Hello All,
I decided to take the plunge and pick this game up, but I am running into a problem. My FLGS carries nothing unless it is Flames of War, 40K, or Magic so supporting them is not an option in this situation.

Mu question is this (to my US friends as purchasing from another country is too expensive when you factor in conversion and shipping ): What online retails have the best stock/selection of Infinity Miniatures? I have tried FRP Games and The War Store, but they are sold out of everything I want.

I would highly recommend TheWarStore. Go up to their site and buy as many as you want of the things you are lookinf for and if they are out of stock still buy it. You won't be charged for the items they are out of stock of, but when the items come in they will charge your card and send them out immediately with no additional shipping charges.

For example I purchased 10 colors of Vallejo Game color and couldn't help but buy a damn Spektr they were out of stock of, so the paints were charges and shipped right away and as soon as the Spektr was in stock they charged me and shot it out. I do it all the time and they have never failed me

So, a LGS that does not carry Infinity. Probably you told them that you are interested, but they refused, ok.

Now you are going to purchase those prodcts through an online store... because you tried to buy them in your LGS but they don't want to make money.

Then... everybody begins to buy through the internet, the LGS die and there is no place for a battle or a tournament.

I´m sorry, I guess I´m having a bad day. I see the future really as a really dark scenario.

I think that the natural evolution of our hobby is the internet stores killing the local stores and the hobby of playing wargames goes over. Next generation of kids will just play videogames and miniatures will look even more weird.

My LGS doesn't have distributor that carries Infinity at the moment. I'm sure the owner could track down something but he's a one man operation and I don't want to harass him about something I'm (realistically) only peripherally interested in.

I'm hoping to pick up some models when I go down to Calgary this weekend. Maybe down the road I can brush up enough to demo the game at my LGS and then who knows.
It's definitely not something he could carry a full line of though. Tons of SKUs and it's not a big store.

I think my game store would carry them...if I can build a base and prove the product would sell. By the time I do that, people will have bought minis elsewhere. Kinda a catch doubley-deuce.

Game stores in my area don't take chances with product not selling. Market is too tough is what I have been told in the past when bringing up a new game that is up and coming that they do not stock.

Look, I'm all for supporting FLGS, I buy everything I can at my FLGS, but there's the clincher: Everything I can. If the store doesn't carry it and either can't or won't order it, what should he do? "Oh, gee, I guess I won't play this game I'm really interested in." Now, I only skimmed, but I didn't if he asked if the store could order it for him and I would suggest you do that, Havok. for example, my FLGS has a handful of Wargods of Aegyptus minis that have been sitting in a box for years, but I mentioned it to the owner and he said he could order Wargods minis if I want them.

Otherwise, what I would try to do, is order two basic forces from the internet and try to demo it at said FLGS in the hopes of generating interest and convincing the store to carry it, but other than that, what should he do? Only play games the FLGS carries?

Just to emphasize something mentioned above, just because your LGS doesn't actively carry a product doesn't mean they can't order it for you. There's a good chance they have a distributor who carries whichever product, they just don't think it's worth the risk to try to sell in their store at the moment.

I actually did ask if they could order it for me. The answer was yes if I could place an order over $250.00. That would make it worthwhile for them.

Your FLGS owner is a fool then. That's the price for getting a full stock of it for their store, not for special ordering. Both Alliance and E-figures carries Infinity, so he can order only what you want.

I've ordered both the PanO and Haqq starter boxes a while back, and just ordered a few more things.

Those distributors don't have the whole lines though, some of the older and more popular stuff is out of stock, but the basics are still there.

Its the same for GW orders sadly enough. If I want something that is out of stock, they put me on a waiting list and once the list grows to $150 I believe, they place the order.

Tell him to order from a distributor as part of his normal order. GW is GW, but Infinity is carried by a few other distributors.

Get in front of the LGS manager, and repeat this words: -"Get up of your fething chair and do your fething job, fatso!"

It hurts to say this, but the info I recieved is from the shop owner. If it is not a card based game like Magic or Yu-gi-oh, this is SOP.

I'm sorry, but I find this to be a very limited point of view. I think you're forgetting that a store is exactly that, a store. The ability to game at a store is a bouns, not a god given right. Gaming tables take up retail space, cost money to provide, and playing customers do not equal paying customers.

The end of the FLGS might also herald the rise of specific wargaming clubs, or home based gaming groups! Neither of which would be a bad thing.

Just because one punter comes into a store asking for (what may well be to that store owner) a rare product line, doesn't mean it's good business practice to suddenly set up an account with Corvus Belli.....think about, you're going to base an entire purchase account on the strength of ONE customer, even five customers would be risky....what if they change their mind, leave the hobby, or their financial situation changes? Suddenly you're left with stock you can't shift.

Might be worthwhile going to him with a couple of mates and saying that you intend to buy from him and you will do so fairly regularly. You could buy from the internet easily, but you want to support your local store. Also, are there no other FLGSs that carry that product in the area? If he is the sole seller then he might well pull in quite a lot of customers on the basis of it.

When I worked in an indie store I used to get the owner to bring in new lines on that basis, he might be surprised how many customers are out there, especially with a game such as Infinity which is exploding in terms of its player base at the moment.

I want to, but it is just finding enough people to play proxy games/buy up front. I have 2 games stores within a 30 minute drive. The one I already described in previous posts. The other is solely dedicated to 40K and it will be a challenge to get them to purchase the line given that my gf and I are the only players and dont have any minis yet to fully demo the game.

That's not really how ordering smaller product lines work as far as I'm aware. You're not setting up an account with Corvus Belli, you're dealing with one of their North American distributors who more than likely provides you with products from a number of different lines. No-ones suggesting that you demand that your LGS starts regularly stocking Infinity.
For instance, my LGS doesn't carry Malifaux. I asked the owner if one of his existing distributors carried them, he checked for me, told me they did and I ordered one boxed set and a blister through him with no problems.

^ This.

Very few manufacturers distribute directly to retailers, so if a retailer takes stock from a given distributor and that distributor carries Infinity, your LGS can order even a minimal quantity without trouble.

But I'd observe that, if you want your LGS to regularly stock a given product line, you need to establish the demand. The more people who play the game in your area, the more sense there is in your LGS stocking it.

Most distributors that would stock card and board games, also stock miniature games.

There are some that don't, and that store might use one, but I doubt it.

Alternatively, that store may not have an account with any distributor and how they make money is always buying direct large orders from the manufacturer or something.

Either way, if the store is already ordering stock from a distributor, then there's a very good chance that the store can easily include a few miniatures into his order for no extra cost to the store.

Completely separate from the comments above and more related to the initial question;

I'd recommend Maelstrom Games, they're a UK based company with free shipping worldwide (Except for GW products) if you spend £10 or more, which I think works out at around $16-$17 at the moment.

I live 15mins away from their bricks and mortar store but I've heard their postage to the US is still pretty damn quick.

I've ordered twice from them to Colorado, both times took damn near a month to receive.

I got my latest Infinity starter set and rulebook from Warbunka, as they were slightly cheaper than Maelstrom for the book (and Maelstrom refused to price-match) --

Good quick service -- took about 3 days (that's to the UK though), way quicker than I've ever had from Maelstrom!

Second the suggest of The Warstore, especially if you're in the USA.

Price, service and delivery!

Of course, IF your local store stocks it or will order it, that's the way to goo too, especially if they'll help support a demo night of INFINITY!

Don't worry BobbaFett, the heart of UK wargames has always been clubs and shows, not shops.
