Subject: Transporting Horde armies?

The Last Chancer Who Survived

So I'm doing a night goblin army.. the troops alone are gonna be in and around 200 goblins.. 100 are spearmen, the rest are bowmen, squig hoppers & herders and war machine crew, and characters. What would be the best way to transport them? just egg carton foam? I mostly have been using Sabol army transport trays, but plucking out enough spaces for 200 goblins sounds very unfun. Would Battlefoam be the way to go here instead? or just egg carton foam? Everything is magnetized though and for the blocks of troops I have wooden Gale Force 9 movement trays with sheet metal inside.. would it be better to pluck out one big space for each unit? This is my first real horde army, I have a few other hordes but I usually fill up my points with big stuff, this time around I'm going more troop heavy.
How do you transport your massive armies?

I find hordes are easy to transport. Just get a tray that holds 60-80 man models and stuff them in their little holes. I thinkt he larger stuff is harder to transport.

Awhile back I got sick of the GW cases and the super expensive battle foam cases, so I custom-ordered a big batch of laser cut foam trays that hold 50 models each. I sized them to fit some readily available cardboard boxes with flaps that tuck in to lock the lid down. A small box holds 200 models, a big one holds like 300 I think. All told I'd probably sell them for $25 and $35 respectively, including spray painting the boxes black and adding custom army markings.
I keep meaning to start a thread or something on here to sell the extras so I can at least break even, but I've never gotten around to it. PM me if you're interested and I can send more details.

I use a metal 2 layer tool box(it looks exactly like the one in the front, but black, there's a removable tray with a handle inside) for my all magnetized Skaven army (300+ Infantry alone). IIRC, cost me like $30-40 USD for it.

KR Cardcases or Multicase should cover your needs and are inexpensive, they're in the US now as well.
I have a couple for my Blob Guard, and it includes enough room for vehicles and dice etc. Worth a look.

K&R multicase is what I bought (the card board ones) fairly cheap at $36 per and with enough compartments to fit 200 models (potentially more as one of the foams came cut, but un sectioned)

That's probably your best bet...and you don't have to spend a lot time taking your army in and out of cases.

hmm I'll check out the KR cases. My first thought was get egg carton foam and cut it to the size of the sabol trays I already have just for the rank & file troops, and then I could use their regular trays for my giant and arachranok spider and a few big characters. I have a really big sabol bag, like with a retractable handle and wheels, I think it's called the division bag or batallion or something like that. So I have plenty of space.
I kinda like the metal toolbox idea though. I don't have every single model magnetized though, just the troops, but it's no biggie to add some more magnets for the big stuff.

Plastic boxes from retail stores like Wal*Mart and Target are super cheap and holds lots. Those type stores typically have a lot of different products, and such should have bins. I have a massive Orcs&Goblins army myself, and holding over 200 models is quite easy with plastic bins.
