Legoburner,
Can you put in place a word filter or auto-correct for Finecost, Failcast, Failcost and similar words to be corrected back to Finecast? It was funny the first 100 times, but it's gotten stale.
Thank you for listening, either way.
(Note: I believe GW has a serious Quality Control problem with finecast, but the use of the terms is almost as annoying as Ward-Hate threads)

Considering the amount of lame knights, storm chickens, etc etc there are around, seems arbitrary to decide that this one thing alone should be auto-corrected out.
I'd say let it be.

Well your first term got auto-corrected to "lame", and I apologize for my ignorance, but I have no clue what a "storm chicken" is. I'm assuming it's a Warmachine term that has to do with Cygnar?
But I think the reason for this is because almost any time a thread comes up with a GW resin miniature, there's one or twenty people talking about failcast.

That's probably because finecast sucks.
People using poor language isn't an excuse to auto-correct it out.
FYI Stormchicken=stormraven. I have no idea why but I've seen it used often enough.

Gotta start somewhere dude. Maybe if we start with finecast we can start a dakka thread revolution that results in better discussions/debates!
My personal view on Finecast is that it's not perfect I've had a 80% success rate and one mini had to be returned.
But with the excellent support you receive from GW customer services it's not a big hobby ruining problem either.

I don't think discussion of GW's casting situation should be curtailed but I tend to see the "clever" or "witty" words being usedin nerdrage rants, or to troll and not contributing in an meaningful way to the discussion. It's akin to typing in all caps or using exclamation points everywhere.
Now I don't think that sig art some people have, showcasing the problems of Finecast, should be removed or counted as "going around the filter" or watever. Just text in posts should be corrected.

Not going to happen - first off, if you see failcast/finecost/etc you can judge (and skip) the post a lot more quickly than something more reasonably written so it saves you time. Second, there is no precedent for it, and we dont want to confuse people by adding non-swear filter filters. Third, each word filtered adds overhead that I prefer to avoid unless it is totally necessary. There are already about 150 search and replaces done every time you post or edit a post, and while they are cached, it still adds up.

You add people to your ignore list because they use a word you find faintly annoying?

It wont happen either for similar reasons. The better option would be for you all to just update your signatures to add something mocking the terms failcast/finecost/etc and try to force public perception of the term change if it bothers you that much.

Actually, I think you've got a good idea here. Treat failcast and finecost and all that as actual misspellings and respond to every post pointing out the misspelling and correcting the poster.

Why would you "correct" something that is true?
Its casts that "failed". Is the issue fixed? hell no. So why so bothered? Because you don't like seeing GW called out for their mistakes?
Here is the actual solution. Make GW fix failcast so it doesn't get called failcast to start with. Blame the root of the problem, why are gw fans so backwards?

Y'know I may not use Failcast etc but I do use Space Elfs, Blue Space Marines and other semi-witty nicknames.
On a text board there aren't many ways to put in tone of voice and nicknames are one of them, so I do think they serve a useful purpose.

You heard it here first, "Trolling is okay by us!" say DakkaDakka owners.
Haha, i hate it when people put their oh so intelligent thoughts in their signatures. It tells you straight away that, that person is incapable of discussing the item on reasonable terms so has resorted to broadcasting their ideas in a way you cannot publicly respond to. Anyone who does feel the need to publicly retort would be dragged into an off topic conversation or be considered a troll themselves. If you are going to sport an opinion in your signature you should provide a link to a thread where someone who cares can give you their own thoughts on the matter you have proposed needs discussing.
