Thank you EA.... thanks....

I honestly don't have words for how much they have and are mutilating this franchise.

Say what?

Is this some kind of C&C tower defense/wave attack game??

What's wrong with a browser game in red alert or cnc theme?

Mind you, I also find the people who bash CnC4 because it wasn't a CnC3 clone to be equally annoying.

This game looks interesting enough.

I bash C&C4 because it just plain wasn't even fun and it looked like utter crap. The new mechanics were gimmicky tricks that did nothing good for the franchise.

Funny, I thought it was quite damn fun, but then again, I've played more than traditional RTS games. It reminded me sort of like World in Conflict, but with mobile bases. In some ways it was better than WiC, in other ways worse, but it certainly didn't shame the franchise.

I'm not really getting the hate either. Back when C&C was in its heyday tower defense games were not nearly as popular as they are now. With the advent of smart phones and tablets this type of game is now quite popular so it seems to make sense when trying to reinvigorate a franchise, especially a strategy one, to create such a game. If Westwood were still around I imagine they would do it.

Insinuating that I haven't huh?

My point is, taking that big a leap from the franchises established mechanics just didn't work for me. I can accept that some may have liked it but I just hated every second of it.

The whole new art direction didn't help either.

Hell, if I want mobile bases, I'll go back to playing Universe at War.

If you are on Gametrailers you might want to also find the trailer for C&C Generals 2. This isn't the only C&C game in development, just the tower defense game. Before going off railing at the sun and foaming at the mouth about how they are moving away from established mechanics, you might want to know this is just a supplementary game, and not the flagship title.

Aye, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for that.

Tough I'm more interested in End of Nations when it comes to new RTS games.

You like universe at war, yet you don't like CnC4? I'm not sure I can take your tastes seriously

There's nothing wrong with a game franchise doing some moderate changes to its style. Really, if they didn't, the games would become boring and stale.

Same counts for you judging from threads I've seen you post in so at least we are on equal terms

And I don't mind developers doing something new, but from the first preview of this I was already expecting it to be horrible, and behold. I was right (for me anyway).

Universe at war was nothing great, but it was a lot of fun playing with such differing factions, balance be damned

I wish the C&C FPS wasnt canned, it looked like fun

Though I cant say much about this, all I own for C&C is generals (where did I put that frigging disk?) and C&C3. So whatever I say may offend either party

It wasn't canned. Unless he means a more modern one.

It was CnC Renegade.

QFT...

If you ask me I think my disbelief at how RA3 turned out will trump any other negative feelings I have about C&C from now on...

Though generals was alright enough...

Heh. I'll play the hell out of this. It looks like fun.

I'm not sure why developers like to mess around with established franchises. If I want to play C&C I want what C&C is known for. Resources gathering and base building.

I don't want Barbies dreamhouse 2012, I want what I have been playing for the last 10+ years with some changes.

If I want something different, i'll buy something else.

I liked generals....

Then again, I don't get excited when a game says "it's like the previous game in the series, but better graphics!"

In fact, I consider that the death of the series for me. The series is stale, and therefor worthless.

Dawn of War came out and dicked all over the whole "spend half your game doing boring resource gak". C&C couldn't compete so it went all weird and oriental.
In the originals it was like you were really playing in a real-world setting with advanced technology. The latest ones are all strange and detached.
I think I played RA3 like twice before I deleted it from my HD and played Dawn of War instead.
I'll definately check out Generals 2 though, I quite liked the first one.
I can't even remember if I played C&C 4. I think I did...though that may have been 3. They both look like gakky sci-fi to me. Bah humbug, guess I'll go play some Paradox games.

It's not hate. I'm making a valid point.

People buy FIFA, CoD and HALO because they know what they are getting.

Why can't other developers get that through their heads?

They don't even enjoy a fraction of the fan base that those games have, they can't afford to alienate their fans by making something 'experimental'.

I remember spending all night laying awake thinking of how to beat the level I was on before I went to bed on Red Alert... and of the maps I would build in the editor. Absolutely loved it. And it had about 900 levels
