Professional method for using the GW measuring sticks included in the starter set Dark Vengeance

Proper use involves beating small children as they run from the whippy sticks.

I thought that was standard operating procedure, hit people with them. My little sister feared me with them when I was younger.

Well they sure aren't much good for measuring anything.

Someone used to have a sig that detailed all the proper uses of the red whippy sticks...

Something like, "Red whippy sticks are best used for whipping people, or dueling with, or occasionally pointing to indicate when someone's pants have fallen down. Not for measuring."

Do you think GW can spring for a cheap $1 tape measure next time?

You're all wrong. You stick 3 of them under your wristwatch and pretend you're Wolverine.

I've heard stories of people using 'altered' measuring sticks at tournaments. They'd put a little heat to them making them longer. The other player would assume it was just the measuring stick from the starter and that it had the proper markings and length for use.

I use mine to mark my deployment line and the midline on the table after i've measured where they should be.

The aforementioned use for chastising the other player is the other good one.

My friends and I used to come away from games with welts the length of our back.

Those whippy sticks should not be sold in a game aimed at children.

I use to cut them into premeasured distances for movement/melta/rapid fire, 6", 12", etc. I've since lost all of those older ones. Hmmmm...

I think they're infamously on the small side anyway, so this seems like a really poor way to cheat...

That would be an odd thing to assume, given that they don't.

Can you take a flame to them and let the melting plastic drip on you naked skin while praying to Chaos for better dice rolls?

I used them to chastise other players who touched my stuff without permission.

Otherwise, they got used to hold toys to tease the cat with.

Why they still include them is beyond me, I got a cheap Tape Measure in a Christmas Cracker, this acts as my Emergency backup Tapemeasure in my gaming bag.

Would it really kill Games workshop to include a cheap small Tape measure?

This on Ebay costs 25p, I am guessing direct from Manufacturer it would cost like 10p. Those bloody red stick things are useless.

I always thought you were supposed to use them in stylised duels to the death with your opponent if you got a draw.

I made whippy noises at my dog with mine then flicked bits of paper at her with them. Then I held my plant up with them.

GW can make whippy sticks in house using existing whippy stick moulds, essentially free.

Tapes would require them to spend money - not gonna happen!

I know, but they could have included it as another marketing ploy. "Look you even get one of these in the box" type approach.

But yeah you are right, GW margins are really tight, lol.

Those whippy sticks are awesome. Nothing excites a battle like stopping occasionally to fight each other with sticks.

Nothing to do with the profit margins on the thing. If they included a proper tape measure in the box, what incentive would the customer have to buy an official Citadel Tape Measure? That would be their exact logic I assume.

That being said, I got one of those GW tape measures back in the 90's and it is great. Never had issues with it. And despite being a Servo-Skull, I am not a fan of the newer ones at all.

As for whacky sticks, they serve no purpose beyond marking border edges, and whipping people.

Anyway why go that extra yard for something that most people will have (even in a non gaming house).

As my club chairman said the other week, when he plays 6th Edition 40k he tries to avoid "Bell-ends". It is useful that GW released this:-
