I' m an old school gamer from first ed warhammer fantasy and second ed 40k. Also LOTS of war-games and boardgames. This is just a brief note to say 'thank you' to the guys on the ork tactics threads. Many great posts with intelligent advice, and balanced counter arguments. Top notch, and very helpful as I help my son to build his first ork army.
He obviously went for orks as I have thousands of points of old marines and eldar. I am trying to minimise initial spend by staring an ork army with the end goal in mind.
Give me a walker with twin star cannons on overwatch anyday, or maybe a warp spider ex arch with a displacer field. Those were the days!
Regards,
Fentum

Thank you all very much for the kind welcomes.
My son played his first game last Sunday. Just used some old school figures that we had lying around and very WYSIWYG, so no Nobz or Powerclaws. Basically the models you got with a very old base set, plus a couple of others. 400pt.
Warphead (an Ork Freebooter from early 80's doing a weird dance)
12 Boyz
12 Boyz
15 Runtz + Herd (quite a cool hobgoblin champion on a wolf witha big halberd from early 80's)
15 Runtz + Herd
5 Stormboyz
He was absolutely wasted by an Eldar army of
Farseer with Doom, and some other stuff
Wraithlord with EML and flamers
Dire Avengers + Ex Arch + Defend
But a Runtherd did manage to kill the Farseer, so a moral victory was had by da Orkz.
Regards,
Fentum
