Ok, I'm sure loads of you know about this competition being run by 'MarneusAugustaCalgar', 'TubeBKG' and 'TemplarsCrusade01'. Well I've decided that I need a kick start to get things finished or even started to a degree, so I've decided I'm going enter.

This Blog will be about the progression of the build, from planning to building to painting.... Althought at the time of writing I've already started the build, planning was very short once I knew what I was going to do.

So the plan...

The plan is to build a 'Black Templar Marshal', my new HQ. He's going to be equiped with a Power Weapon with built in Stormbolter, Storm Shield and obviously Terminator Armour. I know in terms of game play, yes Lightening Claws are better, but I felt like giving him a power weapon, I'll do a second one after this one with Claws (already know what claws I'm gonna use too).

So whats he based around?

Well... Librarian in Terminator Armor, I love the pose and the head with all the wires and such. A bit of shaving required to get rid of the Librarian iconagraphy stuff but I think he's a good base.


So the parts list...

Contemptor Dread Storm Bolter ammo hopper (I'm using the flamer on mine so this was spare)

Forgeworld Etched brass BT icons (These I'm very impressed with, seriously nice)

Forgeworld BT icons (May not use these on this, but handy for future vehicles)
Guitar strings (2 sizes 1.7mm and .5mm)

and countless bits from my bits box....

Current Progression

Shoulder pads are done... took 4 of the ornamental FW ones to make them, but I like them, might add some .5mm wire to the top of the parchment on the left shoulder.


Storm Shield is coming along. Shaved off the original skull (too small) used one of the skulls from the FW GK seals spure (love those skulls, so good) bit of brass not happy with it yet, gonna replace some of the seals with the FW GK ones I got, well at least one of them.


and I've started on firguring out how he's gonna hold a weapon twice his size... This is where the dreadknight hand comes in.

More in a day or so, gonna start working more on the right arm and power weapon once im happy with the detailed side of the shield, the handle and generator on the back will need redoing as he's gonna be holding it with a Power Fist.

Ok, quick update... Long day at work but managed to get a bit of stuff done in the last hour or 2.

The body is now stripped of icons and such that I dont want, I'll be removing his arm at some point as well.

Bit of tidying needed on the robes but I'll sort that later.

Added the wire to the to the partchment, just needs a little something at the apex, like a seal of some kind.


Spent most of the last hour on the shield, hollowing out the back ready for the new handle and field generator (no pic of this yet, sorry). I've added a few bits to the front, a couple of new seals and replaced the eagle with a brass one.

Ok, so... do I keep or lose the chain? Got the idea from the BT upgrade pack from GW, all of their weapons are chained to the hand. What do you guys think? I can tack it in place with the arm for a better idea if ya want. Other than that, the front of the shield is done (bar finall touches and GS), adding anymore I think will over power it. I love that FW skull thought... so pretty!

Tomorrow, I'm gonna start to sketch out the new handle and generator, gonna be fairly beefy considering he holds it with a power fist. For now though, I bid you Good night!!

How was the librarian in resin? I don't see any bubbles whatsoever so it looks like GW is ironing the kinks out of finecast!

Liking the super-detailing on the shield, I take it he is going to hold it in his right hand?

Morning peeps... yes I have only just surfaced the joys of Sunday!

Glad we all like the sheild, looks like the chains are staying.

@Commander Cain - I'll be totally honest with the Finecast there are a few imperfections, a couple of bubbles on the underside of the body, the staff and staff arm are pretty bad for bubbles although they are only small, it's the sheer number of them besides that a few bits of detailing were also missed cast but I wasn't too bothered as I'm not using those peices. The body itself is pretty good, a bit of mould shift towards the feet area but nothing that can't be tidied up. Overall its not a bad cast, but out of the 4 or 5 Finecast models I've had it is the worst for bubbles, I've been lucky so far it seems. As for his shield it's going on his left arm like the Assult Terminators and probably at about the same angle as his current arm. Trying to go for a '300' esque look, were the king shield bashes a charging persian, we'll see how it goes.

And how the mind boggles about how I'm gonna use HB sponsons, you'll see when I start to build up the weapon. Which reminds me, when I went into my local GW store to pick up the Librarian, asked what I was doing with it knowing I'm a BT player. It was quiet so he decided to figure out scaling of the weapons... the Polearm came out at approx 15 foot long with the Librarian himself being between 10-12 foot tall. How the imagination runs wild.

Anyway best start on the handle and generator design.

Update time, with pics!.... Plus I have a week off work!! time for some progression.... hopefully...

So what's new... Well, I've started work on the Power Weapon, I'm not 100% sold on how its coming out, but it's early days yet we'll see how it goes. The Field Generator for the shield came out a bit bigger than I thought so I've had to increase the size of the shield to compensate.

I'll let you peeps be the judges so to speak, first up the steroid addict shield. Had some room to play with after the extension so added a bit more brass and some more seals, also I feel the chains work better like that. Personally I'm about 90% happy with it atm.


And first look at the generator, not sure on this yet but its also not finished... GS takes too long to cure. The dome is built over a SM shoulder pad with parts of a vehicle radar and CSM back pack plus guitar wire. You can also see how much I've added in length, the front was built up with GS last night, so was cured by the time I got up.

C&C please, I'm not too sure on it personally.

Next up the Power weapon... very early days with very rough gap filling GS work done, but should give you the general idea.

The bolter ammo hopper will sit on the underside with ammo cables running up to the gun (this is were the HB sponsons come in).

So thats it for the moment, also I've removed the arm from the main body but I'm sure a pic is necessary for that bit. Tomorrow I either carry on with the weapon or start work on the arm and how I'm gonna beef it up considering the size of the weapon he's weilding. Do I build a harness of some description or just beef up the hydraulics, can't decide.

Interesting build so far, and quite the impressive components list! I like the shield generator (I'm glad you included the bits you used, because I would have been trying to figure it out forever! ) and the shield (though I liked MK I more than MK II).

Have you left on the librarian symbols on purpose? I thought those would have been the first to go once the de-librarian-ification started.

IMHO, the power weapon is going to look a bit too unwieldy. I think it's big circular part (is that the contempter hopper?) that puts it a bit OTT

Anyways, keep up the good work! I'm always a fan of massive conversions

Yo yo peeps! been a busy few days and not on the modelling front unfortunately. So rather than an update persay heres a little teaser. Note the chains are not present because I forgot to put them on... Sorry!





A few things have changed, had a visit from my Tyranid mate he echoed my thoughts on the weapon, which has now gone back to the drawing board. I'll try and get some sketches or something with ideas up at some point soon. On the shield front the Power generator got a bit of a rework, wasn't happy with how it turned out, same idea but doesn't come out as far also got a vent in there, gonna try for some OSL when its time to paint...(yikes but I need to try it atleast). Still need to finish the top part yet though,

Oh and my mate dropped the damn shield snapping the seal on the bottom...Grrrr!! bit of surgery work and I think it'll work.

P.S Battlefield 3 out tomorrow things might slow down a little.....

Ok so BF3 hasn't slowed this down that much... considering only me and 1 other mate has got it so far. Played through the campaign waiting for everyone else for the mulltiplayer... anyway...

On to the subject at hand, my Black Templar Marshal. I have finally started work on the weapon (mk2) after spending hours plouging through Google and Deviantart pics at weapons and gun blades and such. Apoligies for not uploading some sketches first considering I said I would.

So I've got 3 more teaser pics of vairing angles, he is complete in that both arms and both the shield and weapon are present, so gives ya an idea. Very much WIP still, he is very out of proportion beacause theres still a lot of work to do on his weapon arm.

Evening all, just a quickie today, not really done a lot.

So I've been working on the weapon today and I have to say I'm liking how this one is coming together. My only crumble was those damn wires... MY GOD!! how infuriating were they to put in!!!... then I used my brain and it's actually just one whole loop with the joint hidden in the bottom blade .




So I'm bac at work next week and the new crons are available soon, which I'm glad to see they haven't change the exisiting models considering I already have 46 warriors gathering dust. Progress will slow down somewhat, got the short straw and seem to have all the late night shifts next week... someone doesn't like me. Anyway, so far I'm quite happy with how this guy is coming together, I'm certainly doing it faster than I thought, up til now at least.

So whats left to finish...

Shield power generator and handle - Need some plasticard
Left arm doesn't need a lot doing to it thankfully just need some work on the powerfist
Shoulder pads need adjusting slightly I'm going to make the parchments slightly less gravity defying
Weapon needs finishing - Again need some plasticard tubing for the barrel extensions and then its just the power unit.
Right arm has now been altered to a better pose need to bring the arm out at more of an angle
Beefing up of the right arm hydralics, although the patchment from the shoulder will hide a lot of it, I think it still needs doing
Then theres all the cabling from weapon to hands to arms etc
I'm considering whether or not to give him a cloak, as a base for it I'd use the CSM termi lord one... I'll decide at some point
Then I need to start work on his base nothing really special, but certainly something prominent.

After that lot it's just final cleaning/touch ups before I go on to final detailing, then the rather dawnting task of painting... I just hope I can do the paint job this guy will deserve.

Ok been a while since I put up an update almost 2 weeks infact.

So what have I been doing, a lot of other things rather than this guy, although I have made some progress. I've decided that he will have a cloak so thats what I've been working on mostly, well that and I've dusting off my necrons and my Pylon.... this is not a necron thread...

SO heres a few WIP and progress pics of the cloak...


SO as I said the last post, I'm using the Chaos Termi Lord cloak as a base. After tacking it on to see what it looked like, I felt that it didn't come round far enough on his left side so (Bear in mind my GS skills are near nonexistant) I added an extension on and the jagged edges and tears just had to go. As you can see it is somewhat out of proportion.


After the extension had cured I trimmed it down so it looked more natural, which if I say so myself I was very impressed with my work. After trimming it, to give it a bit of strength I did pull it off slightly and stuck some super glue in the gap, then added a bit more GS just to smooth the joint out a bit. So it looked better but again I felt like something was missing... The stacks they had to go then I spotted my old Helbrecht model... yoink 'You'll not be needing that'. Trimmed the cloak down and pinned it in place.



The finished article speaks for itself, I'm very happy with it and now I'm slightly less scared of using GS. A little bit of cleaning up still to do might bulk out the fur at the top of cloak try and get a more fur like look to it, but it was my first attempt.

Let me know what you guys think, any tips for improving the fur look would be greatly recieved, off to work for me now... yet another late shift...
