Hopefully that title got yer attention. Alright...
THEROBOTLOL
BEAVIZ81
TRONDHEIM
You people are in my, I mean our, writing group, so you can post in this thread. No one else can for any reason. If they do, I will make a rug out of them. Or a coat, depending on how hairy they are.
So, I've been informed by my informants that we are writing a story. So, first read this. I didn't, but at least one or two people on this team need to. Otherwise we'll have no clue about what to write.
WarOne wrote:The basic premise of the project is that each group gets to write about a particular civil war/rebellion going on within The Hartknell System.
The synopsis is that an Inquisitor has erected a blockage against the system. Determining that many of the citizens inhabiting the star system are falling under the sway of Chaos, he has ordered the planetary governors to decimate those he feels are too far gone into the grip of heresy.
This proves devastating, as the star system devolves into anarchy and chaos. Civil war erupts on all the planets as factions form, some of them in support of the Inquisition, others fighting for their very lives as death squads descend upon their homelands, purging millions through brimstone and fire. Even the planetary governors are divided as some take the side of rebels and lead a vicious guerrilla war against what they perceive is Imperial tyranny.
Each group gets to write a story about a civil war going on within their own planet. The 2-3 writers team up to create and fashion a story about the uprising and subsequent war. You may use pretty much anything at your disposal to create the civil war upon the planet, making it a first person perspective or perhaps a series of documents describing the events that unfold upon the planet. Maybe you take the role of a refugee or perhaps a misguided soldier fighting the war on the wrong side. It is up to the group to decide what happens and how it goes.
Through the process the group should work together, deciding who writes what and what you want to write. If you want to write 2-3 separate stories and merge them together, that is fine! All we ask is that you explain somewhere what the factions are fighting for and define each faction somewhere in the writing. It can be as blunt or as subtle as you want it. The idea being that it is a civil war you are writing about and the concept is that as a group, you write about that civil war.
As a group, editing and proofreading, offering suggestions and tips is all totally okay! The idea is to grow as a writer by tackling a challenging piece of writing.
The group can write as much as they want, but the total contribution should be at least 1,000 words per person.
To form a group, PM a contributor from the list at the start of the thread. The group can have up to three members. Once a group is formed, PM me with the group and a rough idea of what you want to work on and I'll post it under the Project header here.
If you cannot find a team member, we'll reach out to others not already in a group and work towards getting you a partner.
Me and purplefood will be working on intertwining the disparate stories together to make the various fictions read as one longer novella length work.
There is no time stamp for completion, so no worries about rushing the final result.
Any questions or comments, you are more than welcome to post or discuss here or via PM.
Now here's an excellent writing excerpt courtesy of Trondheim.
Trondheim wrote:
War never changed, except fro where and when it was fought. Now it had come to this world, the hive cities was awash with heresy and blood. Amongst this chaos stood the unyielding men of the 134th Ragnarokian regiment, they had been sent into the sector before it was put in quarantine.
They had a single goal, to wipe out anyone who had denounced their loyalties to the Emperor, and each and one of them has sworn to never give up as long as they drew breath. Commanding them was the man who symbolized everything these brave stood for. Fieldmarskal Hendric S. Loki was a man renowned for his merciless form of war, and the utter destruction of those who opposed him, be it loyalist or traitor.
They had been transported by the brave men of the Imperial Navy detachment designated to the sector. On a normal Guard transport ship one migth expect to hear the pre deployment bragging, and other less pious sounds. But aboard the massive troop carrier transporting them there was no such noise, only the sound of marching feet and men preparing in silence and prayer to the Emperor above.
On the first transports down to the war torn world beneath them was the hardened men of the sturm troops. They where given the task of landing first and securing a drop zone should the PDF decide to turn traitor, also amongst them was their gaunt and war ravaged commander Hendric S. Loki.
When they landed they where greeted by something else than blood crazed cultists or traitorous PDF soldiers.
Awaiting them was a portly man in the uniform of the PDF accompanied by several others, and what clearly was supposed to pass for a honour guard. The men awating them looked somewhat uncomfortable and looked like they had a thousand other places they rather be than meeting representatives of the Imperial Guard.
“Ah Marshal Hendric, welcome to our world. I am sorry for the state its in for the moment, you should have seen it in peacetime.” the man said and extended his hand to the gaunt Guard commander standing in front of him.
Hendric looked at the man with barley hidden disgust, here was clearly someone who overindulged in all manner of things, and no doubt had gotten his rank as a lieutenant due to his family ties.
But he did need these incompetent fools for a while thou, he reminded himself. Extending his own partial bionic hand he returned the favour.
“Thank you lieutenant. Now where is your superior, I have a good amount of things to discus with him.” the Marshal said with a hoarse voice. Behind him his command staff formed up, noticeably amongst them was the lord commissar Augustus, his sturm troop commander and his regimental advisor’s.
“Errr well the thing is my lord, that the Planetary Governor has ceased to replye to your attaemts at communications. Alongside the senior staff.”
eing how my last attemt at this was lost in the warp we try again. Feel free to edit or correct things you feel have a need of that
So, I'm thinking we write something like this:
1. The Planetary Governor of the Planet Nimbus 5 (this is only a working name, we can change it later) has been part of a Chaos Cult.
2. The Inquisitor sets up a blockade in the system Nimbus 5 is part of and orders the system to be purged.
3. In response, the Governor declares his succession from the Imperium and orders the PDF to purge the loyalist Imperials.
4. The 134th Ragnarokian regiment arrives to enforce the Inquisition's orders and dispatch the Governor.
5. All hell breaks lose.
And then everyone should write a story focusing on a specific character throughout the events. It could be the renowned Fieldmarskal Hendric S. Loki, determined to take out the heretics at all costs, or it could be Mr. John B. Bob, just some ordinary citizen struggling to survive. And then all the character's little storylines could get tied up as the situation worsens.
So, what do you guys think?

I'm thinking i'l write from the point of view of a guardsman sergeant fighting against the traitor PDF, the opponents starting out disciplined PDF and slowly becoming more chaotic and cultisty. And maybe near the end, some mutated/ possessed/ daemons.
Still though, early days.

Isn't it the Hartknell System? Which year is the setting set in? If it is around M42, then I commit quite the numbers of secondary chars to this, and have a place for my primary chars to send the military forces they draft from their own planet Ciralix Primaris, after they sell Ciralix Secondus to the AdMech, turning an agri world into a mix of mining and forge world, that's why the Commissar-Regents Zachary Carrus and Michelle Ionza does that, also the cruel Planetary Governor Pudalis will commit many auxalia from Carascus IV, a huge hive world after he on Ionza's advice off one third of his planet to deal with a Genestealer-infestation, which means further billions of people dies or are drafted. Plus I can commit the Freudakian 81st. led by Harken and Stremm then, with all the chars attached to that regiment. But if it is like the year 500M41 then only two of my chars are alive. Also I can commit the atrocities of cannoness Hatelia and the Order of the Valorous Heart, and she is fanatical even for the members of the Sisters of Battle. Once she landed on a planet, 24 days later, she and 200 of her Sisters had put a million humans to the torch. 100 of those Sisters were later slaughtered by a rogue Death Cult Assassin named Annika (which is an odd subversion of the usually cannibalistic Death Culters, in that she settled down, had family and didn't eat human flesh.) And that assassin can be a major problem for important guys on either side, as she is now totally mercenary, not caring who she is slaying. Both Annika and Hatelia survives the ordeal.

That I know already, but the major part of my fluff takes place in M42, so Empy is still attached to the Golden Throne, and the different wars are still going.
The reason for me being so adamant there, is that my main chars are a product of Inquisitor Selpid's experiences, and the fact that Yarrick didn't execute von Strab at Armageddon during the second war. So he had a vision from Empy, which basically told him to use Harken, and find a boy and a girl, they were brought up to execute Planetary Governors and such as commissars. Carrus and Ionza, becomes Selpid's rabid dogs, which he points at anything he thinks of as heretical.

I will switch from points of view from my Imperial guard sergeant Willem J. Lycus who is enbroiled in thick close-quarter fighting against renegade PDF forces. As he gets stuck further past enemy lines, the PDF become more chaotic and cultist-like in their appearance. Eventulary, sometime near the end, he will encounter Possessed/ Daemons/Mutants. He is on the nearest neighbouring planit to the one with the planetery govenor.
It will sometimes switch to my secondary character, an evesor, named Havelok Gren'del who is on a mission to assassinate the planetary govenor. He is not as ragedeathmurderkill as other evesors and retains much of his inteligence. The story withhim starts with him being delivered via drop pod to the planet's surface. Havelok, being a far greater combatant than Willem, faces more highly powered enemies throughout his push towards the Govenor. He will face a mix of Chaos PDF and Genestealer Hydrids, who are dangerously close to calling a hive fleet.

Okay, well I will give it a chance at least, as you can likely have him doing infiltration before going berzerk, due to them being designed to rip out the heart of a rebellion not just go into a town-square and going berzerk.

I can on the enemy side commit the Dark Eldar Kabel Dagoth, lead by Archon Dagoth, a depraved DE who is a master of Mandrakes and Llhamerans. They will come to pillage and raid, and be very evil and depraved, while they are hunting for Planetary Governors, commissars and Arbites to enjoy the souls of. Never mind the pure soul of a Sister of Battle. That must be such a feast for the depraved creatures.
And the Lord of Change Trans'ylliar. He will basically try to get everyone to fight everyone, even though Ionza are far better than him in the regards of getting evil to fight evil. He will also be a trickster and basically the Achilles-heel is that he often changes his mind.
The Ork Draznob the Undead can also be involved. He has been killed countless times by Harken, Carrus, Ionza and Grace in ranged or close-combat, but his gory deaths causes him to resurrect time and time again, if it's not his spores that makes sure he comes back to life when he dies. He leads a mighty Waaaagh!! and well his opponents could lead him there as he wants another go at Harken.

I know. I sort of wanted to come up with an unique ork, while only the DE, the Crons, demons and Eldar can really resurrect. Of course I'm more than willing to listen to suggestions. Though an Ork can survive even a beheading, so it can be that the three commissars and the Sister of Battle (Grace, which I must change much of due to her needing to traveling to Ophelia VII to finish her education as a Sister Hospitallier) never have done a proper job due to the mess on the battlefield. Then again Selpid might activate Carrus and Ionza, and they could possibly make their bones as Imperial heroes on a planet by beating something in close-combat (which normal humans normally shouldn't) and it's getting filmed, the Imperial line who was about to rout might come back to the fight. The only actual problem involving them, is that they tend to take the spoils of war, and govern the planet in the aftermath as Commissar-Regents, or the headmasters at the Schola Progenium if they find the Planetary Governor competent.

That is up to the group. I've made the setting ambiguous enough to allow for practically anything that does not contradict major 40k lore.
So long as it is something that will not stop another group from doing whatever they want lore-wise, everything will be fine.

Good, I look forward to develop the disaster that the Carrus-Harken relationship is. Will be cool, with them confusing extremely boring staff-meetings with boxing-matches, and outside interference unless important or Ionza equals funny and harsh punishments meted out by both Carrus and Harken, and sometimes even Ionza as well. Of course I will keep more important fluff like Dark Eldars, Orks and maybe Word Bearers as well running. Also I look forward to develop Woods and Wasnewski as competent commissars further, same with Higgins and Mack. Also the whole regiment will be awesome to develop. As for Grace, High-Inquisitor Selpid of the Ordo Malleus will send her to Ophelia VII for further training. She will change a bit. Decide where the action is happening and I can begin writing the continuation of the story. I have suggestions for names like Braxius, Amteran, Bagrab and Pratoris.

On further thought, I will also tell some parts of the story from the point of view of the planetary govenor on the Evesor's planet as he starts off all cocky, rich and care free, doing what he wants, when he wants. Throughout the story, he begins becoming more and more paranoid, his security tightening and his actions becoming more desperate.
To add more detail, the sergeant and the remains of his squad are fighting/sneaking behind the advancing enemy lines and heading for evac which takes them to an imperial guard base on the planet where the evesor plot line takes place.
tanibus Alpha (Possible name), a hive planet, will be the planet on which the Eversor plot takes place and is the living place of the world's planetarty govenor.
Sound good to you lot?

Tanibus Alpha it is for, me, I'm all for it, and willing to even change parts in my fluff for that. Hehe tomorrow The First Action will see changes as thing will indeed change for my guys. I wouldn't mind seeing your sarge's fright (if you allow) from Carrus and Ionza stopping something terrible in CC, but I of course understand if you don't want that. Or Carrus might hold off the Eversor long enough for Ionza to get the code-word. Just suggestions.
