Subject: Horus Heresy IF Question
|
 |
Battleship Captain
|
So I intend to make up a fully fluff-accurate Imperial Fists army for the new Horus Heresy series. Following are some questions that I am either not 100% sure on, or unclear completely. I ask that any answers be sure (no 'well they probably just X or Y, idk' stuff) and if at all possible, have sources; that would just be amazing.
-What were armor-markings like in the Heresy/Crusade? (Shoulder pads, knee pads, etc)
-What color-shifts were used to provide distinctions of rank? (Sergeant/Captain/Grunt colors?)
-What markings, if any, differentiated specialized (heavy weapon, special weapon, destroyer) squads from bolter-brothers?
-What special weapons did the Legion favor? (Melta, Graviton Gun, Flamer, Volkite???)
-Heavy weapons? (Autocannon, Multimelta, Lascannon, Rocket Launcher, Heavy Bolter???)
-Melee weapons? (Thunder Hammer, Power Sword, Power Maul, Paragon Blade, Power fist???)
-What foot-units did they use often? (Assault, Tactical, Breacher squads, Termies, Destroyer Squads, Special Weapon Squads, Heavy Weapon Squads, Scout squads, Seeker squads???)
-Did they make use of Apothecaries much???
-Bikes? Jetbikes?
-And finally, what marks of armor did they use prominently? Terminator Armor?
Thanks so much guys for all your help in clearing this stuff up for me. Once I get these questions answered, and tack it onto my additional research, I'll be able to (excitingly) get started on this awesome project.
Cheers!

Jetbikes? -And finally, what marks of armor did they use prominently? Terminator Armor? My fluff is a little rusty as far as the differences between Heresy and 40k era Space Marines, but this is what I know: - I'm not 100% on marks. I know they always had those studded shoulder pads as well as a pad with their Legion symbol on the left shoulder. - I don't think there were color markings. That was something established in the Codex Astartes. The Sergeants did used to have Roman-style head crests. - Don't think they really had any. - There wasn't really much difference between Special Weapons. They had flamers, meltas, plasmas; the works. - Same with Heavy Weapons. I don't think they had Assault Cannons, though. - Melee weapons are the same as normal. - All of the above. The unit composition was a bit different though. You might see more special weapons in a squad and such. - Yes, they did. - Both. Jetbikes were more prominent during the Heresy, though. - Marks 1-6 Power Armor. The Terminators used Cataphractii pattern Terminator armor.

Anything a lil more definite/up to date with FW's depiction of the HH, anyone?

The HH book 1 answers all these questions and more, I suggest you pick that up if you're interested.

I have it, and it does virtually nothing to answer it specific to the Imperial Fist Legion.

How would Horus Rising answer all those questions? They were in the book for literally no more than a few pages.

Oh, I thought he was referring to HH: Betrayal. Either way, I have both, and they don't help me.

He was referring to HH: Betrayal.
Unfortunately, you're going to have to wait for the specific FW book to be released that contains IF information. It'll be a long way off.

There's nothing really more specific than what Darth Bob says, not at least until they're covered in further depth by BL or FW. So yeah, that's really about as specific as it gets for the Fists atm.
Personally, I'd recommend following what's been presented under the direction of a siege specialist/defense specialist army, so flamers and meltas over plasma guns for example...

Read Crimson Fist, the short story in Shadows of Treachery. Its the latest HH short story book. Its one of the longer stories in the book and its not that bad of a read and it is only about Imperial Fists. There is actually a few good short stories, especially the last one about the Night Lords.

Just bought it. Reading it won't spoil the rest of the HH series will it? I'm just finishing book one.

No, you'll be fine. Save Prince of Crows until you've read The Primarchs and Savage Weapons (which I think is in Age of Darkness IIRC).
