Named after the mythical dog that was destined to always catch its prey, the Laelaps Attack Bike is a fearsome close-quarters combat vehicle. The Laelaps is made using the head of a Sentinal and a Space Marine Scout Bike. The Scout Bike is the best choice, as it is more "human" sized, compared to the standard SM Bike.

The third wheel fitted onto the leg mount of the Sentinal perfectly (I had thought that I would need the chassis of the SM Attack Bike, but no need!), and I've added the Sentinal's chainsword to give the bike a Boudica-style leg slicer.

The gunner, who sits in the sidecar has full control of the Bike's weaponry, but also operates internal sensor equipment, designed to map out enemy formations as the Bike tears through the lines, sending the intel directly to command.

Another advantage to using the Scout Bike is that the legs and arms of a Space Marine Scout easily suit the uniform of a guardsman. The only slight issue is that the Cadian torso is thinner than a SM scout, but then, who needs both hands on the handlebars!

Looks pretty good! About the only suggestion I could make would be to drill out the Bolger barrels, or at least put black dots on the ends of them.

Pretty cool, a bit bulky though. One question, why does the sidecar have a massive powerplant on the back?

@Ruckdog - thanks for the suggestion, I'll have "borrow" a drill from work next time I go in!

@Perkustin - The Laelaps is a recon/assault bike. It's designed to smash through enemy lines, gathering intel whilst it burns and destroys as much as it can, before powering away to the safety of Imperial lines. The original Laelaps had only the engine on the bike, and a 95% mortality rate led to a realisation that it was somewhat underpowered. As such, a second engine block was mounted in a convenient space behind the sidecar.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
@Falco - That is exactly what I thought. The fast attack options for the IG are somewhat limited, and I've always thought that the Sentinal looked a bit out of place in an army that for the most part is quite "traditional" in its technology. I wanted to do something that fitted in more, and a bike seemed the logical step.

Have to agree on the Chainsaw but all in all a nice job!

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

Looks really cool. Just a tip: highlights are always a good thing. However your peice looks really good as is, so you don't need it if you don't want it. Again nice job on the peice.

Serious model. Really like the colour scheme of your guard, is it a specific regiment? Off the top of my head I don't know any red/black colour schemes other than =I=.

The best thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's far too late to stop reading it.

Thanks for the comments everyone!

@TheBlueRedPanda - My regiment is the Baal 72nd. It is a specialist regiment of the Baal PDF that accompanies the Blood Angels offworld, serving as a rearguard, protecting supply lines etc. All men of the Baal PDF are rotated into the 72nd for a 24 month period, this ensures that Baal maintains a combat experienced defence force. Being from the Baal system, the 72nd models itself on the Blood Angels, and as such excels in close quarter combat - expect many flamers and "Blood, Sweat, and Cold Hard Steel"

I'm currently working on a fuller history of the 72nd, which should be finished soon(ish)

I like! Have to agree, the guard is certainly lacking in the fast attack area. I had always planned to make some rough riders to fill the role... and they they released the latest edition of the guard and totally mucked up the rough riders. I had lances, was never going to use them, CCW and rifles (carbines) and now that can't be done :( Do you plan to use the bike as sentinal or did you come up with your own rule for them?

Fantastic concept! That's a model with real character right there. I love the way the driver gets the respirator and goggles, but if you zoom in on the second picture, the guy in the sidecar who's going to get the scorched face from firing a flamer while traveling at high speed just has a helmet and looks distinctly worried!
Keep it up.
