Hey people

I have a few mates who play 40k and one of them is becoming a problem!
Now I haven't gone toe to toe with him yet but he has finished off a space wolf army with a clean sheet!
I play orks and he is Imperial guard. Low point armies atm around 500 - 750 pts.
He uses lascannons and a basalisk but I don't have his full army list yet.
I have a trukk and a Shokk attack gun, with 30 boyz and 10 nobz plus three defcopters warboss, pain boy warggh banner ect.
Basically I need a few tips and tricks to really shove it up him, in true orky style!

P.S We are not talking about a master tactitian here, he can be fooled and tricked easy enough.

Honestly, my experience with guard has been a coin toss.

Either the IG's shooting is crazy effective and I never get into CC, resulting in a tabling.

Or he miffs all his rolls and I get into CC too fast, resulting in a tabling.

The main thing I must say is that you always want to hit multiple units in CC on the same turn, and always make sure they're close together. A unit of boyz will always slaughter that unit of IG Guardsmen, but they'll get wiped off the table next round by the vets next to em. Always tie up the units that could really screw you up in the following shooting phase.

Aside from that, it's always been a game of "How effective is Guard shooting today?"

Gpfunk's pretty much got the answer for you. You wanna get in CC as quickly as possible. Guardsmen are no match for a mob of charging orks. Ideally you'd want to get your orks in assault range by turn 2, have them locked in combat for the opponents next shooting phase and then win combat in the opponents assault phase. A unit of with a power klaw or two should hop in your truck and go for his basilisk (avoid the lascannons if possible). The rest should charge his infantry. Remember sluggas can shoot their pistols (18" range) and still charge.

In low point games, I'd say this. It's all in the dice. When guard get to higher (>1500) the shooting gets far more reliable and is cause to worry.

The advice I have: MSU with 2" between each base. Maximise the number of targets and minimise the number of hits blasts can make. I know orks aren't great at MSU, but it can cause guard problems if they have to avoid blobbing infantry, meaning they'll run very easily.

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...

You'll want to shut down his basilisk as soon as possible as its probably the only really worrying thing you'll be facing. 5" blasts knock big holes in Ork formations. A buzz-saw and-or rokkits on the deffkoptas is likely to do the trick. Can you turbo-boost those things? if you can then do so to reduce thelikelihood of the lascannons popping the Koptas. Otherwise get your stuff into his lines using the shortest possible route.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!
