Hi Folks,

I played in high school during the 90's and had marines, some orks and eldar. Then work, beer and girls happened and now im sat here married, with a child on the way contemplating a return to the hobby with a mate.

We visited some friends last week and after seeing his wonderfully painted miniatures I hauled my painting box out of the shed to paint something, only to find no brushes or miniatures just a collection of paints and ink that were still in good shape surprisingly!
So a quick stroll into town later and i have more paint, brushes and a pack of 5 imperial guard cadians to paint. After I posted to friends on G+ about it one came back and said he was thinking about starting to paint again too or even play. He has an old W40k box set with marines and dark eldar that was purchased on a whim and never ever painted or assembled at the time.

So now I'm either stuck being dark eldar or buying a new army and were trying to get back into this on the cheap. I would suggest us both buying a black reach box set and splitting the armies but then that seems a waste of the old set.

Unfortunately I don't have anything ex the paints now, all the rules and figures went years ago :( I have to start from scratch and its looking pricey £14 for a plastic hero figure and £25 for 5 plastic terminators ouch!!!

I was in the same boat. I played during Rogue Trader, and then did not start playing again until last year. I really missed it too. Welcome to Dakka, make sure to look at the Painting and Modeling section.

If your playing marines there's a fella on ebay who splits battleforces and you can pick up a tactical squad for around £16 instead of £23, rhinos and scouts are cheaper from him too, don't know the name though if you just type in space marines in the search I can guarentee you'll find him in the first few pages

Welcome back to the hobby! I left for 10 years and only came back 2 years ago (Nov '09 to be exact). Things have changed a lot but it's still really fun for me. I agree completely w/ the eBay idea. eBay is my friend for sure. I play Death Guard so my standards for a model are much less precise and demanding than a Ultramarine player would have to have (cleaner models, etc) and I have picked up some very good deals.

Again, welcome back, and welcome to Dakka! Feel free to drop me a line to chat about the "old days" if you wish.

Welcome aboard. You should take some pictures of your progress, upload them to our gallery, and start a P&M blog thread. Also, DE are nothing to sneeze at. I wouldn't consider myself "stuck" with them.

Yep, Ebay is your friend. The trading section here is a good place to find a deal or two too. Offer your Eldar for trade and see where it goes.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Yeah, GW is really pushing their prices upwards, but as has been mentioned, ebay and the swap shop here are great places to get cheaper models.

If you are interested in Eldar, I have an unpainted/undercoated Eldar army that I am looking to sell (even have the codex ).

But yeah, it is a good game (I like the 5th edition rules compared to 4th), and the AoBR rulebook is pretty cheap on ebay and doesn't have loads of extra pages of fluff, just the rules (so it is easier to flick through while playing).

Welcome to Dakka!! Ebay is your friend, most of my orks and raven guard are from there. But gaming and painting are probably more enjoyable parts of the hobby than buying and building.
