It has recently come to light that a significant Imperial Psychic Control project has been underway for several decades. This highly secret project has been controlled by Ultra Marines under the command of Battle Captain Matthew the Wise, and closely supervised by the Inquisition due to the extreme nature of the project. If ultimately successful, this project could have a profound effect on the ongoing war to tame the galaxy.
Some decades back, Imperial Guard troops in a well documented encounter captured a "Brain Bug". Subsequently, little was known as to what happened to the 'prize'. Through a series of interviews with members of the project, Galactic Science Magazine has pieced together the story. Following it's capture, the Brain Bug was interviewed rigorously by astropaths skilled in mind wave interpretation. After months of intense interrogation, the Brain Bug began to respond positively. The astropaths convinced the Bug that knowledge was more readily attained through classroom settings than randomly sucking the brains out of their victims. The Bug adapted well and began taking online classes to qualify for University. Successful, the Bug went on to West Galactic Cerebral Polytechnic, becoming a respected member of the Phly Gamma Pi fraternity and graduating with honors.
The Imperium was careful to include a sub-curriculum of Political Science in the Bug's program, which would be central to the Project. The goal is to psychically control Tyranids for the benefit of Imperial forces. If the might and power of Tyranids could be controlled, it would turn a serious enemy into a valued resource. Initial experiments led to the Bug dominating the hive mind of stray Tyranid groups, eventually uniting them into a formidable battle group.
This all came to light during a recent encounter with Ork Klans of Warbosses Sam Smasha the Unruly and Klobber Noggin's Klob-O-Rama. Battle Captain Matthew's Ultra Marines received word of an Ork incursion on Splutar IV and decided this might be a good test of the project's capabilities. What follows is a report on the clash between these disparate forces.
The Ultra Marines located the Ork hoard 14 leagues southwest of Klandhalla. Deployed across a rise, the Orks posed a formidable threat.
On the Ork right were elements of the Klob-O-Rama.
On their left, Sam Smasha's Klan with a new consturct - those Orks...
The Ultra Marines escort 3 Zoenthropes onto the field - mind wave projectors of a high order.
At the center, Biovores are deployed.
To their fore, Brother Dread Ortho advances past the Urn of Battle Sister Florence's venerable remains with a flock of chittering bugs
Facing the Klob-O-Rama, an independent bug grouping with some heavy hitters.
Ultra Marines advanced to secure the priceless statue of Lord Tut-Tut-Mybad, in danger of being looted by the Ork menace.
Unfortunately, this left the Zoenthropes open to devastating fire from Sam Smasha's big gunz. The Zoenthropes were completely obliterated.
Sensing a weakness, Sam Smasha's Trukk Boyz charge.
Showing mind hive control working, the Ultra's direct a bug grouping away from Sam Smash's Trukks and toward the Klob-O-Rama.
The big bugs start a move in the same direction, flowing past the Obelisk of Darkness.
At the center, the Ultra's move to meet the Trukk attack with Tyranid support
Ork shoota fire rips into the Termaguants
But up the rise they come with one thought in mind - Ork blood.
The clash of arms is heard across the field.
The Ork numbers start to show as they beat down the Gaunts
On the Orks far right, concentrated fire from a Battlewagon, Buggies and Kanz wipe out a gaggle of Gaunts fronting the big bugs.
That left the big bugs. Bold, and ordered to get going, brave Grotz pilot their Kans up to blunt the relentless cockroaches.
Losing one of the Kans, the Grotz still hold. The Kan on the left offers a manicure.
At the center, Ultras and Tyranids work over Ork Choppa Boyz, but too little too late.
The Ork numbers proved too high a level of risk for the experimental group as the greenskins appeared to dominate the field.
Orders came down from Project Command to return to barracks, leaving the field to the Ork mobs. Preliminary evaluations by the Project Command indicate that the experiment was generally regarded as satisfactory. Further consideration will be given to the viability of utilizing Astares tactics with Tyranid units, or perhaps adapting to their proclivities. An interesting note was that the Tyranids appear to have relished the taste of raw Ork meat.
