Tough-as-Nails Ork Boy

Hi folks... I keep hearing about 'top tier lists' (consistent tournament contenders etc.) and as a noobie ork player designing a battlewagon list for competitive play I'd love to see some of these... does anyone have examples or links?
Thanks!

Well basically with Orks, there are 3 different strategies that are in the competitive scene right now: Speed Freaks (what I play ), Battlewagon Rush, and Kan Wall. For Speed Freaks, you'll need lots of trukks. I use 4 trukks and a battlewagon for my list. For a battlewagon rush, you're main objective (obviously) is to bring as many battlewagons as possible. However I have never actually seen this strategy played, so I won't pretend to be the most educated about it. The 3rd, Kan Wall, is one of the more popular lists that I've seen. It consists of footslogging Orks. As many as you can bring. You'll generally see upwards of 6 kans and maybe a Deff Dread or 2 leading the way for at least 3 squads of 30 Ork boyz, with Lootas at the back, softening up the meat. The key to all these lists is the KFF that the Big Mek can field. I really cant even explain how vital the KFF is for any ork army. For both the Speed Freaks and Battlewagon armies, all your vehicles now have a 4+ cover save...ANYWHERE (within 6" of the BIg Mek ). With the Kan wall, the Kans and Dreads get the 4+ and your boy's get a 5+. That's half your vehicles being saved, and a third of your boyz being saved. Then its time for some Krumpin!

Some times a 4+ cover for your boyz if you space your kanz and dreads right.

on the other hand Nobz they decided it was in the best interest of ork society that they "Go Green" as such they specifically modified their warbikes to not make giant smoke, dust, grit, clouds. Instead they are all about driving with clean air, one might say their bikes Gak out rainbows.

Well, there are three basic list styles the way I see it: Green Tide, Kan Wall, and mechanized. Green Tide: Max out 6 x 30 boyz w/nob upgrade, PK & BP at 1320 and fill out the rest with big gunz and lootas. Kan Wall: 2 KFF's, 9 Kanz, 0-2 Deff Dreads, and foot slogging boyz. Lootas, koptas etc. optional. Mechanized: Everyone runs at 12"+, so trukks mobs, battlewagon mobs, warbikes, etc. Speed Freek is a theme in which some go for the faster trukks and turbo-boosting bikes. I run a battlewagon rush and still consider myself a "Speed Freek" player more or less. SF and BR are both themes of mechanized, just as a Kan Wall is a variant of the Green Tide. Automatically Appended Next Post: Now, since you requested an example and are designing a battlewagon rush here are a couple things: 1) I posted a "sampler platter" battlewagon rush list a while back. I'm on my ork made phone atm so I can't link it, but search the forums for sampler platter and you should find it. 2) Start all BW rush lists with this: 85 - Big Mek w/KFF 154 - 19 boyz, nob upgrade w/PK, BP 160 - 20 boyz, nob upgrade w/PK, BP 160 - 20 boyz, nob upgrade w/PK, BP 125 - Battlewagon w/deffrolla, AP, big shoota 130 - Battlewagon w/deffrolla, AP, GR, big shoota 130 - Battlewagon w/deffrolla, AP, GR, big shoota That's your battlewagon rush structure at 944 points. Add nobz or meganobz in battlewagons for more. Add lootas, rokkit buggies, suicide koptas, and warbikes to taste....i.e. Salt and pepper as you like. Personally I normally add some warbikes and one or two small units of lootas. Warbikes are a finesse unit FYI....placement is crucial, as is choosing your assaults. Automatically Appended Next Post: I personally like rokkit buggies vs. Suicide koptas but they serve different roles, as buggies are for screening and koptas are alpha strike vs. Tanks/vehicles. FYI, at 1K I hve taken the above list, drop the other two mobs to 19, drop GR on the battlewagons, and take 5 lootas and play that. Play around with it. Some people throw in a trukk mob or two. I have on occasion.

I just tried out a 1250 pt Battlewagon list that looks something like this. Played against GK purifier list, and the Burnas were a big help.
KFF Mek
18 Boyz + PK BP Nob
18 Boyz + PK BP Nob
14 Burnas
5 Lootas
5 Lootas
Rokkit Buggy
Rokkit Buggy
Rokkit Buggy
Battlewagon (Deffrolla, Big Shoota, Kannon, RPJ)
Battlewagon (Deffrolla, Big Shoota, Kannon, RPJ)
Battlewagon (Deffrolla, Big Shoota, Kannon, RPJ)
I won because my opponent wanted to pop my middle BW (one with the KFF Mek and Burnas) and wasted a round of shooting with 2 Psyrifle dreads (Which is basically 8 Rokkit Launcher hits). The KFF stopped around half and then he could never do anything better than glance the front AV14. I positioned my Buggies and other BWs to ensure that the front armor was all he could hit, this is pretty critical.
So anyways, that wasted round of shooting allowed me to take out his Rhinos the next turn and get stuck in with the Purifiers...which are not fun to fight against. On an average assault with the 19 Boyz and Nob against 5 GK Purifiers, I lost 8-10 Boyz before my blows even struck. And that was when I was assaulting THEM. Still, having the attacks from the remaining Boyz and then the PK Nob cleaned them up after. The Burnas were nice because they could pretty much wipe out a 5-man squad in one shooting phase so they never had to deal with Cleansing Flame and higher Initiative.

Kan wall runs out of steam at higher points.
That is 2 kffs, 9 killer kans, large mobs of boyz, you can add other stuff.
Then green tide works well, except against purifiers and also you can easily get timed out of tournaments.
Trukk spam has several issues, you can win and certainly enjoy the army.
Then taking loads battlewagons just works well. It is not top tier compared to 5th edition codices but puts up a good fight. Any list that looks like a bunch of battlewagons with death rollers and kffs with some rocket buggies or koptas for antitank will do all right.
