We already have a 'mobile' theme, which should automatically activate when you visit the site with your phone, but if it doesn't you can access it from the top right corner of any page (the 'switch theme' link).
This theme removes all the sigs & avatars in order to make loading pages on your phone easier.
Beyond that, if you use any RSS feed app on your phone you can choose Dakka RSS feeds (the little orange RSS symbol at the top of every forum and thread page).
If you use a RSS feed this way, it will allow you to quickly scan through and read a snippit of content from each thread before deciding whether or not you actually want to load the page to read the rest.
Beyond that, a forum doesn't really lend itself well to becoming an iphone app, so I don't know exactly what we'd do, even if Legoburner wanted to take the time and effort to make one (which not being an Apple lover, he isn't).

What about a dakka gallery app? The main reason I suggest this is to easy the picture loading process.
I recently upgraded my phone and it has a pretty good camera in it. I downloaded the photobucket app after wanting to post pics in other places and wanting an easier way to get the images from my phone to the internets.
I have found, however, that photobucket will easily fall victim to my own silliness. Case and point; if I want to reorganize my albums, all the pictures I've posted (once moved to another album) no longer appear in their previously posted places...
Whereas on my beloved Dakka, the pics stay put. I don't know how you do it, but I like it. Now if I could get my pics from my phone to your servers I would be so happy!
ps Thanks for the great forum!

That is exactly what I was thinking! I realize that it works fine from my iPhone canuck, I was just thinking an app similar to thechive for the photos would be really fun and an interesting way to share our world of nerdity. It wasn't about having problems viewing it. Sorry if my initial post was confusing, I tend to mis-speak a bit at times.

No. I understood - that would be cool, but I don't think DakkaDakka has the resources to make an App. I'm just glad they do have a mobile friendly version of the site. Some sites have a lot of problems with Safari Mobile fortunately Dakka isn't one of them.

The deal is that Legoburner does all the coding for Dakka and he doesn't particularly want to spend time learning how to program for apple app development, as the process is radically different from standard programming.
I'd love to see it too, but it just ain't going to happen. Sorry!

As a web designer, I don't see it as needing a specific app (which will be platform dependent) but actually needing a mobile web version of Dakka which will work on Android, iOS and others. I appreciate that the mobile theme strips avatars, but it's still pretty tough to read on a phone when I'm on the toilet at work.
Any movement in that direction?

Still works fine, but it's a little difficult to click those tiny little thread tools.
