Hi everyone, guess its customary on most message boards to introduce yourself. My name is Lars and I'm from California. Brand new to Warhammer 40k, a buddy in my platoon (I'm in the Army) was talking 40k up and was showing us pictures on his smart phone and when he showed me pictures of the Tau and their battlesuits I said "oh, that looks like a MechWarrior, I use to play that game. Maybe I'll check that website out when I get home or something," so the next day he shows up at my house with a Tau Battleforce for free as long as I promise to play with him. I wasn't even sure I wanted to play as Tau, I just thought the Crisis suit looked like a 'Mech, but looks like Tau I will play. Right now I'm painting the Devilfish, but I'm having troubles with the vomit brown paint I'm using (doing a classic Tau scept paint scheme like the ones on the cover of the Codex), the vomit brown leaves a lot of brush strokes behind even after watering the paint down to the consistency of milk.

I haven't even played a game yet but I've already put way too much money into this buying all the paints from the local Games Workshop. I also bought a couple more Crisis Suits and a box of Fire Warriors and a Skyray at my friend's recommendation, but I haven't opened those up yet because I don't want to be flooded with models to paint - my wife isn't really supportive of this hobby and can't stand when I disappear into the garage to paint "toys."

So yeah, that's my introduction, thanks for having me Dakka.

Welcome to Dakka! Yeah resist the urge to open up the new goodies. You don't want to drown in grey plastic and get bogged down in your painting. I paint a squad at a time before I open up a new one. That way it seems like I'm making a dent.

Hello and welcome! Huckleberry is right. You have find a way to stay motivated about painting. You don't want to get into the habit playing with lots unpainted models.

Sounds like my first wife. We've been divorced for 8 years. I waited a while until I found Wife V2.0, which has the "Supports Husband's Hobby" upgrade.

Welcome to Dakka.

Thanks for the welcomes guys. I actually went to my local GW tonight to get a larger brush to paint my Devilfish more evenly as well as some blazing orange to highlight lenses and the viewport of the Devilfish, and my wife bought me one of the limited edition brown 40K cases (though she made fun of me walking out of the mall carrying a giant box that said Warhammer 40,000 on it).

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka
