I bought AoBR back in May and I have been painting since than. The progress has been very slow so far and I am getting lost since I made the mistake of buying more models before finishing these ones. Well anyway here are the models I painted so far. Keep in mind these are my first models ever so I still need to improve a lot. Suggestions and critics and more than welcome.

First ones to be painted were the Space Marines tactical squad:

Second were the Ork Boyz

The last addition were the Deffkoptas that I just finished painting yesterday.

Thank you for looking

Since May? Are these your first minis? I like the orks especially, you seem to have painted everything to a very neat and consistent standard, which I appreciate because at the moment I find it hard to motivate myself!

I think the marines could do with a little neatening up, and a few washes (ie. flesh wash on captain's face) wouldn't go a miss. Another thing I like is the colour scheme - it's a very original choice of colours in that orientation and I think it works really well.

Can I ask; did you buy this as an add on or as a starter set (as in, your first 40k purchase)? If the latter what army will you build up first? Either way they'll look fantastic on the table-top so keep up the good work!

Looks really cool. I like the color scheme on the marines.

Yes these are my first models ever. I had never painted any miniatures before so really the first ones.

By neatening up you mean highlights and cleaning the washes around the recesses? I never tried the flesh wash since I didn't had it when I started painting. Nonetheless there are a few differences in tone between the raised areas of the face. Although it is not very noticeable on the picture and the paint has started to come of a bit .

I bought it up as a starter set. My idea is to expand to Orks as my primary army and use the SM as my second army. I bought the Ork Battleforce and a box of lootas meanwhile but they are still sitting on my shelve. I had also made the mistake of adding some SM to my watch list on eBay which means I now have probably enough SM miniatures to build more than one army but it is clearly an unbalanced one so will need to find some special guns (meltas and combis) to hopefully make some usage of them. And in the process trying to sell some of the models I bought so just need the patient to photograph them

By the way does anyone has any good tips in how to highlight orange? I have started painting my dread but I am kind of lost in which colours to use to the highlights and event to the direction I should give to them. Should I make the colour go brighter towards the top?

Interesting scheme on those marines. And some cool weathering on the shoulderpads.

I think yellow should do well.

yellow mixed with a little orange would work better.

4/1 yellow/orange.
