Awesome solo by Thayil at the end too - pretty much saves the day, though I do like the main riff quite a lot too, actually.

Oh cool, I was a pretty big fan of theirs back in the day. I think its pretty awesome that Chris Cornells voice hasnt lost any potency over the years, like many singers do.

I was listening to Louder than Love yesterday.

This is okay, but I liked the rougher sound of their earlier stuff.

Badmotorfinger is even better, of course.

You prefer 'Badmotorfinger'? I'm a 'Louder Than Love' man, myself. Saying that, it's a close call, as they're both great albums.

Badmotorfinger has more quality overall. It's almost all awesome. LtL has a few clunkier and comedy tracks. Uncovered is one of my favorite songs by them, though, and that's on LtL.

I dunno, I'm not a fan of 'Drawing Flies' from BMF. It's a pretty daft song. They should have gone with 'Birth Ritual' instead, I reckon. Don't get me wrong, I agree that it's the more consistent album, I just have a great deal of lingering affection for LtL.

The only limited thing I have from that era is my copy of Pearl Jam's second album on cassette- it's titled Five Against One, rather than Vs..

Alby- I fething love Drawing Flies. For me the weak point on BMF is probably Face Pollution. No argument that LtL has a lot of brilliance on it. I'm listening to I Awake as I type this and just awed, again. Both of those CDs are much better than their later stuff like Superunknown, of course.

Part of the draw of Louder Than Love for me is the rawness. It is under produced (due to lack of funds vice by choice I am sure) but is great because of it.

It's great because it's great. Some of the writing is just phenomenal, and they had a lot of raw talent, inspiration, passion, and attitude. Thayil's harder, more discordant influence was still prominent, and Cornell's poppier side hadn't come out yet the way it did later.

Yeah, I think that's what does it for me. It's just so raw and... 'Stoner'!

Tangentially, I've got a few nice grunge vinyls - I have Ultramega OK on hand-numbered red vinyl, for instance. Any takers?
