So with the new ally rules it seems Imperial Guard ally contingent will be incredibly popular, since they are cheap, provide fire support and can work with most armies as Allies of Convenience(or even Battle Bros). Plus they give you the flexibility of getting a LOT of allies with their vehicle squadrons and platoons.

Particualry for people who dont have IG but are thinking of buying some to use as allies, what are you going to use?

I am thinking, for most armies, some support in the form of :

HQ
Primaris Psyker(offers cheap psycic powers, which is nice, even if you cant aim it at your allies for most codexes)

Elite
Psyker Battle Squad in Chimera(again, more powers is nice)

Troops
Veteran Squad with meltas(it's really only there because one troop is needed, might as well get a melta suicide squad. Perhaps I should not even try to populate the Vendetta, get a big blob with Lascannon HWTs?)

Fast Attack
Vendetta (Given how rare skyfire is, most armies could use a Vendetta to take down flyers, and ofcourse they are always great antitank, a bit more durable now too)

Heavy Support
Leiman Russ (variant will change depending on the base codex, but with the new Vehicle rules the Russ is even stronger)

Currently looking at around 600 pts for Allies, which is a little steep, but I think fair for all the extra psy powers/fire support they give you.

What do you think?
I was thinking the primaris psyker attached to the Psyker squad can get some nice cheap psykic powers, like Divination for that Russ or Vendetta. The veterans can jump in the vendetta, use the Grav Chuite insertion to drop when needed without slowing the vendetta down. Pretty much most codexes could use a Vendetta to take down enemy flyers and fire support.

The Leiman Russ obviously is great for most codexes too.

My only quip in this is that it may be a bit too costly pointwise, I would possibly drop the Chimera with the Psykers, but then the Primaris would be stuck in the Vendetta with the veterans, which seems like a real bad place to be. Space Marines can stick the psyker in one of their own squads, but for others which are Allies of Convenience(all my armies), it's a bit of an issue.

What do you think? Perhaps another HQ has more to offer? Perhaps go with a more traditional company command squad and infantry platoon with Lascannons/autocannons(I would think that would get out of hand way sooner, point wise)?

PS. I have Grey Knights, Chaos Space Marines/Deamons, and Orks. All of them kinda need some fire support, hence the IG idea.

Mmmm, seems a bit one note, and a bit of a waste of the vets, with the grav cuites they could get 1 tank out with meltas.

Good idea on the techpriest though.

I didn't think the techpriest actually FILLED the necessary foc slot.

Techpriest does fulfill the HQ requirement - it just can't be fulfill the role of the Warlord for a regular IG army.

Pysker battle squads can't use some of their abilities in vehicles now, and I don't believe they can swap their powers. Other than that though you've got good points.

I'm mainly using platoons in support of my ork army, since I've just started it and and dont have the proper model count for a full horde. IG makes an excellent ally since they can do so much with a single slot in almost every part of their codex. A single infantry platoon can get you over a hundred guardsmen, with tons of heavy and special weapons to boot. Heavy support is obvious (russes, but artillery wouldn't hurt either) and fast attack has great choices as well like vendettas and sentinels/hellhounds. In elites, you can bring marbo hwhons even beter this edition) or stormtroopers. Heck, even ogryn may be a solid choice for an army like orks.

As for me, most of my ally IG detachments contain a primaris pysker, an infantry platoon with a couple of blobs, marbo, and maybe a russ or two if i've got the points. It's a solid addition that adds firepower, bodies, and a handy wildcard, and it hasn't let me down yet.

cant take a medkit in a regular infantry squad, only the CCS and PCS. Also, you can only take 1 special weapon and 1 heavy weapon per platoon infantry squad. You can only take a flamer or GL, not both.

Other than that, you're guard contingent seems really immobile to be working with BA. Is that intended to guard a home objective or something?

Derby, UK.

i plan on taking a very small IG (traitor/Renegade) force, mostly so i can take Russes or Bassilisks in my IW army.

Right now i am working off the FW renegades list (apparently they might be doing an updated one to brign it in line with 6th Ed). And have bought the Renegade COmmand sqaud to start me off.

I'm thinking very small. Command Squad and a couple of Troops sqauds that can squat on a home objective, then deploy a Bassie behind then to lay down artillary fire up front, maybe a couple of spykers as i dont normally use them

I'm hoping to spend no more than 300-400 points in all.

I'm about to buy some renegades myself. Another advantage is when not using them as CSM ally I can throw them in as cultists

I use a Veteran squad and a CCS in Valkyries with my Grey Knights to simulate the airborne Inquisition detachment I used to use as allies for my Space Marines in Apocalypse games long ago.

Techpriest is a bit questionable for meeting the 1 HQ requirement. He "does not use up any Force Org chart selections, but are otherwise treated as separate HQ units." You are better off with a CCS anyways. Base cost is only 5 more points. More importantly you can give it 4 meltaguns or 4 PG and put it in a vendetta.

For your heavy slot I would consider a manticore, medusa(s), or hydra(s).

Primaris psykers can't get divination. If they could they'd be awesome, but since they can't they're just garbage compared to a CCS.

Also note that the psyker squad can't swap their powers for book powers, or use weaken resolve out of a Chimera. A PBS in Chimera is only good for the one blast weapon power, and even that is kind of questionable.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

for the min troops requirement, might i suggest penal troopers?

10 more points then bare bones vet squad, BUT, they outflank, have scouts, stubborn, and the special rules can be useful, 2 attacks per with rending is pretty deadly when rolled

as objective cappers they work fairly well in my allied detachment, depends on what your army needs though

Honestly; they're just not good. They're way too fragile, and not at all killy. Vets are better in every way but close combat (and both squads are laughable at it.)

In the FAQ, it states that a techpriest or ministorum priest cannot be taken as the mandatory HQ choice. Would this not include the mandatory slot of allies all the same?

Here is what I aly with my SOB and they take the role of midfield objective snatchers or just backfield squatters.

CCS w/ Bolter
Vet squad w/ Harker
Vet Squad w/ forward sentries
Leman Russ Battle tank w/ dozerblade
2 scout sentinels

~505 points includes Chenkov, making the combo more interesting as an add-on to smaller armies.

Edit: Saw the pcs upgrade.... you should list the pcs seperately in the future ... some do not know the platoon rules and listing the pcs helps us see who they are
