hard earned victory had called for this celebration. Together they consumed and each experienced the pain. As though losing their minds they would continue to eat for this offering was not for them but for their God.
So, for some pics:
a bit more paint on Fovvus
Nothing too extraordinary, just a little bit of metal work on him.
And my "Fenrisian Wolves"
The reasoning to use the juggernauts stems from the fact that 1.) they look cooler than the chaos hounds and 2.) I like the idea of the Sons of Malice enslaving and utilizing daemons of other deities.
I am thinking of painting the "shoulder guards" of the front legs and the hind legs in the quatered black & white style. So front left will be white, front right will be black, then back left black and back right in black. the upper plates will correspond to this as well. then the rest will be metallic.
I also need to think of what base to properly use for them. stick with the one they came with or maybe the biker ones? I don't really play but if i get the chance I want them to be fit and legit for battle.
And I would have done more painting but a little side project, that may have a future with the Sons Of Malice, has caught my attention. I am writing up my ideas on it and hope to share it soon with everyone for ideas and critique!

Thanks bunnygurl! The Juggernauts are pretty intimidating. I thought it was kind of crazy that someone modeled a Terminator riding one...now I see it can work because they are quite big.
Well, I did some painting but not too much for my Sons. Did some basing for Iron Warriors, a Malal warrior of the Old World, a san. guard, and a marine of a bigger stature.
So to start this off, an updated army pic (it can also be seen on post one):
some notes:
-Need biker bases for the "wolves" since they are fast attack under the SW Dex.
-I might use an altered version of the Termie Sorcerer helm for Geor. I don't like the spikes AND the bloodletter horns on the same mini.
-I need to get a real lightbox instead of going ghetto and using a model kit box and white book paper.
So the only real work I have done for the Sons was some metal work on Nostras and a bit more white on him.
Really happy with the way he is shaping up!
Now I mentioned earlier that I had an idea for a side project. Mostly, it resulted from the constant viewing of :: Legion at Rhisienne :: by Migsula. I love all of the thought that went into the making of his force and I like the idea of =][=munda. Not to mention the mind-blowing minis. So I have been thinking that I would like to get into this as well. Skirmish level battles, lots of story and narratives, and characterful minis seems to be the way for me to go since I hardly get to wage war on a table with a standard army. This Way I spend more time working on a handful of minis and working on fluff. So..first off, I wanted to make the biggerised marine. I will be honest and say that I never had an eye for larger scaled conversions but his work had me drooling.
so, with a scrapped Loyalist terminator I made this:
*these aren't Sons of Malice...I know...
So, I know I can make decent marines for this project if I gather the materials. *this Alpharius would have looked a lot better if I had not rushed the building and painting but excitement had me going to get it done quick.
My main deal is how to make a force. I need to see if there any good & established rules for Imunda otherwise I will have no Idea what to do. Right now, with just some good old fashioned imagination, I am thinking that I will either go with a small squad of SoM or a few Sons with followers akin to migsula's force. Having just Astartes in the force seems like a logical way to go as I do not think that they(the SoM) would go around gathering cultists. That is something a Word Bearer would spend time on. But this will be costly I think (a squad of 10 will cost $100 at least) and sadly my money tree is mostly used for junk like groceries, fuel, tuition, bills, etc.
The other idea is to use cultists. But I have a hard time reckoning with this. Two forces that make great use of mortals are the Word Bearers and the Alpha Legion. The WB seem to use mortal for distractions, human shields(in battle sacrifices), and for more souls to offer up to their Dark Gods. The AL use their mortals with a lot of finesse to the point that they seem comparable to something like a stormtrooper(elite/Spec-BlackOps). I really just cannot think of how a Son would use a Cultist.
some ideas I had were:
-Followers for Malal (since he leeches off of his followers like a parasite, the Sons could get human worshiper to "feed" Him and keep Him from leeching off their ranks)
-Combat other cultists (Malal cultists would go about attacking other cults who worship the other Dark Gods since the SoM and Malal hate the other forces of Chaos)
-To spread Anarchy using the "lower classes" of the IoM (basically, they could use mortals who are downtrodden and feel betrayed to cause massive riots and rebellions to cause havoc among loyalist forces...but this seems like something the AL do)
These are some ideas and if you have any to share that would be great!

What Time? Double Post Time!
I took this pic below and decided to use it to update the army pic on the first post as well.
I meant to take a pic of the LR only but I wanted to put the termies around it for scale and size. The LR, as it can be seen, is mostly built and just lacks the two top hatches, two side hatches, and its hurricane bolters of awesomeness.
I am dissapointed though with the LR C/R plastics. First off, the two "top parts" were a bit warped/messed up and do not fit snuggly on the top of the beast. So it has lead to some uneven-ess when inspected up close.
The interior will be closed off too. The front hatch got messed up pretty bad and I will not be able to make use of it opening and closing. I was hoping to leave lots of skeleton bits on the interior and a crucified skeleton on the top part of the front hatch interior. Basically, when you open it, there would be some poor fellas bones stretched out as the SoM stormed out into combat.
I really like the LR overall, just upset that I won't be able to make a 'showpiece' out of it like I intended. However, opportunity will strike again when my penny jar gets 6200 pennies in it.
On Thursday, I did some hard work in my Analytical Philosophy course. With pen in hand, I started doodling on the edges of my notebook while listening to the instructor go on about the Correspondence of Truth and came up with something for Geor.
When I got home, with imagination in mind and bitz in hand I made a head piece for his staff:
I also decided to use the sorcerer helm from the Termie Lord box but did away with the spikes as it would look too busy with those spikes and the bloodletters horns.
He still needs some more work done, mostly the skeleton on the staff needs a left arm. However, the left arm for skellies are usually at a 90 degree angle to hold shields.
Thanks once again for taking a look!

Third times a charm.
I have been painting a lot of red this week but I did some more work on the Sons.
Mostly did some detail work like the skulls and trinkets that the termies have by their waist. I have some chains and hooks that I still need to paint. I have two more Sons to paint for the first squad, which is still not named. So perhaps I will start painting their white armor, do their silver trim, and details this weekend. After that I need to finalize what kind of base I want to do, then I will build the second squad.
May I present Brother-Anarch Mengala:
I used chainmail for his tusks and the horns on his shoulder pad. I have to say I like boltgun metal a good bit more.
In the pic you can also see the dice I recently purchased, so I will be doing some test runs of my Sons versus my Imperial Fists. *one game will take an hour or six since it will be me going back and forth learning with the rule book.

I have edited the first post with an updated army list. It is still not the finalized list. I am debating whether I should give each squad a combi-flamer. I played a mock game of my Sons vs Imperial Fists at the Battle of the Dining Room table and I think a flamer (with good dice rolls) will come in handy in the future.
In the last few days I have also finished a majority of my first Corpse Guard squad. *one of them may be swapped with a member of second squad.
I'm happy to see these Terminators with their chapter colors after they had been sitting quartered black and grey for months. More work to be done on them in the near future.
and my prep work for the "wolves" paint scheme.
The grey are obviously shows where I want to paint it white. The other parts will be painted metallic. Wondering if I should do its ribcage in black and white or metallic. opinions?
My fluff is that these beasts were captured (a'la pokemon) during a battle with World Eaters and Daemonic forces of Khorne. Long story short, Geor with his talent in sorcery and dark arts, bound these creatures to Malals service. Nostras is capable of "controlling" them in battle. A story worth a novel, compressed into three sentences
Well, hopefully more work to come for the Sons of Malice after I finish some reports and projects. Thanks for taking a look and C&C always sought after.

Really liking these guys so far, but I think they'd look even better if you gave their black parts some more definition, some grey highlights perhaps? As they are now the black on them really disappears, which is kinda cool actually, but my points still stands.
Also, how did you get the white so smooth? Lots of thin layers?

Thanks InventionThirteen, I hope that I can come up with some more unique/engaging poses as i keep building this army up. With so few differing bitz for termies I also want to improve my conversion skills as well.

I agree wholeheartedly with the need for highlighting on the black surfaces Limbo, especially the helms. It's something that I am not too great at but I have been practicing. Once I happy with what I can do these warriors will get highlighted.
The white is a mixture of Skull White and Fortress Grey. I get the white color and the smoothness of the grey paint. When used with a wet palette painting the white is a bit of a breeze. Two coats is more than enough on smaller surfaces and larger ones only needing 3 to 4 (in regards to the termies armor). I do need to go back and re-do 2 termies that I tried painting with several thinned layers.
Thanks once again for the comments and I hope I can get some more work done soon.

I really like the posing on these. The colours however need some work. ON the white, try black lining crevices and gaps between armour plates whil on the black try and highlight very finely with a grey. some weathering and they'd look spiffing.
Its a shame to ruin brilliant poses with a paint job that is a little lacking.
Keep up the posing though. Really inventive.

Thanks for the commentImperial Monkey!
I understand what you mean with the paint job. I do need something to 'break' up the white, especially where it comes into contact with the metal. I wish I still had my fine detail gundam paint marker.
So black lining, should I go in with a fine tipped brush and chaos black on the necessary places or with badab black?
And I do want to highlight the black plates of the armor with adeptus battlegrey. Highlighting is my weakspot though :(
With only a handful of minis...I hope can make them eye-catchers.

I would say to try with a fine tipped brush and chaos black, if you struggle then revert to badab black, but only in the recesses. That will take a lot of time however, as you'll need to stop it from pooling over the models feet... As for the highlighting...practice, is all it takes. This is some of my earlier work: And after some practice good looking highlighting can be achieved fairly simply: Just experiment...and have fun ps. Having looked over your pics again, the chaos termie parts look better, as there are smaller patches of bare armour plate.

Well, I have dusted off the Sons of Malice and put them back onto my work bench. This is just an update to gauge progress on highlighting and lining to break up two colors.
-I lined the area between the metallics and white on the lower left leg with badab black. It does help break up the white on white and white on metallics. However I cannot do the same for the shoulder guards so I will need to tinker around with that more. I may just have to drybrush the inner edges of the trim to differentiate it more with the badab black on white. *if you look at the next pic, on the Corpse Guard's right shoulder, you can sort of see what i am talking about.
-In this picture I tried to highlight the raised parts of the helm to show the features better. It's a bit faint in this picture because of the shadow...should have posed that with the light more on it (I have great hindsight). I am wondering should I do more? It is semi visible but I do want to avoid the extreme highlighting look.
Hope to get some good feed back and top off these minis. One thing I love about taking pictures of minis is the fact that I can see all the parts that need touch ups so I will need to get to that ASAP as well. Then I can finalize some basing ideas.
Thanks for stopping by!

on the shoulder pad, just doing some battle damage would make it look better. DO a little line of black and then edge one side of it in a light grey. That should look better. You could then repeat this on the shoulder an across the rest of the model...

@Imperial Monkey: I do want to give battle damage a try. I definitely it will add a lot more to the minis.
As for the Sons of Malice, a new army shot:
Over the weekend I was able to get a little bit more work done.
-My LRC, the Monarch's Agony, is built with the exception of filling in gaps with green stuff. Still upset that the top bit was somewhat warped but at least I got it to work. I did however do more work on it after I took this pic. There is now a SoM popping out of the MM hatch and adding his own bolter fire to the fray. *it may change though.
-There is also a teaser of what will come soon in this pic as well
-These guys aren't the teaser.
-I decided to go back and put some more paint on Fovvus so parts on him here and there are not longer just black and his base got some color splashed on.
-The berzerker I put together from what was going to be an IW noise marine count-as. Basically, I thought about making a small CSM army with Fovvus (count-as Kharn) and two small squads of Berzerkers in which this marine will be in those numbers. I think such an army would be fun because of the risk Kharn represents and it would be nice to have a Chaos army that actually uses the Chaos Codex.
-I also want to practice gore and 'wear and tear' on the berzerker.
-The little bugger in front is my favorite though. I have no idea what it is but I have named it Short-Round.
Well that is it for updates at the moment. Still going back and forth with the painted termies to add more detail to them so that will be taking up any hobby time I have.
Hope you liked this little update.

You're giving yourself an awful lot of work by priming black. Why not prime white? Painting black over white is much easier than doing the reverse. Should avoid the lumpy, uneven sections you're getting.

Glad you like it. I think quartered schemes are by far my favorite and the Sons get top picks for me for using black and white. Novamarines and Angels Sanguine (I think) also look really cool.

I'm working with black simply because I am going with what I got...and unfortunately I have no white primer spray. It does seem to be the way to go, if i remember correctly, even the GW site painting guide/tip says to use the white spray when painting White Scars.
However, after priming with chaos black, I go over the areas I want white with fortress grey and go over it with badab black wash. Then I use my mix of skull white and fortress grey and its ace. I did have problems before with this mix because it would dry up while using it but a wet palette helped a lot. I much prefer this way than several thin layers of white (my result always come out lumpy after a few layers...look at the first two termies I painted for the Corpse Guard squad). With this I was able to come up with a non-lumpy result. *The berzerker(torso) and my kharn count-as(left shin) appear lumpy because I didn't properly file and sand away detail. I realized that after painting them up.
One day i will give the white spray a try. It really does seem to get the white paint job done quick.
